Chapter 62: Combat Class
Sophia's Perspective
I went to Moonlight College's training gym to attend combat class.
Ever since the last attack by Jason, I could feel that the wolf sleeping within me was showing faint signs of awakening. That primitive and wild power was slowly filling my soul.
In the days that followed, I repeatedly recalled that moment, when it seemed like in the instant I dodged his attack, my body suddenly burst with a surge of power.
That power was fleeting, but that didn't mean it didn't exist. It was very likely lurking deep within my body, waiting for the next eruption.
I needed this power, and I craved this power.
Combat classes at Moonlight College were always separated by gender, because in the werewolf world, the physical disparity between males and females was enormous.
Female werewolves rarely became true warriors, so the combat courses offered to women were mainly for self-defense rather than learning real fighting skills.
But what I needed wasn't just self-defense, I wanted to learn how to attack. Only this way could I stimulate the sleeping wolf within me to fully awaken.
Coach Anna was a woman in her thirties. She was an excellent and rare female warrior, with a well-proportioned and solid build, and eyes as sharp as a hawk's.
When I told her I wanted to learn offensive techniques, her expression became extremely serious.
"Oh no, Sophia, that's impossible." She almost blurted out, "Do you know what you're saying?"
I looked at her pleadingly, "I need someone to help me, please, Coach Anna. I know this sounds crazy, but I have to do this."
Anna still frowned deeply, her voice low and stern: "No, you'll get hurt, or even worse, you could die. You should clearly know your situation, Sophia, you don't have a wolf inside you."
I didn't need her to remind me of this fact again. I needed to find a solution.
I looked at her seriously with a determined attitude: "So I need to fight to awaken my wolf."
My determination seemed to move her, and her eyes began to waver. Just then, a strange impulse surged in my heart, and a low growl emerged from deep in my throat as I swung my first punch at her.
Obviously, I was thrown to the ground again and again.
The first time, my back hit the training mat hard, the massive impact making my lungs contract, leaving me almost unable to breathe.
The second time, I tried to counterattack, but Anna easily neutralized it. Her arm wrapped around my waist, and a standard over-the-shoulder throw sent me into intimate contact with the ground again. This time, my shoulder sent shooting pain through me, but I immediately rolled over and got up.
The third time, the fourth time, the fifth time...
I lost count of how many times I was thrown down.
Each time I fell, I could feel that power within me trembling slightly, like a sleeping beast slowly awakening. Sweat dripped from my forehead, soaking my training clothes, but I had never felt so exhilarated.
I lay on my back on the training mat, my chest heaving violently.
"Sophia, is that you?"
I struggled to lift my head and saw Ruby standing at the gym entrance wearing tight workout clothes.
She quickly walked over and crouched down to help me up.
She pulled out a bottle of water and handed it to me, saying worriedly: "You're being reckless! I was watching from the side with my heart in my throat. If you continue like this, you will get seriously hurt!"
I took the water bottle and gave her a weak but determined smile: "This is just the beginning."
Fear flashed in Ruby's eyes, and she shook her head urgently: "No, stop now! If you're afraid of thugs attacking your apartment again, I can pay for a bodyguard for you."
Ruby was a kind and naive girl from a wealthy family. There were always men around to protect her, but she couldn't understand the longing and pain deep in my heart, couldn't understand the despair faced by a werewolf without a wolf.
Just then, a handsome man walked toward us. He naturally went to Ruby's side, put one arm around her slender waist, and planted a gentle kiss on her full lips.
I stared wide-eyed at the two of them flirting shamelessly right in front of me.
After the kiss ended, Ruby's cheeks flushed with a light pink.
Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she winked at me: "He's my new boyfriend, a baseball player."
I was a bit surprised and asked tentatively: "What about him and Logan, are you all together...?"
The shadow from last time still lingered in my mind, and I couldn't help but think of those blush-inducing things, three people...
Ruby quickly clarified, shaking her head: "Oh no, I already broke up with Logan. Get those ridiculous misunderstandings out of your head."
I was even more surprised and couldn't help but raise my voice: "When did this happen? This is so sudden."
The last time I saw Logan and Ruby, they were still inseparable, like lovers in the throes of passion.
Ruby shrugged, showing an indifferent smile: "Actually, I still quite liked Logan. He was generous, gentle and considerate, and especially great in bed. But recently when I was sleeping with Logan, he always seemed distracted, like his mind was elsewhere, so I suggested we break up."
I could feel that Ruby really admired and liked Logan, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
I tried to comfort her: "Ruby, don't be sad..."
"No, I never get sad over men. There are so many men in this world, why would I hang myself on one tree?"
Her tone sounded very relaxed, without a trace of sadness from heartbreak.
She also proved this with action: she found a new boyfriend in record time.
Her openness and confidence in handling relationships made me both envious and admiring.
In some ways, she and Olivia had very similar personalities. I was glad to have met such new friends, their presence made me feel less lonely in this challenging world.
Ruby noticed the wounds on my arms and exclaimed, quickly pulling ointment from her bag to apply to them.
Those scrapes from training looked shocking under the lights, but it didn't matter, I could endure this pain.
"Don't train so desperately anymore, Sophia." She advised me worriedly.
I shook my head firmly: "No, I'll continue training until I become a true warrior."
Just then, a frivolous voice came from the gym entrance: "Become a warrior? Sophia, you're even more naive and cute than I imagined."
