Chapter 46
Authoress's POV
Alpha Zareth paced to and fro his throne room. He was frustrated at all that had been happening.
Ryker had fought with Orion and failed. He should have gone himself. The pup was no match for him.
And then, the moonstone and the girl were nowhere to be found. He needed to get the moonstone. He had plans, a greater vision ahead.
“Why hasn't the seer gotten here?” He yelled at the guard at the door. Just then, the seer walked in.
“Alpha.” The old wolf greeted.
“Look again, I need to be sure. Does the girl really have the moonstone?”
“Alpha, my visions remain the same. The girl possesses the power of the moonstone.” The seer replied.
“Well, that is true. She has shown tremendous power.” Alpha Zareth said. “Does this mean she has the power within her? The rumors have it that she can do a lot with a flick of her fingers.”
“I don't think so. As long as she has the moonstone, she can channel it's power to do whatever she wants. It takes a very powerful ritual to immerse the powers of the moonstone into a person.” The seer replied.
“Hmmm. Once we find her, I want that ritual done.” Alpha Zareth said with a smirk and the seer nodded. “Who's there?!!” He called and two guards came running in. “Resume the search for the girl. We must find her at all cost.” He ordered.
Meanwhile, Ryker in search of Twila and redemption, returned to the destroyed Vesper clan. He hoped to find clues that would lead him to Twila or the moonstone.
“Where are you girl?” He sang as he walked through the ruined houses. He searched and searched, but found nothing.
‘Was this another dead end?’ He wondered.
Just then, his eyes caught something. A part of a golden case tugging out from beneath the ground it was buried.
He rushed to it and dug it out. It was a small scroll casing. He opened it and took out the parchment within.
Ryker stared at the parchment for about a minute. It was written in a foreign language and he couldn't understand what it meant, but it looked important.
“Damnit!!” He cussed. He needed to find a way to read whatever was written there. It could be a prophecy or a secret to the power of the moonstone.
He left there, heading back to the Northern Kingdom to see if he could find out anything.
Late at night, he decided to rest and continue the next day. As he approached a clearing, he realized Thane and his warriors had camped there. Just then, another warrior rode to them.
“She's been found.” He announced. Ryker hid in a corner to listen. “The Alpha's found her and they're all in the Eastern Kingdom now. I was sent to inform you and get back up.”
“Backup?!” Thane was confused and so was Ryker where he hid.
“I don't know the details but the Eastern Kingdom needs help and the Alphas ordered for backup.” The messenger explained.
“Fine. We set out at dawn.” Thane replied. “Rest now everyone.”
Ryker was confused. The Eastern Kingdom had been destroyed years ago. No one in their right senses would attack an already ruined land as there was nothing to gain.
What help did they need then?
He shifted into his wolf form and sprinted off. He couldn't rest now if he wanted to catch up with them at the Eastern Kingdom.. if he wanted to find out what was going on.
Twila's POV
It was late at night, we were offered places to sleep in the Elder's home, but sleep was far from me.
I took a walk outside to clear my head. The sky was very dark and the air was cold. I stood at a spot and inhaled deeply.
My mind had drifted back to my clan. Seeing this Kingdom in ruins reminded me of the destruction of my clan. How Ryker and his warriors had destroyed all I ever loved. Tears burned at the back of my eyes.
I wasn't able to help my people then, but I would do everything in my power to help these people. No one deserves to go through this.
Someone hugged me from behind. I stiffened at the contact but then relaxed when I realized who it was.
“What are you doing out here alone?” Orion asked.
“I needed a minute.” I replied. I could feel his breath on my neck and my body still reacted to his touch.
“Don't worry too much, we'll do what we can for them.” He said and I nodded.
“I really don't want them to be completely wiped out like my clan.” He hugged me tighter when I said that. It was like he was in my mind and could see all I was thinking.
“I promised we'll avenge your clan, I still haven't forgotten that.” He said and I nodded. “For now, just calm down.”
“I missed you Orion.” I said.
“I missed you too. I got so scared when I heard you were kidnapped.” He said and I laughed.
“Scaredy cat.” I teased. “Let's spar.” I said, turning to face him.
“Are you serious?” He asked and I nodded. “You know you're no match for me.. even with those powers.” He bragged.
“Hmmm.. cocky as always.” I laughed. “We'll see.” And so we sparred like we used to when he was training me to get revenge on Ryker.
Azrael's POV
I watched Orion and Twila. From the moment he hugged her until they began sparring. I had seen her standing alone and wanted to approach her when Orion showed up so I stayed back.
“She was supposed to be ours, you know..” My wolf said and I sighed. We'd already been rejected. There was no forcing her into anything.
As I turned to leave, I noticed Zackfronth at the other end staring at them. He had a look on his face. Jealousy.
Did he also think that Twila was his mate?
Then, he turned and left. I felt bad for him, because I knew how he felt. Twila had made her choice, and she chose Orion.
