Chapter 155
The reaction of the studentsof Vaugnhnorths was positive. All of them expressed a willingness to fight and protect their academy. Their spirits were fired up because of their headmistress's words. Like a rising storm, they chanted in unity. Isadora felt her heart swell with pride. The courage the students displayed was more than she ever expected. She never knew that her students, the girls she had been teaching for years, those innocent girls who knew nothing of war and violence, would have so much resolve and determination to fight.
Watching them, Alexa felt her doubts and fears dispelled. No matter what happens, those girls would leave a very impactful mark on history. They tried to hide their fear well, but Alexa could see through them because when she saw them she could only see herself. Faced with something you have never gone through before, fear is an inevitable feeling. But they knew how to overcome that fear and come together as one. They chose to stand.
Despite the tense atmosphere, a smile appeared on Alex's face. She turned to Isadora and saw that she had the same expression on her face. She extended her hand to Alexa, who paused for a moment, looking at her hand. Alexa chose not to think too much of it and took her hand. Upon the contact of their hands, Alexa felt Isadora's warmth and energy be transferred to her. Alexa understood her intention. She knew that she was anxious, and she was trying to comfort her and tell her that everything would be alright.
At that moment, the atmosphere changed, suddenly cold and the winds started blowing harshly. Dark clouds started accumulating, and subtle thunder rumbled in the sky. The ground shook due to Drakoen's army's march towards Vaugnhnorths. Everyone felt it. They had arrived and were coming in fast. There was no more time to waste. They had to take action before they got surrounded.
Isadora gently let Alex's hand go and took her staff, rasing it high. The staff let out a blue flame roaring upwards. She yelled out her command.
" Get ready girls! Go to your positions! Raise the wards right away! Work together, just like you were taught!"
The girls got in formation and raised their staffs to the sky. Their collective power burst into the sky like shooting stars. The barrier formed surrounding and enveloping the whole of Vaughnorths. Once the wards were raised and secure, Alexa, Isadora and the group waited outside the barrier for the approaching enemy.
Meanwhile, Felix and the pack members got the news that Drakoen was headed for Vaughnorths. After 2 days of waiting for nothing, Felix was angry and couldn't stay put. He ordered his pack of warriors, willing to come with him, to set out for Vaughnorths as well. He couldn't miss the chance to get back his Luna. Felix had given his pack members a choice. Since Drakoen chose not to attack, the White Claw pack was safe for the time being. Their absolute safety, as well as that of the realms, would depend on Drakoen's defeat. If they didn't wish to be a part of the war, they were allowed to stay put with the rest of the pack members. Some of the young warriors opted to stay together with their families. They were willing to take the risk in order to protect the pack and their loved oned from danger. Now that it is no longer the case, there was no need for them to sacrifice their lives. They didn't want to get in anyone's way during the final showdown. Felix didn't mind because they were really young there was no need for them to risk it.
He even offered for Jake to stay behind and be with his family. He didn't want him to miss being with Crystal and their daughter. He could also entrust his son, Horace, to him and Crystal as his God parents. It would ease his tension to know that whatever happens to him or Mercedes, their son would be cared for. For Jake, that was a really tempting offer. He did for a moment contemplate on staying back in the pack, but he didn't have the heart to selfishly think about himself and his family. He remembered all the times Felix took it upon himself to make sacrifices for the sake of the pack. He never asked him to do anything but safeguard the pack while he was away. All his life he has struggled alone with no family or any emotional support. When he finally found happiness and that too got ripped away from him. He was taking too much upon himself, and he wouldn't ask for help. So this time, he didn't want Felix to make it easy for him. He was going to go with him and support him as his best friend and the Beta of the White Claw pack.
When all was clear, everyone came back from where they were hiding. The reunion of the White Claw pack members was bitter-sweet. They were glad and happy that disaster hadn't struck their pack, but things were far from over, and they still had to fight to put an end to Drakoen's threat as well as rescue their Luna. Even if he had to go alone, Felix was not going to back out of the war.
" It's not too late to stay back, Jake."
Felix said to him, hoping he would reconsider staying back. To be honest, he would feel much more confident knowing that his second in command was looking after the pack. Once they leave for Vaughnorths, the pack would be left defenseless from any enemy attack and that would be reckless. But the only threat at the moment was Drakoen, so dealing with him was essential for the moment. Without enough reinforcements, Felix just had to take the risk and believed that as long as the war was going on, the pack would not face any other enemy attack.
" If I stay back this time, I will not be deserving of my tittle as the Beta of the White Claw pack. When we fight, we should fight together. No matter what, the dangers we face and the challenges we have to go through, we should still be together through it all. I won't let you go through this by yourself. Not anymore."
Felix was touched by what he said, so he gave in. There was nothing more he could say to convince him otherwise. And he truly needed his support to get through this time. He just didn't want to burden him.
" Alright. Then let me thank you in advance for your support. I greatly appreciate it... brother."
Jake was caught off guard by what he said, but he smiled, knowing he had gained recognition from his Alpha, who considers him a brother. As his friend and brother, he could no longer abandon him to his own anymore.
