Thirty-seven
Tatiana The king told me that he would have locked me inside my room for the stress I was trying to give him if I was not pregnant and he was trying his best so he could beat Thann to the godfather position in my son’s life. I had almost taken his sword and run him through with it because he was annoying. No matter how much I told him that I wanted a girl child, it is like he never listens, choosing to do what is in his head or heart rather than listening to my words.
He also got me Garnet who was just as worried for me as I was for myself and when the king finally left us to our own entertainment after refusing to let me out of his sight, all day. I knew he was going to write to Chandler that he had me, and Chandler should come and collect his bounty no that was actually my father.
“Maybe it is not so bad that the god-king will come for you, you are carrying his child. He would let you explain before he drags you off or tries to punish you. The child bump will stall him enough for you to start your plea.” Garnet suggested but I shook my head. I knew Chandler better than that.
“Even if he was stunned and he listened to my words, he would never believe me; after all, I am the daughter of the vile king and for once, I do believe him,” I replied as tears gathered in my eyes. “I had to learn the hard way and the god-king do not give second chances. If I had thought the way he treated me before was bad, he would be worst this time around and I cannot stand it.” I responded as garnet bites her lips.
“Is there any way we can beg this king to let us stay here instead, maybe tell him the truth,” Garnet suggested once more but I laughed bitterly.
“Tell him that I betrayed his friend. No, that would get me killed faster than I can blink, and sincerely speaking, I rather take my chances with Chandler than with a king who I do not even know his name.”
“If all you wanted was my name to make you feel like we are closer, all you had to do was just to ask.” The king said by the door, I whirled quickly because he startled me and almost ended up on the floor as I was a little still dizzy, he was the only thing that prevented me from meeting the floor because he managed to move fast enough to get his arms around me and then he smiled. “King Ascot at your service.”
“You almost made me hit the floor.” I griped and watched as his eyebrow jumped even as he allowed my struggled body to go, so I was standing on my own.
“Pardon me?” He asked. “I just saved you.”
“You refused to be pardoned, if you had not scared me, I would not have needed any saving.” I retorted and his eyebrows came down.
“Do you always attack people because you were startled or is this just how you normally say thank you?” He asked and I glared at him.
“What am I thanking you for?” I demanded and he sighed.
“Now I understand Chandler's plight if this is what he has to return home from war to, I wonder why he is even searching for you. He would have allowed you to live like a peasant for the rest of your days… oh you are with his child, now I understand.” Ascot stated and my glare increased. I could not believe his words; he has the gall!
“You…” I started.
“Dinner is served.” Ascot offered his hand to Garnet who placed hers in it. “I will escort the only lady here.” He just had to add and when Garnet tried to remove her hand, he refused to let her.
Even as his words were aimed to annoy me, his guards still went behind me and prevented me from falling. In a strange but sweet way, he reminded me of Chandler.
“You are even more of an annoying king than Chandler is. I never thought that would be possible,” I mumbled.
“Do not worry, the annoying king of yours will be here to pick you up in about ten days’ time, just sit tight and wait for him.” He added as my thoughts went troubled.
I still have not come up with a solution to prevent Chandler from killing me yet.
******************
Five days later, Ascot knocked on the door of the library where I spend my days holed up among books, wasting my time before my execution or before I am returned to my cage then executed when I am done giving birth to my child.
“What do you want, is what you have done not enough?” I demanded and he raised his eyebrow at my anger and shook his head in response to me being angry.
“You are always angry; how does Chandler manage you?” He asked and when I did not give him a reply, he sighed. “Some men from your father are here looking for you, what do you suggest I do?”
My heart beat loudly in my chest before I realized that my father was worse off than Chandler. “Kill them,” I responded flippantly and Ascot grinned.
“You should be called the God queen, now I understand one of the qualities Chandler likes you,” Ascot said and when I refused to talk, he added.
“You can actually go with them; you will get to meet your husband on the way…”
“No. I am going to remain here until Chandler comes.” I replied, Ascot sighed as he turned and left with another word,
When he left, the tears streamed down freely. I never thought the day would come when I would rather go to a man who will kill me than my own father.
At least the pain will be over as soon as it started with Chandler and with my father, the hurt that he could betray me was going to kill me long before the death blow is dealt.
“You really have learned about your father.” Chandler's voice said from the door, I let out a gasp as I turned to the door to see Chandler standing there with bloodshot eyes.
