Chapter 240 Sisters
Dakota's P.O.V.
"I was trying to show my dad that we're just as powerful as your families are." Marco's voice wavers, and I shake my head.
"We are not trying to beat the other families. We just want to be left alone. Ari, call Lorenzo and your dad. How did you get Jeff and Belinda to agree to this?" I ask Marco as I look at my former employees.
"I didn't get them to agree. They approached me and said it was time for you to be put in your place. I didn't go along with them at first, but they convinced me that you two were getting together, only to destroy all the other families in New York. Andre didn't want to do it. He begged me to change my mind. Please don't kill him." Marco looks at the young man on the floor.
"He's right. I could hear them talking, and Andre sounded scared, like he didn't want to be here. He did stick me with a needle, though, and told me that I could thank my sister for this." I love Khloe. She's fair and truthful, even after these people kidnapped her.
"I'll talk to him later. Belinda, why would you do this? You worked for my grandfather for years," I ask her as she glares at me.
"I worked for him, not you. He should have left me something in his will so I could retire, but he didn't leave me a dime." I slap her before she can finish.
"He left you five million dollars and a trust for Jeff. How can you say he left you nothing? You will not get another chance to drag his name in the mud or hurt my family. You and your son will return to the compound one last time. You should know better than anyone that no one fucks with my family and gets away with it." Belinda's face turns white, and she begins to cry, but tears will get her nowhere. I'm not sure about Marco and Andre yet.
"Lorenzo said he'll meet us at the compound. I didn't tell him why because I figured you would want to see his reaction," Ari says. He knows me so well.
"Let's go. Tyler, can you and Shea bring Belinda and Jeff in one of their cars? We'll take Marco and Andre with us. Call Mom and Dad." I hand Khloe my phone.
"Hi, Mom. Dakota found me while I was trying to escape. We're going to the compound to put Belinda and Jeff into the negotiation room. Okay, hang on. Dakota, she wants to talk to you." I take my phone from my sister as we get into the SUV.
"Hey, Mom," I say as I wait for her to yell at me for letting Khloe go into the negotiation room.
"Did she say Belinda and Jeff? The same Belinda and Jeff who work for you and who we have known for years?" my mom asks.
"Yes, they're the ones. They convinced Lorenzo's son, Marco, to kidnap Khloe so they could get to Ari and me. We're taking them all to the compound, and Lorenzo is meeting us there. You've met Marco. His son, Antonio, is friends with Devon," I tell her. I want to see if she's surprised. She doesn't say anything at first.
"I would have never suspected he was involved. Marco was always kind to us, and Devon loves Antonio. They have been friends since kindergarten. Marco's wife died giving birth to Antonio. I'm shocked he would do this. What are you going to do with him?" I look at Marco, and he's looking out the SUV's window. I hate to admit it, but I feel sorry for him.
"I don't know yet. We'll see what Lorenzo says when we get home. I have been giving people lots of second chances, and I'm worried one of these times I will get burnt." I look at Khloe, and she looks thoughtful.
"Go with your gut, Dakota. You have the best instincts of anyone I know, and that's what has gotten you this far. Oh, and when you take Belinda and Jeff into the negotiation room, let Khloe go with you. She deserves to get some of her own justice," my mom says. I smile at my sister.
"I was thinking the same thing. We're home now. We'll bring Khloe to you later. Love you."
"Love you too. Dakota, don't give Belinda and Jeff a second chance. When they take their last breath, tell them that's for fucking with my children." My mom disconnects the call, and I laugh. There's the Russian mob princess I knew was hiding inside of her.
"Khloe, let's get changed because we're about to get dirty." She smiles and rubs her hands together excitedly. Am I a bad influence on her, or is she like me, and is this the life she was destined for? Either way, it's time for the Kondrati sisters to negotiate.
