Chapter 56 Swallowing My Own Words

Chapter 56 Swallowing My Own Words

Quinn's POV

"Want to stop for some food first?"

I shook my head quickly to decline Owen's offer. Because I was focused on the article I was reading on my phone. Where it was reporting on a traffic accident involving the famous ice hockey star, Grayson and another driver.

I knew I shouldn't care about the news because now I was nothing to Grayson either. Our contract had also been terminated so I shouldn't have to worry about anything happening to him. But when I read the article to the end where it turned out that the accident was not caused by Grayson's fault, I was relieved.

"Why are you sighing? You feel uncomfortable?"

"Huh?" I flipped my phone and rounded my eyes when I realized that I was still in the car with Owen.

I ended up here because I accidentally ran into him while running away from Grayson. Owen saw me and got out of his car. He didn't ask anything at first and immediately helped me hide in his car and then he took me away from there before Grayson caught up.

When we’re far away, Owen started asking me what happened and who I was running from. I explained that Grayson refused my request to break the contract. I told Owen after thinking hard and I figured he had a right to know since he helped create the document.

I didn't ask for Owen's help at all. I even told him to drop me off at the nearest bus stop so I could go to the hospital where Dylan was being treated and then pack my things at the flat.

But Owen wouldn't drop me off. He said he wouldn't leave me alone in my confused mind. He also said he more or less knew Grayson's attitude based on his father's story that Grayson was very stubborn. And Owen said if I went back to my two destinations, Grayson would definitely find me.

So without my consent, Owen called his confidant, asking that person to take care of everything including the discharged Dylan from the hospital and setting up a new place for me to live.

Of course I refused but Owen didn't listen to me. I even threatened to scream if he didn't stop the car, but then Owen said something that made me think hard: If you want to leave Grayson's life, then don't do it halfway. You must erase all your traces otherwise he'll still find you.

And that's what made me finally agree to Owen's offer. Even though he was a jerk, what he said was true. Grayson would probably find me again if I was still around his neighborhood. So what I should do is withdraw completely.

I know I swallowed my own words for accepting help from the man who ditched me a year ago. But I didn't just accept Owen's help, I was also going to pay him back with my salary.

So since I said I didn't want to accept favors for free, Owen offered me a job as his personal assistant and also the caretaker of his house that I would be living in with Dylan after this. The salary I earned from the job was given half to him to pay off the debt and some of it was put into my savings.

I wasn't planning to stay in Owen's house forever even if it was unoccupied. Apart from not wanting to be indebted too much, being dependent on someone traumatized me.

Owen sighed just like I did earlier. "Well you were like that."

"I'm just too tired," I replied in the end.

"We'll be there in a minute," he replies. He turned the car right into a gate that had a private property sign in his name on the side.

"Are you sure Grayson won't be here?" I asked once more just to be sure.

Owen gave me a quick glance. "No, he won't. Even if he knew you were here, he must get my permission to enter this place. Without my permission, it's impossible," he replied confidently.

I believed Owen because he must know the law better than me or Grayson. But there was still something I wanted to clarify, about Dylan. "Then what about Dylan's treatment? If he stays here, how will he be treated?"

Owen turned the wheel to the left and we entered the yard of a mansion. Which made me look around. "You said house, but this is not a normal house," I protested.

"This is the only property of mine that hasn't been touched by the media. I just bought it so I think it's safer for you to live in than my current apartment."

"So about Dylan?"

Owen looked at me after stopping the car. "The doctor will come every day to check on him. Once a month he'll do a full checkup at the hospital. Of course not to the old hospital, but to the new hospital so Grayson won't be able to see Dylan anymore."

Owen really had it all planned out. It was like he could read the future so he knew that today I would be gone from Grayson's life. Because Owen was really prepared with all the plans. He's a quick thinker and a quick decision maker, but with what's going on right now, it feels like Owen has gone to the future and back in time to tell me.

"Alright, now you can go inside. As for your duties as my personal assistant, I'll tell you when you've calmed down. Take your time and just talk with Dylan. I'll be back in a few days."

"You're not coming in?"

"I can't Quinn. Grayson is probably looking for me right now. If I'm gone too long, he'll probably go to my apartment."

"Okay." I opened the car door and got out.

Owen rolled down the window and took off his glasses. "If you're hungry, cook with the ingredients that are currently in the fridge. I'll bring more so you can cook."

I was actually reluctant to say this, but if I didn't say it, I felt shameless. So with my prestige buried, I opened my mouth again. "Thank you for helping us."

Owen nodded and waved his hand. After that, he left with his car, disappearing into the thick fog that covered this place.

I looked at my phone again. There were already a few more articles about Grayson, all of which were blasphemous for not being careful when driving. Some even criticized that the incident was the second sign of Grayson's setback from his career after his injury.

However, I am now detached from Grayson. I don't want to think about how his career will turn out.
