Chapter 170 I Hope They Keep Their Promise

Chapter 170 I Hope They Keep Their Promise
Quinn's POV

"Please give us a second chance. We want to repair our family relationship. We want to make amends and learn to be better parents to you."

I smiled faintly. "Just tell me, if you get a second chance, how will you deal with Grayson's parents?"

There was a moment when I caught my father's pupils dilating. Which meant he was a little surprised. Either he didn't know the answer or he didn't expect the question.

"If that's what you really want to know, then the right thing to do is to face them. We won't leave again. We'll talk to them."

Was it true that they wouldn't run away again? It seemed that if they were able to leave for so long, then it might happen again this time.

"Please trust us, sweetheart. This may not be the right time to show ourselves, but your mother and I won't back down this time. We will face whatever the future holds for you and Dylan."

Hearing those reassuring words from my father, from the person who was supposed to ensure safety in our family, felt like hearing a bird chirp for the first time. It sounded strange, but I didn't know that I needed it.

"What's the guarantee?" I finally opened my mouth again.

My father sighed softly. "We have no guarantees. But you can take our word for it. Your mother and I will be your home and make it a comfortable one for us."

I couldn't hold back my laughter. Although I didn't laugh out loud, it seemed that my laughter made my father realize that I didn't take his words seriously.

How could I? To be a home for Dylan and me, our parents would need to be fully present for us every day. And if they couldn't even do something as basic as that, then what was the point of a home?

Honestly, Dylan and I didn't need a big, empty house. We needed a warm home that could hug us.

"I can understand if you find it hard to trust us, sweetheart, especially me. Even though I've been watching over you from afar, I've just realized that it's not the kind of protection you want. So please let me make up for my mistakes. Please give me a chance to be a good father to you."

I had heard enough of his explanation and stood up. "Prove it with your actions and match your words. If you want to earn our trust, then do that."

Without waiting for my father's answer, I left the room. I looked for Grayson, who was standing facing the big window, and approached him.

I hugged him from behind and buried my face in his back. "Sorry for making you wait so long."

"Hey, babe, it was too short." He touched my hand and then turned around. "So, how was your first conversation? Did everything go smoothly?"

"I don't know if I can call it smooth or not. But I gave him a second chance with mom to fix everything from the beginning."

"Oh, I'm glad to hear that."

"Why?"

"Because I think they deserve it? I mean, your parents had a clear reason, even though their methods were not justified. But look, they now wanna straighten things out. Isn't that a good thing?"

A good thing? I hope so. I just hope they don't waste the chance I gave them. Because if they don't use it well, I might find it hard to believe sweet words again, especially those asking for a second chance.

"Now, are you calmer because I hugged you?"

I looked up at Grayson. "Yes, that really helped."

He ruffled my hair affectionately. "Then, please don't think negatively anymore. Okay?"

"I'll try."

Grayson shook his head and pursed his lips. "Don't just try. You have to actually do it."

"But it takes time to get used to it, Gray Bear. I can't just throw away all those negative thoughts right now."

"Here's the thing, Quinny." Grayson put his hands on my waist. "If you don't let thieves into your house, then why do you let negative thoughts nest in your mind?"

Oh shit. Those were the most relatable words Grayson had ever said.

But because my pride was as big as Mount Everest, I turned away and didn't say a word.

"Look at this sulky girl. She's talkative, but when she's angry, she suddenly becomes silent. Isn't that adorable?"

I rounded my eyes and was about to protest. But just as I opened my mouth, Grayson suddenly kissed me.

I gave in. I let my arms hang freely at my sides as he pulled us closer together.

I think I now understand what a true fated mate is. It's when your partner doesn't leave you to face problems alone, but also supports you fully and continues to fulfill their role in the relationship.

Now I understand that Grayson has all those criteria.

"Hoam, look, you're yawning too."

That's right. Accidentally but alternately, we yawned.

I covered my mouth with my hand. "I'm sleepy."

"Then you can sleep on my lap. Put your head on my lap. We'll back to the waiting room. Want to?"

"Yeah."

I don't know how long I slept, but I heard Grayson and my parents talking.

So I finally opened my eyes. It turned out I was no longer in the waiting room, but in... an infirmary room?

Oh, the surgery was over!

I immediately sat up, which made Grayson call my name. "Quinny, what's wrong?"

I was called and was still walking towards my mom, but I stopped for a moment. "I just want to know Dylan’s condition.”

Everyone suddenly looked at each other. This made me feel guilty.

"Hey, what's wrong? Why are you all silent and no longer talking about Dylan? You were talking about Dylan, right?"

I turned my gaze back to my mom. "Dylan is fine, is it? Please tell me that everything went smoothly and Dylan will wake up soon."

For the first time, I saw my mother shed tears. "Dylan is in a coma. The donor operation was successful, but Dylan's body is too weak."
