Chapter 79 He's Not Lying After All

Chapter 79 He's Not Lying After All
Quinn's POV
Grayson grabbed my hand. "Quinn, I misunderstood. I'm sorry."
I sighed heavily. "All you can think about is sex and sex."
"No, that's not it, really. The situation was so ambiguous, and your answer matched my question."
"Oh, so you mean you misunderstood because of my answer?"
Now it was Grayson's turn to run his fingers through his hair. "No. You're not wrong. I'm the one who's wrong, that's why I apologise."
I shrugged and turned away. Grayson approached me and held my shoulders.
"I misunderstood because of my own mistake. I thought you were inviting me to my room because there was something you wanted and it had to do with... something intimate."
Actually, when I think about it, I was a bit wrong because after saying I was gonna change clothes, I invited Grayson to his room. But it depends on our way of thinking, right? If our minds are pure, then we think of positive possibilities. Unless his thoughts were already dirty from the start, then it would be like that, thinking it was an invitation for sex.
"I invited you here to warn you not to cross your boundaries, Grayson. I don't want Kelly to think that we have a romantic relationship because of you."
Grayson exhaled sharply. “I wouldn’t stop you if it were your female friend, not Kelly.”
“Why if it’s Kelly? Are you afraid your secret will be exposed?”
“Quinn, I don’t have any secrets with Kelly. I’ve told you everything, including the fact that Kelly isn’t my fated mate. But you don’t believe me. I'm also confused about how to make you believe me. I'm also worried that Kelly might be lying, but you believe her."
I shook my head in disbelief. "I'm not a child, Grayson. I can tell the difference between right and wrong."
"But you won't be able to tell the difference between right and wrong if it comes out of Kelly's mouth."
"Then I'll find the truth through her eyes. Eyes can't lie, Grayson. Our eyes are very honest. They say things that can't be said with words."
Suddenly Grayson brought both my hands to his face. "If that's the case, then read my eyes. I want you to decide whether I'm lying or not when I say I like you."
I immediately pulled my hands away. Before it went too far, before I got caught up in the words I was saying.
“Why, Quinn? Can’t you see the truth? Don’t you believe that I really like you?”
“Enough, Grayson,” I said a little harshly. “Kelly is waiting for me. And you need to pack for the trip out of city. It's better for you to win the game than to try to win my heart."
"I can do both," he said stubbornly.
I shook my head and smiled wryly. "Don't forget our contract is over. You also said I could pay it off by staying here for 26 days. So now I'm not paying that debt with my body or my feelings. I hope you always remember that, Grayson."
"Of course. And I hope that after this, you won't avoid that fact anymore, Quinn. I hope you'll be honest with yourself about how you feel and allow yourself to accept love from someone else again."
I turned a deaf ear and immediately left Grayson's room with mixed feelings.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you that we’re going to the park, not some fancy place,” Kelly said after handing me an ice cream.
I looked at my clothes and then at hers. We were definitely dressed wrong. We were wearing clothes that looked like we were going to a party. But it was okay, I realised that I was wrong for not asking where she was taking me and just assuming.
"I always dress like this. Grayson says I'm too neat, like I'm going to a meeting every day. But that's always been my style. Besides, I'm obsessed with neatness. So I hope you understand."
I really didn't expect Kelly to talk so openly and willingly tell me about herself without me asking. She seemed like the easy-going type who was easy to get along with.
If she’s so perfect, I’m confused as to why Grayson left her.
“Can I hear what you wanna talk to me about now, Kelly?”
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot because you're so interesting to talk to."
"You too," I replied honestly.
Kelly then leaned her body slightly toward me. "First of all, I want to apologize. You can scold me like Grayson did because I was wrong. I admit it."
She ate her ice cream for a moment and then looked straight ahead. "Second, I want to clear up the misunderstanding. Honestly, I was too embarrassed to admit it. But it's true that I was actually engaged to another man. I came back to this city because I wanted to try my luck."
"Well, as you know, I had a fight with my fiancé. I felt like he didn't love me. And I felt a little regretful for leaving Grayson, who used to love me so much. I thought he still did, so I met him again and tried to reciprocate his feelings. But it turned out that everything had changed. Grayson's feelings for me were gone. Now, all that was left was hatred."
“It was my fault back then for leaving him without saying goodbye. I had to leave Grayson’s life because my parents didn’t approve of us being together. Rather than have them do something to Grayson, who was already suffering after losing his twin brother, I gave in. I left this city so my parents wouldn’t bother Grayson.”
I wanted to ask a question, but then I closed my mouth tightly.
"You might be wondering why I was afraid even though Grayson's parents were also very influential. The answer is because my parents were really cruel, even crueler than Grayson's parents. They used to control the media, which was also the reason I was able to become an intern at Frost Maple at that time."
"You know how the media can greatly influence an athlete's career, right?"
"Yes, I understand," I replied.
"Therefore, rather than letting all the secrets that Grayson and his family had hidden from the public be exposed, I decided to make the sacrifice. At that time, I still thought I could come back someday when I was able to stand on my own two feet. But as time went by, I fell in love with another man, forgot about Grayson, completely forgot. Then that argument happened and at the same time the news about Grayson came out. I became very curious and wanted to make up for my mistake to Grayson. But it turned out that I was slapped by the reality that the past should be left in the past, no need to dig it up again."
Kelly took a deep breath. "The point is, Grayson wasn't interested in me at all and had no intention of playing with you. Just so you know, he was like a madman when he was looking for you at the hospital that time. He's never been like that with other women. It was strange and funny at the same time to see him injured but looking for you. Unfortunately, the media sensationalized the news."
I chuckled. “It seems like Grayson is right. Now I’m not sure who to believe.”
Kelly gently rubbed my shoulder. “Trust Grayson’s love and trust my explanation.”
