Chapter 18: Sneaking into the Office
Sophia's Perspective
One day, Sebastian came to me with a slightly embarrassed look on his face.
"Sophia, I need you to do me a favor," he said. "Fabian is working at the company today, but he forgot to bring some important documents. I was supposed to deliver them myself, but there will be important guests coming to the apartment this afternoon, and I can't get away."
My heart started pounding, this is truly a godsend!
"I can go deliver the documents for you, Mr. Sebastian." I made my voice sound calm.
He hesitated a bit, "Sophia, Ellis Group is not a place just anyone can get into, and you know Fabian's temper."
"Please trust me, I will surely complete the task." I said sincerely, "It's just delivering a document, and I guess Mr. Fabian will not make things difficult for me."
Sebastian thought for a moment and finally agreed to my request.
He handed me a sealed folder and detailed how to get to Fabian's office.
"Remember, the document must be personally delivered to Fabian, and you cannot entrust it to others." He solemnly instructed.
I nodded seriously.
Fabian's office is located on the 19th floor of Ellis Building. I guess that Alpha is out of the country, so Fabian has temporarily taken over his father's work.
After Sebastian left, I took a deep breath. My heart was pounding wildly in my chest, and my right hand uncontrollably pinched a corner of the document bag, while cold sweat broke out on my palm.
This may be my only chance to get close to the core secrets.
I changed into a relatively formal outfit, carried the pass Sebastian gave me, and entered Ellis Group openly.
I took the elevator to the nineteenth floor, with my heart pounding all the way and the sweat on my palms increasing.
A woman with short hair greeted me. She was dressed in a neat and tidy suit, and the name tag on her chest indicated that she was the secretary to the chairman.
My mind wandered for a moment. It seemed that the blond secretary from that day had already been fired.
"Hello, I'm here to deliver documents to Mr. Fabian." I presented my pass.
She politely verified my identity and then led me to the office.
"Mr. Fabian is dealing with some urgent matters. Please wait a moment." she said softly.
Through the half-open office door, I saw Fabian working on documents. He was wearing his familiar frameless glasses, and his fingers gently tapping on the desk, which meant he was thinking.
Even from a distance, I could still sense the innate aura of a superior in him.
Suddenly, I felt my throat go a bit dry, and couldn't help but look at his hands. I once watched him use these hands to elegantly cut steak, and that scene truly left a deep impression on me.
The sound of the secretary gently knocking on the door interrupted my train of thought.
"Sir, the person delivering the documents has arrived."
Fabian looked up and saw me. His eyebrows twitched imperceptibly, a very slight movement, but I still caught the surprise and faint disdain in his eyes.
Perhaps because there were others present, he did not show his strong aversion to me and maintained his cold and noble demeanor from beginning to end.
He put down the document in his hand and scrutinized me critically: "Why is it you?"
I swallowed hard and immediately explained, "Sebastian is entertaining an important guest in the apartment, so I'm here to deliver the documents to you."
His expression froze for a moment, his gaze still fixed on me, as if weighing the truth in my words.
I hadn't lied, yet his gaze made me extremely nervous, my back going rigid. Only when he shifted his gaze did I finally let out a sigh of relief.
But his next words made my heart sink to the bottom again.
"Put the things down, and you can go."
He stood up, his tall stature exuding an undeniable air of authority.
My expression went blank for a moment, and I stammered, "But I..."
He walked up to me, looking down on me in my helplessness: "Wasn't my expression clear enough?"
The overbearing aura made me can't help but lower my head and reluctantly utter the words: "I got it."
The time given to me was too short to even take a good look at this office, let alone find any clues.
And Fabian had warned me earlier - that day in his bedroom, he had warned me not to look around.
So, I could only obediently place the folder on his work desk, and then watch helplessly as he walked towards the lounge inside the office.
The secretary accompanied me downstairs and then left. I looked at the towering building, feeling a sense of desolation.
Although I was kicked out as expected, fortunately I had prepared in advance.
I walked towards the car that Sebastian had arranged to pick me up, took out the pre-prepared food from the back seat - still the steak that Fabian liked.
It's noon now. I guess Fabian just went to the lounge for a lunch break. Maybe I can take advantage of his break to do something.
With the pass, I can enter and exit Ellis Building at will.
When I reached the nineteenth floor again, I didn't see the secretary, and the reception desk was empty, which relieved me.
I tiptoed to the office door, and after confirming that Fabian was indeed in the lounge, I began to quietly observe this spacious office.
I held my breath and began to casually look around the office, trying to find a clue.
I didn't dare to rummage around too much. For one thing, it would wake up Fabian; for another, there are surveillance cameras everywhere here, and I'm highly likely to attract the attention of the security guards.
It would be terrible if I were kicked out of this building as a thief.
There are many folders on the desk, with the red words "Confidential" printed on their covers.
My heart raced, these were most likely what I was looking for.
I approached the work desk cautiously, my eyes scanning the titles of the documents. Most of them were routine business contracts and financial reports, but among them, there was a folder labeled "Personnel Changes - Confidential File".
My breathing quickened. My father was accused of leaking confidential documents, and perhaps the clues were in these files.
I reached out my hand, just about to touch that folder...
The next second, I heard a low growl from behind: "Who gave you permission to stay here?!"
