Chapter 146 Peacemaker

Chapter 146 Peacemaker
Quinn's POV

Because Owen wouldn't leave, Grayson ended up waving his hand in the air.

I finally took action too. "Go. If you really feel guilty, go."

In the end, Owen really left. But before that, he still tried to clarify. "I wasn't stalking you, Quinn. That's the truth."

And then he left without looking back.

Oh, finally. Now without Owen and Hanz, the atmosphere was much calmer. So was Grayson.

"They didn't hurt you, did they?"

"No. Hanz was just being his usual self. Owen was trying to push Hanz aside. And well, that's how the argument started."

"You shouldn't have stopped me from hitting them both, babe."

"I don't want you to get involved with the police over something like this. Also, why did you finish early? Don't tell me you skipped practice!"

Grayson grimaced. "I asked for a short break. There's time until the second practice starts today."

"And you used that short break to come here?"

"Why, babe? I wanted to see you."

I pulled Grayson's ear. "You should’ve used it to rest. It's quite far from the arena here. You naughty boy!"

"Ouch, that hurts. Please let go, babe." Grayson grimaced as he held my hand.

I pulled even harder. But then I let go.

"Thank you for coming on time," I said.

Grayson blinked several times. "You're not mad at me, babe?"

"Anyway, you got rid of those two. So now I can work more peacefully."

Grayson smiled broadly. He then hugged me. "No need to thank me, babe. It's my job to protect you from annoying insects like them."

I shook my head. Grayson's mouth was indeed loose when he spoke. That was why I sometimes worried that he would be beaten by his opponents on the rink.

"Now I'm going back to the restaurant. You should also go back to the arena now."

Grayson shook his head and clung to me like a child. "I don't want to. I want to stay here with you longer."

"Oh, come on, Gray Bear. You're not a child anymore. We each have our own responsibilities to fulfil. I work at the restaurant and you practice for your games. So don't be lazy, okay?"

"I'm not being lazy. I just—"

Before he could finish his words, I silenced his lips with a kiss. "That's your reward. Now please go back. Okay?"

Grayson pouted. He then cupped my face and showered my face with kisses. "Don't work overtime even if the restaurant is busy. I'll cook your favourite food."

"And you, promise me you won't grant Hanz's crazy request. Okay?"

"Promise."

I returned to the restaurant after seeing Grayson actually leave. After all, I didn't want to risk him staying around, watching from his car like last time.

And when I was inside the restaurant, Hanz's friends had already left. However, I caught several customers stealing glances at me.

I could understand their curiosity. Who wouldn't be? If I were them, I would also be curious about the girl who was talking to the rookie star and heir to the largest law firm.

As long as they didn't disturb me while I was working, I would let them look at me. That was a risk I had to take.

And now I was heading towards Anton, who was in the kitchen. I approached him while picking up a new order slip.

"Hey. Do you know where Ema is?"

Anton turned his head. From the look on his face, he seemed surprised.

"She was at the cash register earlier. She's not there now?"

"Yes, it's empty."

"Then she might’ve gone out with Hanz. Maybe she has something important to do."

I nodded in understanding. "I'm sorry for the commotion earlier. It must’ve disturbed you. I'm also sorry for taking a short break."

Anton stopped what he was doing. "You don't need to apologise. I just don't know why those two are so obsessed with you. Are you using magic? Tell me so I can use it on the woman I like."

I slapped Anton on the back. "Yes, I can do magic. I'll turn you into a frog, and you'll only be able to turn back into a human if a princess kisses you."

Anton stuck out his tongue and made a ugly face. "About taking a break, you don't need to apologise. You're not a robot. I even ask for a short break when I'm tired."

"Thanks, Anton. You're the best."

Anton suddenly signalled with his eyes. "Looks like Ema is back."

"Really? Oh, okay, then I'll go see her first. Thanks again."

I rushed into the staff room because I heard the door close from that direction.

And sure enough, Ema was already in the room. She was taking off her apron.

"Ema," I called softly so as not to startle her.

But Ema seemed surprised because she turned around while holding her chest.

This time, I was also surprised when I saw her face. How could I not be? Her lipstick was smudged to the side. Not only that, there were lipstick marks on the apron she was holding. And I also smelled the same perfume as Hanz's.

Oh, don't tell me...

"Ah, it's you. What's up?"

"I want to apologise because the commotion must’ve disturbed the customers. I also want to apologise to you, Ema. You must’ve been disturbed by it."

"Ah. I understand. It's okay."

"You... seriously?"

Ema nodded. "Besides, you didn't do anything. You didn't start it. It was Hanz."

I rubbed the back of my neck. "All right. Thank you for your understanding, Ema. Well, I'm going back to work."

Ema nodded slowly. But when I reached the door, she said something else.

"Hanz kissed me. You're not jealous, are you? I mean, you're his girlfriend."

I reflexively turned around. "Don't worry. He's not my boyfriend."

"What? Are you serious? Then what was that confession he made back then?"

I shrugged. "For that one, you'll have to ask Hanz directly. Excuse me."

Yes, that was a safe answer because if Ema was disappointed, then it was because of Hanz, not me. That way, I wouldn't feel guilty towards her.
