Chapter 44

Chapter 44

Megan could feel a sharp sting in her palms as her chipped natural
nails dug deep into them.

The publisher’s words caused a feeling of rage to course over her and now, it was too late to quench it.

Her eyes were hazy as her breathing became ragged and labored.

All restraints that Megan had held on to all of the years suddenly lost their control over her and she had had enough.

Her heart drummed violently against the walls of her rib cage as she tried to justify all that she was feeling.

The world needs to know about me

I deserve everything that she has

It should all be mine

These were the thoughts that ran through her mind as her eyes glared at Cleo.

“Tell me, how did you manage to capture such raw emotion in your latest manuscript? Truly, it feels lived.”

The publisher’s words rang over and over again in her head making the ringing in her ears grow even louder.

She could not hear anyone or see anything. It was like the entire restaurant grew dark and it felt like it was only her and Cleo Ainsley in attendance.

Her lips curled in a sly smirk as her feet took her closer to where the reporters and gets were surrounded around Cleo.

Linda was now nowhere in sight, not that she cared anyways.

“Lived?”

She asked coldly as her eyes seemed dead and unmoving.

She swayed on her feet as she struggled to go even closer to the group.

“Miss Melroy, are you feeling much better now?”

She asked as soon as she got into her clear line of vision.

Her gaze was soft but everything about her right now was more than enough to make Megan’s skin crawl.

She hated the fact that she seemed to pity her.

“Stop pretending like you care you bitch.”

Megan spat loudly causing the entire room to grow silent. Now, everyone’s eyes were on her.

The silence was so loud but right now, Megan could care less.

Cleo blinked rapidly as if to get over the shock that she felt from Megan’s response.

It brought great joy to Megan to finally see her usually perfect composure faltering.

Her mission was clear today. Tarnish her reputation and make it clear that she was not the writer that she always claimed to be.

What better place to do this than a place where there are reporters and publishers.

The universe had handed her an opportunity and it was an opportunity that she was not going to waste.

Megan now believed that she would have to take the life that she wanted instead of waiting for it to drop in her laps.

“You think you’re so brilliant don’t you?”

Megan said coldly as her feet kept taking her closer and closer to Cleo. Linda was now behind her and they were both looking at her like she had gone crazy.

This made Megan even more angry because she believed that no matter how well she expresses her emotions here, these two will never truly see where she was coming from.

“You think she writes these masterpieces? Well she does not.”

Megan continued deciding it was best to hit the nail on the head early enough.

However, the response that he was expecting from the guests was one that was very far from her imagination.

They were all staring at her with pity in their eyes.

However, this was not enough to stop Megan as all she was concerned about was telling her truth.

Megan’s chest faltered a bit as her words poured down like venom making the very hairs on her body stand straight.

Her head felt light and it was almost as if something else had taken over her body while she watched from above.
