Chapter 44
"We still don't know when the patient will regain consciousness. The operation on his heart was complicated but I don't see any problems yet. His body is weaker than I thought. Let's just hope that he will regain consciousness one of these days."
The doctor checked Papa's chart one last time before returning it to the foot of the bed.
Almost throughout our conversation, I was biting my lower lip and trying to hold back my emotions.
The doctor turned to me again. "If you'll excuse me." he said. I just nodded.
When the door finally closed, I weakly sat down on the sofa inside the room. I felt my senses while closing my eyes tightly.
Papa wasn't like this back then. He is strong and has no vices. He only learned to drink when he and Emily were together. maybe that was the reason why he had heart disease.
Markus stood up from Papa's side and took some papers from his pocket. He let out a deep breath and walked towards me.
when he sat next to me he sadly handed over the papers. "A while ago, there was a new prescription medicine, sister. I haven't bought it yet. Sir Levi isn't here yet."
I frowned at what I heard. I looked at Markus in wonder then took the prescriptions from his hand.
the drugs listed are depressants. Just by the dosage you know a thousand times
one will cost.
"Did Emily give the allowance?" I'm sorry.
Markus sighed again and shook his head sadly. "That hasn't helped even five. everything he depends on Sir Levi. I'm the one who's ashamed because he's answering my food. Then since Papa was confined, he only visited once. Papa is not her husband. It's annoying."
I pulled out my hair because of what I found out. I don't want to be angry with Emily but she is overdoing it. When Papa needed him, he never showed up.
I took a deep breath and folded my arms on both of my knees. I tried to control myself even though I wanted to get angry.
"Layco gave a large sum of money to Emily to provide for Papa's needs. Where did he get the money?" There is a hint of annoyance in my voice.
Markus shrugged. "I don't want to tell Papa but there is talk in Bersant that Emily is bringing another man home to our house."
My ears seemed to tingle when I heard it. I want to hurt with so much annoyance. I have never felt so angry. Layco is right. Emily doesn't deserve my respect. She doesn't deserve to live in my parent's house.
I leaned against the backrest of the sofa and closed my eyes tightly. I can feel the corner of my eye stinging because of so much anger.
Soon the door opened. I opened my eyes
I saw Layco enter. In his hand was a plastic with only stewed food.
I frowned and stood up and approached him. "It's ten o'clock, why did you come here?" I asked curiously.
He cleared his throat. "I uh, I thought you might need something." he held up the plastic and showed it to me. "Here. I brought some food."
I smiled sparingly and accepted the plastic. "You're still bothering, you already freed Markus and me from dinner earlier." I then handed the plastic to Markus.
He immediately took it and placed it on the table to open it. The smell of grilled chicken filled the room. Markus turned his gaze to Layco. There was a sweet smile on his lips as he gave a thumbs up. "You're the best, brother."
I glared at Markus. he immediately bent down and took a piece of chicken to eat.
Later I felt Layco taking the prescriptions I had. He looked at each of them with a frown. "Your father needs these meds, Savanah. These are the most important drugs for patients who have undergone surgery." He suddenly took my hand. "Let's go. We need to buy these."
I couldn't move as he dragged me out of the room. when we were in the hallway, I couldn't help but notice especially when some nurses looked at Layco and then smiled, but when they looked at our hands, they immediately frowned.
I feel like I'm being grilled because of the heat on my face. my chest is like a racing horse.
I always feel this way whenever he is around.
When we arrived at the pharmacy, Layco immediately handed over the prescriptions. Later the pharmacist showed him something about the medicine.
I was stunned when he started saying some medical terms. Even the pharmacist was shocked and couldn't believe that Layco knew so much about that matter.
After he paid for the medicine and got it, he turned to me again. he frowned slightly when he noticed that I was just staring at him and still couldn't believe it.
A smile appeared on his lips at the same time as he raised one eyebrow. "Are you trying to melt me, Savanah?"
It was like cold water was poured on me because of what I heard. my cheeks automatically blushed. I immediately looked away. "N-no a-ah."
He chuckled softly then stepped closer to me. My chest lost even more when he suddenly messed with my hair. When I raised my face, I met his sweet smile.
it's nice to look at. I hope you always smile.
Soon a female nurse stopped by our side and looked at Layco intently as if she recognized him.
"Layco? Layco Magnison?" frowned when the woman asked. His complexion is white and his face is full of make-up.
