Chapter 138

Chapter 138
Mercedes successfully got Horace out of Drakoen's clutches. Once she was sure he was gone, her head hung low in exhaustion, breething slowly. She begged Drakoen to allow her to open the portal. She didn't want to take chances and allow him to be the one to send him off. With power low and weak, it was quite a challenge to create a portal, and it almost drained the life out of her. Still, there was no way she was going to trust him with that. Drakoen knew she didn't trust him, and she was right not to. If she did, she would be foolish because he was not going to let him go. For the sake of his plan, he unwillingly gave in to her demands.

" I have let you do what you want, so now it's my turn. Let's not waste time anymore."

That was it? Was the way things were going to end for her? Pathetically, without even fighting back? What a shame. The prophecy should have mentioned that she was going to lose to Drakoen, then she would have lived her life properly with her loved ones till the time it had to end. Now she was only full of regret, pain and resentment, her soul wouldn't be at peace. She had no strength left in her. She was helpless and at his mercy, but she knew, for her, he had no mercy.

Mercedes slumped over the wall, her legs giving out on her. She made no attempt to try and talk her way out of her dilemma. It's not like Drakoen was going to be kind enough to stop what he was doing. He was determined to with his plans for evil. Who was she to stop him?

She has resigned herself to her fate. The memories she held dead to her started playing in her mind. She was about to lose it all in all she wanted was to see the faces of her loved ones. Her one and only love, Felix. She missed him, it was killing her. His touch, his kisses and this soft, loving gaze when he looked upon her. She would never see it again. Mercedes felt sorry for him. It was his bad luck that he got paired with her as mates. If his fare wasn't linked to her unfortunate one, then he would have been loving a happy life with her family. Not going through all this never-ending trouble. If she had known that things would come to this, she would have spared him the trouble and rejected him. That way, his pain would have been less than the one he had to experience once she was gone. It would have been better that way.

She only hoped that for their son and his pack, he would manage to pull himself up and live in a world without her in it. He would eventually get through it and heal. After all, time heals all wounds. At least, that's what she hoped that is what would happen.

" Lost all spirit in you, huh? It's fine. That is good in a way. You don't need your spirit. You just need to be a good little puppet that obeys my commands."

Drakoen walked closer to Alexa, and she was just sitting still, making no move to resist. Her eyes looked vacant, like the life in them had been dimmed. Drakoen didn't care. If she didn't fight, it was better for him, so he did not complain.

" Any last words? After I recite the spell to take over your mind, you will no longer be yourself. Who know? I might be kind enough to relay the message to your dear ones before they die."

Mercedes didn't respond. It kind of pissed Drakoen off to be ignored like he wasn't speaking to her but he let it go. That was not important.

He clicked his tongue in annoyance.

" Fine. Have it your way. Let's get to business."

A barrier lifted up surrounding Mercedes.

Mercedes. Dark runes came from the barrier and made their way to Mercedes, crawling into her skin like bugs. The runes were tightening around her limbs like a tight rope. It was painful and unbearable. Mercedes gritted her teeth trying to fight the urge to cry out. The runes incapacitated her, and they went to her neck, strangling her. Mercedes struggled to breathe, but she couldn't do anything.

" Don't try to fight it. The more you resist, the tighter they will get. Just let it happen."

Mercedes couldn't take it anymore. The pain was like needles of fire jabbing into her skin. She screamed out in anguish, writhing on the floor as the runes penetrated every fiber of her form. She didn't do anything at first because she thought that it wouldn't be that painful, but boy was she wrong. Mercedes felt like she was in hell.

She had never been through such pain before. If it didn't stop anytime soon, she felt she would go crazy.

" P-Please! Make it stop. I'm begging you," her voice cracked.

Mercedes' body trembled as the runes seared through her body, tightening more and more. Her heart was beating faster, hitting against her ribcage as if it was going to explode. Mercedes felt herself starting to fade. It was too much to bear.

" I told you. Don't fight, he said, his voice sounding like an echo from afar as Mercedes slipped away. Her vision blurred as darkness took over. She tried her best to fight. Tried to hold on to herself, but she had no strength. Drakoen's force was too powerful. It felt like she was being pushed into the abyss, deeper and deeper, sinking away. After a while, her body slumped and she stopped moving. Her eyes had turned completely white, like she was dead.

" You are finally going to be mine. Your body, mind and will be mine to control," Drakoen said, his eyes wide with anticipation. His lips curled into a cruel smile. He was satisfied with the way things were going.

" It is done. When you wake up, there will be nothing left of the old Mercedes. You will be a new person. My person."
