Chapter 18: What If We Fuck
Dawn’s Point of View
Goosebumps prickled on the exposed part of my skin; it was probably from the cold evening air as I hiked across the lonely street, heading for the bus stop.
I stopped working at my previous job because Dorothy and her gang found me out. I decided to find another job, one that is far away from the previous location, and now, thanks to Dorothy and her horde of plastic-looking girls, I got fired.
My hands went into my hair, pulling it back in frustration.
And not just that, I’m owing Jasper Royals a hundred thousand dollars' worth of favor; he paid a hundred thousand to get Mr. Wright out of my hair.
I bit down on my lips, trying to analyze the situation.
Jasper has a clear motive; he wants to play a friendly game with my team, but doing that might equal selling out both their best points and worst points to the enemy. However, if we are strategic enough, we can use this to our advantage.
Just as I was doing my brainstorm, a fast-moving car sped past me, the zooming sound startled me, and a squeal escaped me.
“Fucking asshole,” I grumbled under my breath.
As if he heard me, the car stopped, and then reversed with the same speed, my heart locked in my chest, wondering why the car came back—I didn’t even curse that loud.
But as the car reached towards me, my eyes widened in recognition, getting beside me, the windows wound down, and my eyes met with the eccentric blue eyes that belonged to the devil himself.
Logan Ashton… my darling, sweet, and hot stepbrother.
How ironic.
Was this going to be the cherry on top of the cake of my misfortune?
“Get in.” He commanded, and I felt the organ responsible for pumping blood in my body stop, because my blood turned ice.
Hell no… There is no fucking way I’m getting in the same car with Logan, after all the threats? I’m not going to make it easy for him to kill me.
“Thanks for your generous offer, but I would rather walk,” I told him sternly, and then proceeded to walk off. He followed me with his car, somehow matching my pace, compared to the speed at which he was going earlier.
The street was quite lonely, so anything could happen, and I knew Logan very well; in fact, I knew him too well, even before he became my stepbrother.
He didn’t have a lot of patience.
“If I wanted to kill you, I would have run you over by now.” He reminded me, then thought to point it out. “You’re not faster than my car.”
“Thanks for letting me live then,” I muttered.
“Dawn, get in the fucking car.” His voice a little more oppressive than the last time. “I won’t repeat myself.”
I ignored him, as I continued walking, hoping by the time I rounded the corner to the next street, there would be people—people who could help me when things went wrong.
“Fucking arrogant bitch.” I heard him mutter under his breath, and my eyes quickly flickered towards him when I noticed the car had stopped moving.
Logan yanked the car door open, and before I could blink, he was already halfway out of the car, one of his legs on the floor.
I bolted for it, as fast as I could, but in a split second, I felt Logan’s firm hand grab my arms, and he pulled me backward, my back slammed hard against his chest, and his scent filled my nose.
Like mulberry, mixed with something earthy.
“Ah! No!” I screamed when he suddenly yanked me up like I weighed nothing, and in that moment, I felt my feet leave the ground, and I was being thrown over his wide, muscular shoulders. “Please… no!”
He flexed his back muscles as he carried me back towards the car.
“Help me!” I screamed into the darkness, but my own voice echoed back to me, and apart from that, the only thing I could hear was the sound of crickets, and his engine—so I decided to scream even harder. “Someone, please, help me!”
“Shut the fuck up.” He grumbled under his breath as he reached the passenger’s seat of his car. He placed me on the ground, roughly grabbing my shoulder.
I quickly slammed my closed fist against his chest, trying to get out of his embrace, but it did nothing to him.
Who the hell am I kidding?
Logan was a big guy, even though he was only 19.
He is an athlete… not just any type of athlete, he is a hockey player, a very talented one at that, he trains everything, he goes to the gym, does a lot of lifting, and he is quick on his feet too.
How was I supposed to ever outrun a person like that? Or even fight him? So, I just stopped, but that was only because I had already tired myself out.
“Sit.” He ordered, and hesitantly, I got into the passenger’s seat, my chest heaving heavily; meanwhile, he didn’t even look bothered. I heard him chuckle at my sudden obedience. “Now was that so hard?”
I said nothing, he slammed the door shut, and then walked over to the driver’s side. He got in and then continued driving.
“You must feel so guilty for suspending me, you’re even refusing my help.”
“Help?” I repeated. “Sounds like a joke. Don’t you think it’s a bit hypocritical to want to ruin me in the presence of everybody and while we’re alone, you want to help me?”
Annoyed that Dorothy and her friends were probably acting on his order when they came to my place of work. Because tell me why the hell he is in the vicinity, he planned this bullshit, but he avoids the spotlight because of his reputation.
An A-list hockey star is accused of bullying.
That would ruin his career.
“You’re my stepsister.” The words sounded like poison as they rolled off his tongue. “I should be considerate of you sometimes.”
“We are not stepsiblings.”
“Yet.” He corrected. “We will be in a few weeks.”
He was right.
“But you know, I was thinking we can do something about it if we worked together as a team.” My hateful gaze finally flickered towards him, and the breath was caught in my throat at how undeniably attractive he was as he handled the steering wheel effortlessly.
I would rather die than work with him on anything, but if it keeps me the fuck away from him in the future, then be my guest to try.
Then this motherfucker opens his mouth to say the most bizarre thing ever.
“What do you think would happen if our parents woke up to us fucking in the house?”
