Laura.
“Why here?” Mom asked with so much concern and worry. “You can stay in the pack house and leave at dawn.”
I shrugged. “And ruin your night. Come on Mom, you need to spend the night getting pregnant. Don't worry about me. I will be with Saskia tonight.”
Mom still looks uncertain if she would let me or not.
“You should go guys, I will be fine here."
Mom and Dad left and I continued walking to Saskia’s house. But she wasn't there.
Where could she be at this hour? It's getting late already. I waited for hours and still no trace of Saskia coming back.
Soon I heard the howling of werewolves near the place. The golden moon starts to appear in the night sky, shining brightly and beautifully.
The werewolves will transform tonight and they won't be able to stop it.
And also, this is the time when Saskia was out of the forest to gather her ingredients.
That was probably why Saskia was nowhere to be found.
I looked up at the night sky while thinking about Mom and Dad.
“Moon Goddess, please grant my wish. Let me have my wolf.”
The moon was radiant, adorned with what seemed like golden dust. It was sparkling like a happy goddess. My head keeps telling me that it is the perfect time for my parents to conceive me, but why do I have this fear that is slowly creeping inside me?
What is it that I should be afraid of and worried about?
Ugh! Maybe, I was just nervous.
I stayed outside of Saskia’s house, waiting patiently. Until I heard sounds of footsteps walking at the dried leaves and stems.
Soon, Saskia appeared from the darkness. I quickly stood up to greet her.
“Sas… you are finally here!”
Saskia looked surprised upon seeing me in front of her door.
“You…” she whispered.
I smiled gently as she walked towards me.
“Yes, it’s me. You may not remember because the thing is, you will meet me in the future,” I was so happy thinking that I accomplished my mission here.
I ignore the negative feeling creeping inside me and focus on hoping that I will succeed.
But the confusion in Saskia’s beautiful face made me wonder what was going on?
Why did she have that look on her face?
“What’s wrong, Sas?”
“You… you are that woman in the sacred lagoon,” she announced with certainty.
“Huh?” It’s my turn to get confused.
Saskia suddenly caressed my face.
“I saw your gorgeous face reflecting in the sparkling water of the sacred lagoon. I’m certain it was you yet…” She stopped in mid sentence. She seemed to be feeling doubtful if she would tell me or not.
“What is it, Sas?”
“Your eyes… That woman I saw from the lagoon had these sad beautiful green eyes that turned into a fiercely glowing set of eyes. Yours were sad but not fierce.”
I wanted to arch my eyebrow but I stopped myself. Of course I don’t want to offend her. At this time of our lives, we aren’t that close. Our friendship hasn’t happened yet.
“Maybe because, at the moment, I don’t have reasons or anything that will cause me to become fierce,” I shook my head and chuckled. “Simple as that, don’t you think?”
But Saskia didn’t join me. She stayed gazing at me intently.
“What? Is there more to it?” I asked. I am starting to worry about the way she acted.
“There is.”
I remembered that Saskia once mentioned to me that she saw my face from the lagoon even before I was born. But I did not focus on it because I was too broke to not have my wolf. That time, I was thinking it was just her way to console me by telling me that I was special.
“What do you mean?” I just couldn’t help asking.
Now, I regretted that I didn’t dig more the time she mentioned this event to me.
“Let’s get inside first.”
Saskia opened her door and invited me in. She prepared some tea and offered it to me while joining me at her couch. We heard another batch of loud howls from outside. I couldn’t help but glance at the window.
“Werewolves were still howling in the dark. They must be very busy, right now,” she commented.
“Yeah, and my parents must be the busiest ones,” I answered with a hint of mischief.
“What do you mean by that?”
“I urged them to conceive me now. I was supposed to be born two years from now. But I think the rarest golden moon is the best time to be conceived. That might help me fix the problem I am facing in my future.”
“What?! I don’t understand!”
I sighed hard and deep. “I don’t have my wolf.”
“Oh…” she silently gasped.
That was just a word yet it means a lot.
“That’s impossible. You are special.”
I shrugged her off. “Yeah. You kept telling me that in the future. I don’t know what makes you think that I am favored by the moon when I can’t even shift. You see? I am already eighteen but I still don’t shift. It's a full moon. You weren’t even confused that I wasn’t shifting?”
That too, confused me. She should have asked me why I was in my human form when it was a full moon already.
Saskia shrugged her shoulders.
“Well, that’s because I know you are special. I expected you to be different from your kind. I even thought that you have these abilities like lycans have. You know, lycans were able to restrict transformation. They transform at will, wherever and whenever,” she stressed those last words for me to understand her assumptions.
“But knowing you don’t have a wolf surprised me a lot. I didn’t expect that the favored Luna doesn’t have a wolf.”
“Favored Luna?” I force a small laughter. It sounds like a sarcastic laugh and I could not help it. “I was lowered down to being an Omega, Sas. How come I will become a Luna?” I shook my head in disbelief. “Oh, maybe after changing my fate, I will. This is why I am here.”
I once more gathered hope upon thinking about the mission I accomplished here.
“Well, now I am curious how you convinced me to create a time portal. Knowing myself, I am not easily coaxed to do a favor like this for someone. Unless it's a big thing. There are a lot of consequences in messing with time. You will probably pay a big price.”
Foreboding fear starts to consume me. I felt chills down my spine.
