Chapter 112

Chapter 112
ALEXANDER

The council chamber was hushed as Alexander began to address the gathered members, per Alpha Roman's suggestion. The atmosphere was tense, the weight of recent events hanging heavily in the air. Roman's presence added an extra layer of gravity to the proceedings, his keen eyes sweeping over each council member with an almost predatory intensity.

As Alexander spoke, his voice carrying a mixture of authority and concern, Roman's gaze never wavered. He observed the council members closely, his instincts sharpened by years of experience. And then, his gaze settled on Adrian, a young member of the council who had always remained on the periphery of their discussions.

Adrian's eyes widened as he felt the weight of Roman's gaze upon him. The intense scrutiny made his heart race, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead. He knew he had to maintain his composure, even as Roman's smirk hinted at a secret he seemed to possess.

When Roman finally spoke, his voice was calm and measured, a stark contrast to the tension that filled the room. "Adrian," he began, his tone almost conversational, "you've been busy, haven't you?"

Adrian's throat tightened, his gaze darting around the room as he struggled to comprehend what was happening. He opened his mouth to respond, but his voice caught in his throat.

Roman's smirk deepened, his eyes narrowing as he leaned back in his seat. "You've been playing a dangerous game, my young friend. The question is, why?"

A murmur rippled through the room as council members exchanged puzzled glances. Adrian's confusion was palpable, his mind racing to understand how Roman could have any knowledge of his actions.

"You see," Roman continued, his gaze unwavering, "you assumed you were smart enough to cover your tracks, to avoid suspicion. But you underestimated one thing: me."

Adrian's face paled, a sickening realization settling in the pit of his stomach. He was trapped, exposed before the entire council, his secrets laid bare.

"Why did you do it, Adrian?" Roman's voice was like ice, his stare unrelenting.

"I... I don't know what you're talking about," Adrian stammered, his voice wavering.

A cruel smile curved Roman's lips. "Oh, but I think you do. I think you know exactly who you killed."

The room was filled with a tense silence, the truth hanging heavy in the air. And then, with a dramatic flourish, Roman revealed his trump card.

Adrian panicked "I never killed Karen!"

"I never said who you killed, Adrian."

Gasps rippled through the council chamber as realization dawned on everyone present. Adrian's face turned ashen, his denial crumbling in the face of undeniable evidence.

"You... you can't prove anything," Adrian protested weakly.

Roman's smirk remained, his confidence unshaken. "Oh, I think I can. And I will."

As the council members exchanged shocked glances, Alexander's voice cut through the tension, his tone firm and resolute. "Take him to the prison cages. We will interrogate him thoroughly."

Adrian was led away, his protests falling on deaf ears. The room buzzed with a mixture of disbelief and unease. No one had expected one of their own, a young council member, to be capable of such darkness.

As the proceedings continued, Lucy felt a growing sense of unease. The revelations had shaken the foundation of their council, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. She glanced down at Astrid, who was nestled in her arms, oblivious to the turmoil around her.

With a heavy sigh, Lucy rose from her seat. She knew she needed a moment of respite, away from the heavy weight of the council's decisions. Gathering Astrid close, she left the council chamber and made her way to their room.

The room offered a sanctuary of sorts, a place where Lucy could find solace amidst the chaos. She settled Astrid in the crib, the baby's silver eyes blinking up at her with curiosity. Lucy's heart ached with a mixture of love and protectiveness.

As Lucy gazed down at her daughter, she couldn't shake the feeling that their world was becoming increasingly complex and dangerous. The events of the day had revealed cracks in their foundation, secrets and shadows lurking beneath the surface.

With a sigh, Lucy sank onto the bed, exhaustion settling in her bones. She glanced at the pendant that Sharma had placed on Astrid, a symbol of protection in a world fraught with uncertainty. Lucy knew that they were facing challenges unlike any they had encountered before, and the road ahead would be treacherous.

In the distance, the echoes of voices from the council chamber drifted through the air, a reminder of the complexities and conflicts that surrounded them. As Lucy closed her eyes, her thoughts were a whirlwind of worry and determination. She was ready to do whatever it took to protect her family and her pack, even if it meant navigating a path filled with darkness and betrayal.
