Chapter 25
Hera's POV
We return to the classroom on time before any of the teachers would come in.
The rain has stopped and the class is noisy and disorganized, so no one took notice of us as we walk in.
Makayla leaves her desk to join me.
"Where have you been, dork? I've been searching all over for you."
"I just went to get fresh air with Baek. I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me."
She sighs. "Well, at least you should have said something. Give me a heads up. You got me worried sick."
"Trust me. I'm fine, mom. I promise." I tease and smile at her. She smiles back. Makayla should get an award for the most forgiving heart.
The English teacher walks in and everyone rushes back to their seats including Makayla.
"Afternoon, class."
……….
After school, I decide to go to the cafe with Makayla this time since we have a lot to talk about on the way. Baek is against it but I assure him we'll be fine. He let me go, although he was still a bit skeptical.
"Look here. You're looking at the best driver in town." Makayla assures Baek. "Don't worry, bro. She's in safe hands." She winks at him.
He sighs. "Okay, then."
I smile before entering the car. Makayla drives off.
What could possibly go wrong?
"Why is he so concerned about you anyway?" Makayla is curious.
"I don't know, I guess he has his own reasons." I deny. I have become good at lying these days.
"He is so perfect" She sighs heavily and keeps dreamy eyes. "Where does he stay?"
"How am I supposed to know?"
"Don't tell me you don't know where he lives. You guys are together for almost a whole day. How could you not know where he lives?" She questions while trying to keep her eyes on the road.
"He doesn't really talk about personal things. He rarely does."
Unless I question him.
She hums. "Weird, right?"
There are so many things I know about Baek that most people in the world do not.
"Yeah, I guess."
There's traffic on the road and the vehicles are moving really slow. Suddenly all the cars stop moving completely. As I pay close attention to the people inside the car, looking as if they have all frozen.
"What is going on?" I turn to look at Makayla and I am shocked that she is frozen as well. I panic. Immediately, I put my head out of the window and the whole atmosphere is frozen and it seems as if the air has stopped.
I see a person coming from a distance and something tells me it is no other person than Jimin. The god of damnation.
My heart starts to race and I get really nervous. The only thing I can think about is Baek. I look at the reflection on the car mirror and I see Jimin walking towards our car.
I lay low on the seat and close my eyes tight, uttering a short prayer.
"Baek please help me" I whisper as I cry in silence.
As Jimin stands on top of the car, I begin to shake like a leaf and I expect the worst terror. Makayla or anyone cannot be able to challenge him even if they weren't frozen.
He uses his power to remove the top cover of the car. I scream in horror.
"Please don't hurt me, I beg of you please." I cry.
He smirks as though he is enjoying the scenario in front of me. He raises his hand to hold me but before he could get me, Baek appears from nowhere and uses his power to push Jimin away from me. Jimin lands on top of another car.
Baek looks at me and I feel a little relieved. I realize I need him now more than ever.
"Are you alright?"
Although I am a hundred percent not okay, I fake a smile to show him I am a little strong.
Jimin throws himself on Baek and they both fight with so much power. I shut my eyes again and cover my ears with my hands.
I cry on Makayla's lap. After what seems like a minute, someone touches me on the shoulder and my heart skips a bit. I refuse to raise my head until I hear Baek's voice.
"Hey, Hera. It's me."
He lends me a hand and I come down from the car. I notice he is bleeding on the lower lip and there is a small scratch on his face. I run out of words as I stare at the wound. My heart melts at the sight.
I pull him into a hug. At least it's the only way I could show appreciation at this time. He pats my hair and whispers.
"Close your eyes."
I do not know what exactly is going to happen but I totally trust him. I close my eyes.
By the time I open them, we are back to the same spot where I was about to enter Makayla's car.
Did we just time travel?
Baek stares at me and this time, he doesn't have a concerned face. I know Baek had turned back the hands of time and took me back to the time when I was about to make the worst decision of my life.
"You know what? I think I'll go with Baek." I do not waste any time telling Makayla so.
Makayla blinks at me in surprise. "What? why?"
"Well, me and Baek have something to do. Right, Baek?" I look in Baek's direction.
"Oh yeah, she's right"
Makayla sighs and gives Baek an accusatory look. "It's not fair you're stealing my bestie away from me. He's stealing you away from me."
Baek smiles. I whisper into Makayla's ear. "I'll tell you all the details when I'm back." I raise both eyebrows several times.
She smiles a little. "Fine, you can have her. But I am still upset, though"
"Thanks Makayla. I'll make it up to you. I promise."
She ignores me and drives off immediately.
"I warned you. You could have gotten yourself killed." Baek scolds me as soon as Makayla is out of sight.
"I'm sorry, I thought today would be like the other days. You know, a normal day in the life of a normal human girl."
"You thought? Jimin is searching for any possible ways he can get to you. Most especially when I am not around you."
Why does he care so much? He said something about a girl he cared about earlier and somehow I feel he is referring to me. Because he's never mentioned any girl during our conversation.
"How did you know I needed help?" I ask him.
"It doesn't matter. What matters is that you're safe." He turns to leave but I get in his way.
"You're not skipping my questions today Baek." I am eager to know how he knew where I was.
"I followed you."
Why do I feel like he's lying to me? If he followed me, he wouldn't have let Jimin come that close to me.
He sees the suspicion in my eyes.
"Fine." He sighs. "I felt it. Somehow, I heard your voice in my head. And I wasn't comfortable with the idea of you going alone with Makayla anyway.
Oh. That was it?
"Anyway, thanks for saving me. Again."
He smiles. "You're running late for work. Come on. Let's go.
We head towards his car. Before I get in, my eyes catch sight of Brianna and her minions eyeing me. I ignore them and enter Baek's car. He drives me off.
"Do you have a personal beef history with those girls? Why do they hate you so much?" Baek asks me as he drives.
"Just envy and hate towards me. I have no idea why. They're bitter girls."
"She's hot though. Don't you think so?"
I smack the back of his head.
"Ouch what was that for?"
"For being disrespectful"
"I wasn't being disrespectful? I was just stating facts. Who knows? I might even court her someday."
I smack him on the back of his head again. I know what he is doing. He is trying to make me jealous.
"If you don't stop smacking me on the head, I will drop you in the middle of nowhere."
"Then stop talking about Brianna"
Oh shit. That sounded like something a jealous girlfriend would say.
"Don't tell me you're just jealous that I'm talking about her."
I bluff. "Why would I be jealous because you're talking about Brianna?"
"I don't know. Maybe because you like me?" he has an evil smirk on his face.
I fake a laugh out loud that it sounds ridiculous
"Me? You mean me? Like you? That's the sickest thing I would do."
"If that's what you say." He replies with a shrug of his shoulders
The rest of the journey is silent. I almost slap myself on the face for making it obvious that I am jealous of Baek and Brianna.
And now, he's suspecting I like him. Way to go, Hera.
