Chapter 19 The Library
THE FIFTH ELEMENT 🌊🔥🌪️⛰️☯️
~Cassie's POV ~
Being up close to him like this made me realize he was actually really beautiful. I mean handsome. His eyes were so bright and sparkly, like seawater with sun on it.
“Are you mute?” he asked me and tilted his head to take a good look at me.
“No,” I muffled out.
“Good. Like I asked you, leaving already? I thought you were enjoying staring at me,” he said to me and smirked.
Oh no, he caught me.
“I wasn’t staring at you,” I lied to him.
“So what were you doing then?” he asked me.
“Huh?” I replied. I didn’t know what to say to him.
“What were you staring at? If it wasn’t me,” he asked me, slowly coming closer to me. Not touching. Just… closer.
“The books!” I blurted out.
He scrunched his eyebrows together.
“Huh?” he asked me.
“I was staring at the books. They looked really good and old. Like something straight out of a fairytale. You just happened to be standing there as well,” I said to him.
“I see. So what’s the name?” he asked me with a serious face.
“What?” I asked him.
“What is your name?” he asked me.
“It’s um… Cassie,” I said to him and nodded.
“So Cassie… there’s a rumor around school that a new girl with the fifth element is on board, and you’re a new face, so I have to ask, is that by any chance, you?” he asked me.
“I… think so,” I said and shrugged my shoulders, unsure what to do or say.
“Well then, I guess it’s an honor to meet you, Cassie,” he said and gently took my hand to kiss.
I was shocked by his action. His lips were warm.
“Thanks,” I said to him and snatched my hand away from his lips too fast.
He smirked at me.
“So, what book are you looking for?” he asked me.
“I don’t know. Anything related to the history of this place, this school. These powers. Anything,” I said to him, and he nodded.
“Then you’re looking at the wrong place. Follow me,” he said and winked at me before walking away.
I contemplated for some seconds if I should follow him or not, then I decided to follow him.
We went to meet the old lady at the counter.
When we got there, he whispered something to her and she nodded and brought something that looked like a key out from her drawer and gave it to him.
“Come on,” he said to me, and I followed him like a good girl.
“Where are we going?” I asked him.
“To show you the books you wanted. Let’s just say, not everyone here has access to those kinds of books. Only special students have the access to it. Like myself,” he said and wiggled his eyebrows.
I chuckled.
He doesn’t seem like any danger at all, unlike what Stacy and Madeline said to me about him.
He unlocked a door with the key he was with and opened the door for me to enter.
“Ladies first,” he said to me.
I looked at him before entering the room.
He closed the door behind him after he came in.
“So hopefully you’ll find whatever it is you’re searching for here,” he said with his arms wide open.
The room smelled like old paper and dust. Shelves floor to ceiling. No windows.
“Okay. Thanks,” I said to him, and he nodded at me.
~
I looked around the room, not sure where to start.
I picked up the first book that I got my hands on.
I inspected the book. It was The History of the Fire Clan.
I immediately thought of Jake. This is his history. Pages with maps of volcanoes, oaths written in ink that looked like flame.
I read a few pages of the book and dropped it to pick up another.
This was about the Water Tribe. Tides, treaties, names I couldn’t pronounce. I looked over to Damon and he was sitting on a chair with his leg crossed on the table. He was busy reading something at the corner. I couldn’t see his face because the book he was with was covering his face.
I read some pages from it and dropped it as well.
I picked another one and it was about the Earth Tribe. Soil types. Mountain oaths. I skimmed through it and dropped it.
I picked up another and this was about the Air Clan. Sky charts. Wind currents. I skimmed through it but was drawn to something that was written on one of the pages.
~The Coming of the One with the Fifth Element.~
This was about how the Air Clan communed with the higher beings that bestowed these gifts upon them, and these beings revealed to them that there will be another element. The fifth. The most powerful of all elements ever known.
And this fifth element would save their world from the dark powers that threaten them. ~
I got to the end of the page and wasn’t satisfied.
I checked the book again for more info on the fifth element but nothing else was written.
No… No, there has to be more.
I dropped the book and picked up another book. I read through it but nothing about the fifth element was written on it.
I did the same thing for almost 6 other books but I got nothing else.
“Damn it!” I said in frustration and threw the books surrounding me away. They hit the floor with dull thuds getting Damon's attention.
