Chapter 57: Sick And Care

Overtime at work for three days, and the cold fall weather affected my health. I had a fever and missed work, so I sent Elma a message to let Mr. Marco know that I was sick and asked Elma to help Mr. Marco finish my work for him.

My head hurt, and my body felt crushed, so I just slept and ate a little. But as the day wore on, my headache grew, making it difficult to open my eyes. My ringing cell phone woke me up from an uneasy sleep.

"I'm at the door; open the door."

It was Rion's voice; I was grateful he came this time. I mentioned the password to the door lock of my apartment for Rion to enter by himself because I could not even open my eyes, let alone get up and walk. I felt Rion's hand on my forehead and was examining my body, but it felt very warm. I smiled as Rion's hand moved to my cheek.

"Your hand is warm and comforting," I admitted as I rested my cheek on Rion's hand that was still on my cheek.

"Oh my God, Amelia, your body is so hot," Rion said with a worried tone. I tried to peer at him from behind the evidence of my eyes, but my head was still dizzy.

"I'll take you to the hospital."

"No, there's no need; I just have a fever, probably because I'm tired from working overtime for three days," I refused. I wouldn't say I liked how much I was in the hospital; besides reminding me of my mother, I was more comfortable resting in my bed.

"You worked overtime for three days? Amelia, you're pregnant; you should pay attention to your health and the baby's. Don't be stubborn."

Rion sounded annoyed. I just smiled weakly; he was getting fussy, even more possessive.

"I'll call my doctor to come check on you. Don't forbid me to sleep here tonight," he said, which made me not want to refuse him. I needed someone to keep me company tonight. Rion left me to go to the kitchen and returned with a warm cup of lemon tea. Rion helped me to sit down and accompanied me to drink the tea.

"Have you eaten?" he asked, to which I nodded.

"I'll make some porridge; you should eat more often for the baby. The doctor will be here in fifteen minutes; I've explained your pregnancy condition."

I nodded again and tried to express my gratitude.

"Thank you. How did you know I was sick?" I wanted to know.

"I went to Miracle Law this afternoon to take you to lunch. Elma saw me, and I asked her about you; she gave me the information," Rion explained, then put his hand on my cheek again. I smiled weakly; this was very comforting.

"Is Elma unfriendly to you?"

Since Elma and Lily learned about my and Rion's relationship, Elma had been unfriendly towards Rion.

"Not really, but she's not as friendly as Lily."

"I'll be back with some porridge; just wait here."

Rion left again for the kitchen; I felt lost as his hand moved away from my cheek. I sat down and leaned against the headboard with a pillow on my back. The blanket covered my body, and I felt cold. The doctor arrived while Rion was still cooking in the kitchen. Still, he paused his activities to accompany me to see the doctor.

"You just have a fever, and the baby will be fine. I gave you some fever-reducing medicine that's safe for pregnant women. Get well soon, ma'am."

I smiled and thanked the doctor for examining me carefully and prescribing the medicine for me. Rion escorted the male doctor out of my room to the entrance. After waiting a few minutes, Rion returned with a tray of porridge and warm water. The porridge smelled delicious. The headache I was experiencing eased a little, and I could open my eyes. I stared at the delightful chicken porridge and ate it slowly.

"I wonder why you're good at cooking. You're a prince who doesn't have to have cooking skills."

I created a conversation between us so I would feel free of feeling like I was about to break down. Rion sits across from you on the edge of the bed; between us is the small table I'm using to eat at the moment.

"My mother loved to cook and help the royal kitchen staff. I, who was still a child then, loved to help her in the royal kitchen. However, my father did not approve, but my mother gave him the understanding that a prince must have some useful abilities for himself and others."

Momentarily, Rion paused as I looked at him, waiting after spooning a spoonful of porridge into my mouth.

"Cooking for my mother was one of the useful abilities for oneself and others. One way to please anyone is to cook delicious food for them."

"Is that also why you have a restaurant?" I guessed. The food at Rion's restaurant that I had eaten at was all delicious. Rion nodded.

"Unfortunately, when the restaurant was finished, my mother passed away. I planned to gift the restaurant to her. Almost all of the recipes in the restaurant are my mother's recipes that used to be served at the royal dinner table of Cardinia."

That explanation amazed me for a moment. Rion's mother was truly a talented chef of five-star and royal cuisine. I finished my porridge and felt better, especially after I took my medicine. Rion removed the long-sleeved shirt with both sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His perfectly formed muscles were visible, making me stare at his muscular, well-built body without blinking.

"You must have missed me."

Rion's words made me blink as I looked down in shame. Rion pushed the small, short-legged table I was using to eat at to the corner of my room, after which he joined me on the bed.

"Come here, I'll warm you up."

I couldn't refuse the offer. I felt so much better in Rion's arms like I was enveloped in a thick blanket of fur and warmth.

"Better?" asked Rion, to which I nodded.

"You wouldn't get this from any man but me. Perhaps the baby is comfortable with me, too."

I rolled my eyes; Rion's narcissistic nature sometimes sounded over the top.

"Don't get big-headed; I don't want my son to have a narcissistic nature like you," I admitted, making Rion chuckle.

"If it's just that I can accept it, but the others, he must have them. He's the future I hope for."

I exhaled, then asked, "Is this the only child you want?"

"Why do women always easily misunderstand men's words? You're his mother; I can't possibly not want his mother, too."

I closed my eyes briefly to savor the warmth and comfort I hadn't felt in a long time.

"I'm afraid your father, the Cardinia royal council, and your clan won't accept me and this baby."

I expressed my worries. Rejection was a painful thing for me. I was afraid of being alone, but on the other hand I couldn't rely on anyone. I was insecure and always wavering even so I tried to keep stepping alone and trying to be balanced.

"There is no reason to reject you. You can give the kingdom what it wants, and I want you again, Amelia. Despite my rejections to you, my feelings have never changed."

That confession made me falter. I unconsciously cried. I had been so lonely, but I tried to cover it up by keeping myself busy.

"Don't cry; I will no longer leave you or let you go, Amelia."

I shook my head weakly.

"Don't promise me anything; I'm afraid it will hurt me again. Let it be as it is; it's better and feels natural."

I wiped away the tears that felt cold on my cheeks. I leaned closer to Rion to remove the cold I felt from my tears. Rion kissed the top of my head and breathed in the scent of my hair.

"Can you choose me this time? Not Marco or any other guy?"

The question left me speechless. I had no idea that Rion wanted me.

"Is it because of this child?" Again, that question again.

"Even if you weren't pregnant, I would pursue you, Amelia. I can't lie to the feelings that bind me to you."

Rion's words made me think of an assumption.

Did we experience Zing? And was our bond real or was it because we were Alpha and Omega?
