Chapter 108: CHAPTER 108
AVARA
“I am not pleased with Doveris’s decision. A full-blown darkness came out from Adira and she’s telling us she’s not the source?!” Jay vented, pacing about in the kitchen.
Hugo and Dean were also upset about the sorceress’s words and support for Adira.
It only made their confidence and praise for her drop to a certain level.
And with the way she tried to counter my points by presenting Adira’s case as that of an innocent damsel who unknowingly got tangled in the web of a negative force… Yeah, it kind of opened the Alphas’ eyes to a hidden favoritism taking place.
“Avara, you were right. Doveris doesn’t want Adira to get punished,” Hugo said, standing next to me as I served the meal in our dishes, listening to them.
“Even with your explanation, she was trying to make us see that that girl has changed.”
“Changed my foot. Just from that alone? I can bet it with you that the source she’s looking for is still Adira,” Dean spoke bitterly, making me chuckle.
“Just you wait and see. All that drama of forgiveness will go down the drain.”
I laughed, turning over to face them with the tray in my hold.
“Okay, that’s enough. I don’t want my Alphas eating their dinner with a long face.”
They frowned, acting childish.
Hugo quickly helped me with the tray, as I said, walking over to the sink to wash my hands, “Besides, Doveris did tell us before that if she ends up feeling the energy after the verdict, then she’ll host a cleansing gathering. Isn’t that right?”
“The pack doesn’t need cleansing. Just kick Adira and her mother out of this pack, and we’re good,” Jay joked, making me laugh.
“You guys are hilarious. Alright, let’s put that aside. I’m starving,” I said, rubbing my hands while heading for the door.
The Alphas followed from behind, with Dean and Jay trying to swipe the meal out of Hugo’s hands, due to the aroma.
“Don’t you dare. I’m the one she gave because I’ve been helpful. All you two ever did was sit and pace around.”
“Are you serious right now!”
“What do you call the stirring I was doing in there!”
They argued, making me turn around to look at them with a frown.
The moment they saw my face, they went silent and apologized in a chorus.
I couldn’t keep the serious face on for long but began chuckling, pleading with them not to eat each other up.
“I want tonight to be special. Okay?” I smiled, watching their faces glow at my request.
They agreed to cooperate, promising to be on their best behavior.
“But Avara… You really surprised us back there.” Hugo spoke as we walked.
“I did?” I asked, pretending not to understand what he meant.
Jay and Dean immediately agreed with him, talking about how I handled the matter with Doveris, confidently.
“You remind us of Aurora. Same spice, same energy.”
“I knew we made the right choice. Our lovely, Luna Avara.”
“Oh my!” I giggled, turning over to face them, as we arrived at the dining room.
“I feel honored, my Alphas,” I bowed playfully, making them laugh.
.
The next day, I felt like moving around the pack and to the woods with Steel, since it’s been a long time since we ever got to hang out together.
Elvador prepared my woolly beast, and I carefully got on his back, beginning my journey into the pack.
Lily followed on a horse, moving next to me. She didn’t want me heading out alone, even though she knows I’ll be leaving with two guards.
Besides, I didn’t plan to leave her behind in the first place. I need my chat buddy close, just in case I get bored and need someone to talk to.
As we rode into the pack, the people of Crescent Moon began bowing at me, showing their respect.
I didn’t forget to show my love by waving at them with a smile.
That’s until I spotted Adira with some children, playing with them, and running with them in circles.
She was behaving completely different from her usual self, doing things that made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
She showed the children a basket of treats she got from the market, and I felt my inside shiver, worrying for the safety of the little ones.
Just when my body was about to kick into defensive mode, the children quickly rejected her gifts, and ran off looking scared.
It was clear they were aware of what she did and they have been warned to be careful.
“Oh, thank God,” I breathed a sigh of relief, watching Adira go sad over the rejection.
She behaved so innocent, attracting two adults over to her side, as they fell for her trick, and accepted her treats without her offering it to them.
This showed the impact of Doveris’s casting out from yesterday.
Some people actually think Adira is innocent.
“Are you okay, my Queen?” Lily asked, noticing my attention elsewhere.
I turned to face her with a smile and claimed everything was okay.
After the brief journey around the pack, we finally went into the woods, giving both Steel and the horses the freedom to move about.
The guards stood nearby, keeping an eye on both animals and on us.
Lily and I sat under a tree on the mat she brought along, as we stared at the sky quietly.
She soon sighed out and spoke uncomfortably, “My Queen, what could be the source of this energy the sorceress speaks of?”
I turned to face her and saw how her brows furrowed back worriedly.
“Do you think it has something to do with the demon bats when they broke into our pack? You know the Shaman attacked the palace with a mission to take over the throne and you stopped him. Maybe before those bats left, their negativity stayed behind and…”
“Lily,” I called, placing my hand on hers so she’d stay calm.
I smiled and assured her that it had nothing to do with them.
I had no evidence to prove this fact, but I was sure that it had nothing to do with them.
“This negative whatever only started after Doveris came,” I said, no longer keeping it to myself.
That got Lily staring worriedly as she asked if I was suspecting the sorceress of being the source of this problem.
“But she’s Doveris. She would have felt it and prevented the force from following her.”
“Or maybe she felt it and still brought it into the land,” I pointed, leaving Lily quiet.
I know she’s finding this hard to process.
Doveris has marked herself in every werewolf's heart as someone who can never do anything evil. Just like the way everyone adores Aurora, Doveris is at that same level. That’s why it’s hard for many to believe she can be the opposite of what they know her as.
Just as we were on this matter, another guard showed up on a flying horse, landing right in our spot.
“My Queen!” He got off his horse and bowed.
“Your presence is needed at the palace. The sorceress wants to see you and the Alphas on an urgent matter,” he reported, piquing my interest at once.
I already had a hunch on what this matter is about.
So to hear what Doveris has to say, I ended our peaceful break, ordering the guards to get our ride quickly.
