Chapter 83 Unexpected
Chapter 83 Unexpected
This was the 'business'?!!!!
My jaw literally dropped as I saw Jay sitting on the judges seat casually holding a pen like he didn’t just walk me through a panic attack thirty minutes ago.
My eye twitched like a broken doll.
His eyes met mine and he gave me a small nod.
I interpreted the nod as a go ahead, you got this tessa.
If only it was coming from Klaus.
Stop it Tessa!!
You have an audition to ace.
I closed my eyes and started. I don't remember what i did or how I did it but the moment I learned to breath with the stage,I didn't have cold feet anymore.
It was the total opposite when I stepped out if the audition hall. It felt as if my knees were pleading to be separated from my body.
Whether I absolutely killed it or embarrassed generations of my family lineage remained unknown, but I did it.
I clutched my bag tighter and speed walked out of the building before anyone could stop me and tell me I accidentally performed for the janitors instead.
I pulled out my phone.
No calls, no texts , no dramatic go conquer the world messages.
I was disappointed.
I was already halfway to the exit when someone called behind me.
“Tessa.”
I turned.
Of course it would be Jay. He walked towards me like he had all the time in the world.
"You're leaving rather quickly"
“I was escaping before anyone changed their mind and revoked my audition rights.”
He laughed.
"Happy to see you didn't die in there"
"Why so you can rub the fact that you judged me in my face"
He laughed stopping in front of me.
“So…” he dragged out slowly. “Can I properly talk to you now?”
I frowned "it looks like we already are"
He rubbed his hand at the back of his head.
“There’s a café nearby. Let me buy you a drink.”
I blinked twice.
"What?"
"Nothing exclusive, just friendly," he said almost immediately.
"Okay" I responded.
Yeah what's the harm in that?
The cafe was about a ten minute walk from campus. It was smaller than I expected but it was also cozy and warm.
This would definitely be my outside campus go to place.
We sat near the window. Jay ordered iced coffee and I ordered hot chocolate because I deserved compensation for emotional damage.
Remember that curiosity that killed the cat?
Yeah it was coming for me too.
“So…” I leaned forward. “Why were you judging auditions if you’re like twenty?”
“Twenty two.”
“That’s still suspiciously young.”
He smiled.
“I’m a film director.”
I blinked.
“A what?” I thought I heard him wrong
“A movie director.”
I nearly dropped my drink.
I smacked my lips "You're lying"
He laughed.
My brain short circuited.
“But you were on my flight.”
“Yes.”
“You helped me during turbulence.”
“Yes.”
“You stalked me around campus."
“I worked around campus.” he corrected
“And now you’re casually saying you direct movies?”
He laughed loudly.
“I started young.”
I paused. He is young currently meaning he must have started way younger than usual.
He sighed and gave me full details.he explained how he started making movies when he was a teenager. It was for fun at first but movie after another, competition after another, small film projects here and there.
And viola, he's,making movies
"Then why are you here?" I asked "Aren't you supposed to be in a boathouse enjoying your money?"
He stirred his drink.
"Portfolio" he said like it was some secret code to reveal the answers to all my questions.
"Wow, portfolio that's it" I said sarcastically
He laughed.
“Film changes constantly. Arts change constantly. I wanted more experience.”
OK, that made sense.
He mentioned how he's going to do more assisting than actual work because he was here to learn.
Time flew by as fast as the speed of light. We talked, laughed, shared stories like old time friends catching up and it didn't feel awkward.
He made a huge mistake and asked about Klaus.
Then I accidently talked about him for twenty minutes straight, then thirty or maybe longer than that.
"You really like him," Jay said eventually.
"I love him," I said, staring down at my already cold chocolate.
I could swear I saw Klaus’s face in the cup.
"And I miss him," I blurted out. "A lot"
"He is one lucky guy"
I smiled looking outside the window to realise the sky had turned orange.
“Oh my God.” I gasped
I looked at the time.
“Oh my God.”
“What?”
“My hotel.”
I practically jumped up.
I totally lost track of time and forgot I was supposed to call Klaus and rest a bit at least
Jay offered to take the same taxi because we were going the same direction which made sense so I agreed.
The ride back was more tiring and quiet. Not like I had the energy for any conversations.
My body suddenly remembered I had traveled, toured an entire campus, survived an audition and nearly passed out twice.
When we finally reached my hotel entrance, relief washed over me.
That relief didn't last for another second because someone stood outside there.
One hand is in his pocket and the other holding a huge bouquet of flowers. Messy hair as always.
My heart stopped.
I didn't whether to be happy or confused or pissed he hadn't returned any of my calls despite the sudden visit.
"Klaus?"
His head lifted immediately "tessa"
His eyes darted from me to Jay and then back to me.
Well this looked like I just gave the wrong impression.
"How did yo-"
"Who's this?" He cut In immediately
"Jay" he stretched his hands for a handshake but Klaus didn't take it. "No doubt you're the klaus she spent hours talking about"
I shot him a look and he kept quiet.
"Klaus" I called "why are you here?"
I knew better than to think he was solely here for me. If he was I'd know. The look on his face wasn't surprise I miss you and flew here look
Something was definitely wrong.
