Chapter 10 Private Class with Mr Ken Griffey
THE FIFTH ELEMENT 🌊🔥🌪️⛰️☯️
~Cassie’s POV~
“Cassie! There you are! Glad I finally found you,” Madeline said when she saw me.
She was with another girl.
“Hi. Were you looking for me?… And how did you even know where to find me?” I asked, a little surprised. Madeline just smiled mischievously.
“My friend, Gia, here helped me find you. She’s really good at earth magic. And she’s a tracker,” Madeline explained.
“Nice to meet you, Fifth Element,” Gia said to me. I glanced over at Madeline and gave her a look before replying to the girl.
“Hi. Thanks,” I said to Gia.
“Anyways, what are you even doing up here all alone? You have to come with me. The teacher’s looking for you. Plus, did you forget you had an appointment with my mom today?” Madeline asked.
“Oh. Right. I almost forgot. But why is your teacher looking for me again?” I asked her.
“He noticed you didn’t participate in today’s activities. So he wanted to speak with you. And perhaps give you your own private lesson as the VIP of the school,” Madeline said.
I looked over at the girl she was with and back to Madeline and sighed.
“Can we just go now,” I said and made my way outside the building.
Madeline and the other girl followed.
🔥
When we got to the classroom, I took a seat while Madeline told me she had to go and that the class was just for me.
She left me there by myself, waiting for the teacher to arrive.
A few minutes later, the teacher came into the classroom. He dropped a worn leather bag on his desk with a soft _thud_.
I was wondering what could be in that bag.
“Sorry I’m late. Cassidy Fairchild, it’s an honor to have you here. I didn’t get the chance to formally introduce myself. I’m Mr. Ken Griffey. One of your teachers, but I only specialize in the mental and emotional aspects of your powers,” he explained.
“So you’re like the therapist teacher?” I asked, and somehow my own question amused me.
“We have a guidance counselor for that. Although I’m also open to helping any student that needs psychological help. I’m all for progress in that area,” he said.
“Okay,” I said and nodded, pretending to understand.
“So Cassidy, let’s get to why you’re here. Can you tell me about your powers?” he asked and took a seat beside me. The chair scraped against the old wood floor.
“Um, I don’t know… I don’t have any idea what this power you’re all so interested in is. I don’t know what it is, okay? And please, I go just by Cassie,” I told him.
“Hm, okay. Cassie, I think we’re going to have to figure that out together. But I need you to help me a little,” he said.
“Okay. What do you need?” I asked him.
“I need you to tell me: has something unexplainable ever happened around you, and did you maybe feel something like a shocking or tingling sensation in your palm when those unexplainable things happened?” the teacher asked.
“No,” I lied and started blinking rapidly.
I was always a terrible liar.
“Cassie, I want to help you figure this out, but I need you to be truthful with me. Please,” the teacher pleaded, his voice gentle.
“Fine. I guess something weird like that has happened to me. A few times,” I answered truthfully.
“Can you tell me exactly what happens when you get the tingling sensations?” he asked again.
“Well… let’s just say really weird things happen. So there was this girl who went blind for close to a minute at my last school, but the weird thing is, I wished for that to happen in my mind. And surprisingly, it came to pass. But it didn’t last,” I explained.
“Wow. If this is what I think it is, then this just got a whole lot more interesting. Tell me, what else happened when you felt the tingling sensation?” the teacher said, leaning in.
“That would be a few days ago. I got so angry at my mom, and I just had a slight thought of her choking on something… and she just started choking. Literally. If it was really my doing, then I didn’t mean to do it. I would never hurt her on purpose.”
“I understand that. And I’m sure your mom understands too. You see, Cassie, this is the more reason why you need to be here. For us to help you understand your powers and control them at will. And for what it’s worth, I know your mother loves you very much.” The teacher gave me a pat on the shoulder.
“I know she loves me. But not enough. She was too keen on giving me away to strangers… so.” I said to him, looking down at my hands.
“She did what’s best for you. And I’m telling you, if you work with me, you’ll discover the lengths of your magic and how to be in control of it, and you can even go see her again when everything’s done,” the teacher said.
“Really? I can go see her again?” I asked him, my head snapping up.
“Yes, of course. But you have to work with me here, okay?” he asked.
“Okay,” I said and gave him a small smile.
“So I’m going to start off by telling you what I think your power is,” he said.
“By all means, tell me,” I said.
“I think your power is the Element of the Mind,” he said and smiled.
“You mean like mind control or something?” I asked him.
“Yes. Exactly like mind control,” he replied.
“Oh.” I was speechless.
“But I think it’s best we keep that to ourselves until we’re certain about it. Okay?” he said.
“Okay. Sure,” I told him.
“Well, I believe today’s lesson is over. I’ve kept you for long enough. I’m sure you have other things to do. You may go now,” he said and went to sit in his chair, pulling a thick notebook from that leather bag.
I nodded and made my way to the door, still in shock from what he’d said.

I was able to locate the cafeteria, and luckily, I spotted Madeline from afar and decided to go to her table.
I hurriedly made my way to her and accidentally collided with someone along the way. Unfortunately, the girl was carrying a tray of food, and some of it spilled down the front of her dress. She hissed, her eyes narrowing at me.
