Chapter 150 Why Did You Leave Us?

Chapter 150 Why Did You Leave Us?
Quinn's POV

I backed away until I fell when she tried to touch me. I shook my head. "Where have you been all this time? Why did you only show up when I was about to die?"

She stopped. Her outstretched hand dropped back down. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness."

I laughed bitterly. "After all these years. Why now?"

Mom was silent. She looked at me with teary eyes.

"Don't look at me like that. Don't make me feel guilty."

"No, sweetheart, you're not to blame at all. I came to see you because I missed you so much."

"What did you do to this man? Did you kill him? You want to appear as the hero who saved my life so you don't feel too guilty?"

She shook her head. "He's not dead. He's just unconscious. The needle hit a certain point that made him faint. He'll wake up in about half an hour."

I held back my laughter. Honestly, I didn't know how I felt right now.

I was happy to see my mom again. I missed her so much. But on the other hand, I was also very mad and upset that she had only decided to show herself again now, when I had given up hope and accepted Hanz's offer.

I was disappointed that she had only come now. And even then, it was because of information from Owen.

I was disappointed that she had chosen someone else to tell about her whereabouts instead of coming to see me directly.

I'm sure she couldn't possibly not know where I live and what I've been doing all this time.

After finding her so close to my daily environment, I'm sure she's actually been monitoring me from afar and in secret.

And what makes me wonder is, why does she have to hide? If what she's afraid of is the people from the Grayson pack, then why did she stay silent when she knew I was with them?

I don't understand her thinking, saving herself but letting her child fall into the abyss she avoided.

I sighed heavily. "Too many things have happened. An apology alone isn't enough. I want an explanation."

"I'll explain everything to you, sweetheart—"

"Not here. You'll explain it somewhere else. Come with me."

Mom stopped in the yard. She looked at the old flat, our home, which was half destroyed.

Yes, I decided to bring her here. I wanted her to remember the past, especially the moment when she left me and Dylan. I didn't bring her here to remember our happy moments, but that moment of unilateral separation.

"This place—"

"It's ruined. Just like my heart," I replied.

Mom turned to the side. "This place is full of our memories."

"Including the bad memories that I really want to forget."

What I meant was the days after she left, which were difficult for Dylan and me. We had to adapt to living with a legal guardian and change all our previous habits.

For a child of my age and Dylan's at the time, it wasn't easy to do. Especially accepting the fact that the only parents we had, our mother, had suddenly given up on taking care of us again.

"I'm really sorry, Quinn." She then walked ahead.

I followed behind her. Entering this place was like reopening old wounds. Wounds that she and those criminals had caused.

But I had to hold back. At least I had to hear her explanation first. That was something she had to do.

"The door is broken," she commented when we arrived in front of our unit.

I chuckled. "Because some men broke in and wanted to molest me."

Mom immediately turned around. She then ran and hugged me.

She didn't say anything but she rubbed my back.

"No need to apologise for that because it wasn't your fault. They didn't manage to touch me either because Grayson arrived just in time."

I sighed. "Don't pretend you don't know Grayson. I'm sure you know him and his family better than I do."

"Did someone tell you, sweetheart?"

"Not his family, but someone else. An Alpha who is now in the same pack as you, Hanz."

"Hanz? You met him? Oh my gosh!"

I broke free from her hug. "Why are you so surprised? Aren't you living in the same pack now?"

She shook her head vigorously. "That's not true. I left there a long time ago. Hanz, he kicked me out."

"What the—" I took a deep breath. "So you mean he's trapping me so I'll agree to his request?"

"What did he ask of you, sweetheart?"

I cursed silently. Hanz, damn him, he really is a slippery eel.

"Basically, he said he knew where you were and would reunite me with you if I did something for him. He also said you were living in the same pack after being kicked out of your old pack, the Leander pack, where you came from."

Mom widened her eyes. "He's very evil and cunning. You must avoid him, sweetheart."

"But what he said about you being expelled from the Leander pack, is that true?"

The Leander pack was the name of the pack ruled by Grayson and his extended family. Their territory was located around Grayson's parents' house.

"That's true," she finally replied.

"And it was the Grayson family who expelled you?"

"Yes, they did—"

"Why?" I clenched my fists. "Then why didn't you stop me from getting involved with them when you were avoiding them?"

"It's all because of a misunderstanding, sweetheart. Even though I wasn't accepted by them, I wouldn't stop you from being with Grayson because I know you love each other. And I wouldn't separate two people who love each other."

I held back my laughter. That reason was so funny. Even funnier than the reason Hanz gave.

"At least explain what the misunderstanding is so I don't misunderstand you too."

"I want to do that now. But at least Dylan is here too."

I took out my phone. "Speak. I'll record it."

Mom looked at me with a gaze that radiated doubt.

"Why? Isn't your appearance now to clear up the misunderstanding with them and with me? Or have you changed your mind and want to separate me from Grayson?"
