Chapter 126 Crazy Sacrifice

Chapter 126 Crazy Sacrifice
Grayson’s POV

“Here’s your change, sir.”

I put on my mask and jumped out of the taxi before it came to a complete stop. "Just take it. Thank you."

I didn't care about anything but Quinn at the moment. I just wanted to see her quickly.

I ran to the receptionist. There were several nurses there.

"I want to see the patient named Quinn Blair Roux."

"I'll check for a moment."

I looked around to search. My legs and hands couldn't stay still, I felt like running in any direction as long as I could get to Quinn.

"I'm sorry sir, there is no patient by that name on the list."

I turned, shocked. "You have to check again."

"I'm sorry, but I already checked."

"Oh shit! Even at the OB-GYN clinic?"

"I'm sorry, sir. The name you mentioned is not there."

Suddenly, Owen's words flashed through my mind. "Grace Talon. Try searching for that."

Yes, maybe if it wasn't Quinn's name, then it could be my mom’s name.

"There is no patient by that name either."

"How is that possible!" Losing my patience, I took off my mask.

The nurse looked surprised.

"Please, I'm looking for someone right now. If you can't give me any information, then please don't spread what I was looking for earlier. Thank you."

"Wait. I see there is a patient with the last name Talon. Maybe you mean Henry Talon?"

I stopped, not leaving. I turned around and went back there. "Henry Talon? What happened to him? I mean, why is he here?"

"Since you are a family member, I will explain. The patient was registered for a kidney transplant. He came accompanied by a woman, his guardian, named Grace Talon."

"What?" I stepped back, leaning my body against the counter. "You're not joking?"

"I would never give you false information, sir. That's what's in the patient's medical records."

I still couldn't believe what I was hearing. The day before, my father was still healthy and even came to my house to slap me and judge Quinn. So it seemed impossible that he, who was healthy and fine yesterday, was suddenly here.

This was a truly unexpected plot twist. I thought Quinn was the one undergoing the examination, forced and accompanied by my mom. But it turned out to be my father who needed treatment. Then, what was Quinn doing here?

Wait, or could it be that Owen was deliberately lying to me? Could it be that he deliberately falsified the facts so I would come here instead of saving Quinn, who might be with him?

Oh fuck! I have to go now.

"Grayson?"

My steps stopped again. This time it wasn't because of the nurse, but because of my mom who was standing not far from me with puffy eyes and a hoarse voice.

"Grayson, who told you?" Mom walked towards me. She immediately hugged me as soon as we were close. She cried on my chest.

Realizing what I was looking for, I broke our hug. I held her shoulders and looked at her intently. "Mom, what happened? Why is Dad having surgery? And why are you crying?"

Waiting for Mom to answer felt like a thousand years. All kinds of bad thoughts attacked me from all directions. About Dad, about Quinn, and many more.

"Your dad has been keeping a secret. He is sick and today he collapsed. He needs a new kidney donor immediately to survive."

"But your blood isn't compatible with Dad's," I said.

Mom nodded. Her crying became more intense.

"Then who is the donor? And where is Quinn? Owen said he saw you with Quinn here."

Mom bowed her head deeply. Her body trembled. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry, my son. I was too greedy. I'm not a good mother. I'm sorry."

"What happened! Explain everything, Mom! Quinn is okay, right?"

Mom looked at me with tears in her eyes. "What you said is true. I can't donate my kidney. So Quinn is the donor."

I let go of her. "What the hell! What do you mean, Mom? Are you kidding? It can't be my Quinn, right? It's the other Quinn, right? Maybe they have the same name."

I took a few steps back and leaned against the wall. "I just met Quinn. She watched my game with Dylan. She cheered me on. She... she was even looking forward to the results of today's game. Owen just saw her too. So Quinn must be fine." I grabbed my hair roughly. My body slumped to the floor.

Mom approached me. She knelt in front of me and held my shoulders. "Quinn is healthy, she's fine. And that's why she can be a donor for your dad. She volunteered because the tests showed that their kidneys are a match."

I looked at her sharply. "So you mean Quinn, who is healthy, has to give up one of her kidneys, has to lose one of her kidneys, for a man who even had the heart to cheat on you? Are you crazy, Mom?!"

Mom shook her head. "You can say whatever you want to me. But that's not how it is. I really didn't force Quinn, she did it willingly."

"You forced her!" I snapped. I shook her hand off my shoulder.

Mom knelt down. She wiped her tears roughly. "I didn't force her, Grayson. Quinn wanted your dad to live so you could have a complete family. The warm family you've wanted since you were little."

"By sacrificing my woman for a man who doesn't even love you anymore? What else can I say other than that's crazy!"

I think I'm going crazy too. I have to stop the operation before it happens. I have to take Quinn and get her out of here. I have to protect Quinn from these crazy people.

I pushed her away from me and stood up.

"Where are you going? The operation has already started. They're both fighting in there. Let's just pray that everything will be okay."

"Fuck! I will never forget this. You forced Quinn. You're really evil, Mom."

She stood up and walked slowly towards me. "And about your dad, he's not having an affair and he still loves me." She hugged me, squeezing my hair.

"Let me go, Mom! Or I'll push you and we'll be a spectacle for everyone here."

Instead, she brought her lips closer to my ear and hugged me even tighter. “I’ve been lying to you all this time, my son. Your dad left home and distanced himself from you because….”

I could only stare blankly, clenching my fists as I listened to her explanation.

So, all this time, I had been living a lie.
