Chapter 52 The Worst Mistake

Chapter 52 The Worst Mistake

Quinn's POV
"Excuse me, I'd like to ask about a patient named Grayson Wyatt Talon who was admitted this afternoon with a knee injury," I said to the nurse at the nurse station.
“I’m sorry, who are you? I can’t just tell a stranger about a patient’s status,” the nurse replied.
"I'm his massage therapist, working for the patient's team. I want to see his condition so I can consult with the doctor treating him here. Is that possible?"
"Okay, I understand. But unfortunately, the patient named Grayson was discharged a few hours ago. Didn't he tell you?”
"No, I haven't heard anything. But why did he ask to go home? He had an injury that seemed quite serious," I said in disbelief. Because I saw firsthand how much pain Grayson was in, so it was impossible for him to be lying.
"That's right. But I heard that the patient refused treatment. So, shortly after being examined by the doctor in the emergency room, he immediately asked to be treated at home by his therapist. And you are his therapist, right? So, I'm also confused why you came here. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. Do I need to call the doctor who treated the patient to talk to you further?"
“No, that’s not necessary. Thank you very much.” I smiled before turning to Owen, which made my smile fade instantly.
I can't get over Grayson. He's gone nuts. Whatever his reason is right now, it's not right to put his health second. If he doesn't want me to visit him here, he could at least transfer to another hospital. He shouldn't just go home and lie like that.
Who said he would get treatment from me? He doesn't even trust me and thinks I betrayed him. And I'm also going to submit my resignation letter. So who is the therapist he's talking about? Kelly?
“Quinn, do you want to try seeing Grayson at his house?” Owen nudged my arm, reminding me that I was still standing in front of the reception desk.
"Oh, sorry," I said to the other visitors waiting behind me. I then walked towards the exit, pausing for a moment in the hospital lobby.
Should I listen to Owen and meet Grayson at his penthouse? But Grayson once said he didn't like strangers knowing where he lived. Besides, what if it was just a trap to get me to come to his house so he could yell at me again? Besides, I didn't want to force myself to go there and see something I didn't want to see.
I’m so confused. I don’t know if I should go to his house now to wrap up our contract or wait for him to come back to S-T Arena, which means I’ll still be working with him for longer.
“So what do you think, Quinn? Should we go to Grayson’s house to deliver the document?”
I closed my eyes for a moment to focus my thoughts. It’s something I usually do before making a big decision. After feeling a little calmer, I opened my eyes again and looked at Owen. “I’ll wait for him to come back to the arena.”

Feel free to curse me as much as you want because I haven't been able to sleep well for the past few days. I can't find a new flat or a part-time job yet. My bosses at my previous jobs said that they already filled the positions they needed. Well, of course, I've been hanging them out to dry for almost a month, so I understand.
The only thing I can't understand is why I'm thinking about Grayson and feeling so guilty for not going to his penthouse that day. I'm really overthinking about what if he actually needed me and wasn't just bluffing when he said that to the doctor and nurse.
And now I’m getting even more nervous because the general manager said Grayson is coming today to practice again.
In my hand, I already have a bag containing a brown envelope with the agreement letter that I will give to Grayson. And I'm even more hesitant to give it to him because if I do, I will lose my only job, while I only have one part-time job left, and it's impossible to cover my living expenses for a month, let alone Dylan's.
Or, maybe I should just fake it and pretend nothing happened between us? Maybe I should apologize and beg Grayson, even though I didn't do anything wrong?
Argh, I can't do that. I can't admit to a crime I didn't commit. Besides going against my heart, it would only worsen my image, which isn't too good to begin with.
Even if I lied and admitted to Grayson's accusations, it's not guaranteed he'd still want to work with me because he definitely wouldn't want to hire someone he thinks betrayed him. Besides, if I begged him, he might just think that money is everything to me, even to the point of buying my self-respect.
“Grayson!”
“Finally, our captain is back!”
“Welcome back, bro! How’s your leg?”
Because of the players' reactions, I turned around to see Grayson, who had just arrived.
I thought I would see Grayson coming alone in a wheelchair or hopping on one leg, but instead I saw Grayson walking with Kelly by his side. Kelly slipped her arm through Grayson's and smiled sweetly at everyone who approached them.
“Kelly? Wow, you’re more beautiful than ever.”
“Our former intern has grown into a mature and very successful woman.”
“Kelly, do you still remember me? I’m the one who used to tease you.”
And there were many more questions the players asked Kelly.
Honestly, I didn't blame the players for enthusiastically welcoming someone who had once been part of their team. However, for some reason, my chest felt tight seeing how close they were. It felt like I was a stranger here and as if everyone had forgotten my presence.
I hid my bag behind my body when Grayson saw me. I also broke eye contact one-sidedly and went to the restroom.
I think my tears are about to fall.
