Chapter 11: Life as Luca’s Wife
After the horrifying incident, Amelia went straight into the bedroom and slipped under her blanket. She was clearly in shock over what had happened, but even more shocked by the realization that paying off her debt to Luca might actually get her killed in the most ridiculous way.
"Unbelievable! No wonder he broadcasted my location to everyone! He must’ve done that to lure out his enemies. And now it makes sense why pretending to be his wife could magically cancel out my massive debt. He planned all of this from the beginning!" Amelia grumbled in frustration.
Not long after, the sound of Luca’s car pulling into the driveway echoed. Fed up, Amelia immediately locked the bedroom door from the inside. She wasn’t going to let that damned man sneak into the room or take a shower in the bathroom without her knowing, like he did yesterday.
"In a house this big, there must be plenty of bedrooms! I don’t care if his personal stuff is in here, I want nothing to do with him!" she muttered angrily, dragging a sofa to block the door.
"Hmph! He won’t be able to get in unless he breaks it down!" Amelia said with a sly grin.
She returned to the bed and threw herself onto it without even changing her clothes—she was too frustrated to care. Just as she was about to close her eyes, someone walked past the bed and commented,
"So unhygienic! At least change your clothes before going to sleep!"
Amelia froze in disbelief. The voice—it was Luca!
"How did you get in?! I locked the door!" she pointed toward it.
Luca turned his head toward the door, then looked Amelia up and down.
"So you purposely tried to lock me out of my own room, huh? You really think you could? Idiot."
"You must have a secret entrance to this room!" Amelia darted her eyes around, searching.
"God, you’re so noisy. I just came to grab some clothes. What’s your problem—ah, forget it!" Luca said, clearly annoyed. He walked to the wardrobe, grabbed a few clothes, then approached Amelia and threw a pair of pajamas at her.
"Here, wear this. Don’t go to bed in those thin clothes. You’re polluting my eyes!"
"Pajamas? But… this is a man’s outfit!" she said, staring at the clothes in disbelief.
“That’s better than showing off your shapeless figure!” Luca snapped before walking out, pushing the sofa aside that was blocking the door, and leaving just like that.
“Did he just say… my figure is shapeless? He should’ve asked how I’m doing! I almost died in the dumbest way possible and all he cares about is pajamas? That crazy man!” Amelia grumbled.
Frustrated, Amelia began changing her clothes, glancing down at herself and realizing the pajamas she had put on were clearly not made for a woman—they were men’s size.
“Wait a second... these are Luca’s pajamas. What was he thinking, telling me to wear his? Ugh, whatever, I’m too tired to care.”
She threw herself onto the bed and fell asleep, peaceful and utterly indifferent to whatever might await her the next day.
The next morning, as usual, Amelia—who was used to waking up early—headed straight to the kitchen to cook. She tied up her long hair into a messy bun like a typical housewife, revealing her slender neck. It made her feel more comfortable while cooking.
She immediately began preparing spices and ingredients—there was quite a lot stocked in the kitchen. For Amelia, letting food go to waste was a form of foolishness. She found it strange that a house so full of everything still relied on restaurant takeout.
Amelia started chopping the meat and sautéing it together with vegetables.
“Healthy and tasty food, perfect for breakfast,” she murmured.
Smelling the aroma, Isabella showed up again and peeked over the pan.
“Smells delicious!”
“I made a lot. Just sit, it’ll be ready in a minute,” Amelia said warmly.
“Nice pajamas you’ve got there!” Isabella teased.
“They’re not mine.”
“Yeah, those are Luca’s. Obvious! Did you two sleep together last night?” Isabella raised an eyebrow.
“God forbid! I locked my door, but he suddenly barged in. Is there a secret entrance to my room?”
“There is.”
“Where?”
"Secret!" Isabella replied shortly.
"Oh my gosh! I thought we were friends!"
"We are friends. But that doesn’t mean I can share classified information," Isabella said with a cheeky grin.
Amelia let out a sigh. She went back to stirring the food and plating it.
"Alright then, let’s eat!"
Isabella looked delighted. Even though she was a skilled shooter, at mealtime she looked like an adorable little puppy. Sitting together at the dining table—just like yesterday—Isabella ate enthusiastically.
"So, what’s my mission for tonight? Another dance party? Am I going to be introduced somewhere new again?" Amelia asked while chewing.
"Nope, you’re free today! Safe and clear!"
"Huh, I’ll go to bed early tonight then!"
"Why? It’s still morning," Isabella asked.
"I mean I’ll just relax tonight!"
"How about we go shopping?"
"Shopping? I don’t have any money!" Amelia replied.
"You do! There’s a card with a pretty large balance on it—your monthly shopping allowance! It’s even more than your debt!" Isabella said.
"Did I hear that right? No! Luca’s probably keeping track of every penny! I’m here to pay off my debt, not add to it!"
"Are you dumb or what? Didn’t you read your contract properly?"
"Contract?"
"Yeah, at the bottom—it lists the benefits of being Luca’s wife! Didn’t you read that part?"
"I read it."
"And?"
"Was that real?"
"Yes, of course! You’re allowed to spend the money on the card Luca provided for this month—as long as you’re his contract wife!" Isabella said firmly.
"What if I use that money to pay off my debt to Luca? So I can be free?"
"That’s not how it works! Oh my God, seriously! The point is, he’s covering your living expenses while you pretend to be his wife—and the money is meant to be spent! It doesn’t count toward your debt! So come on, I’ll take you shopping!"
Amelia's eyes widened, and her face lit up with excitement. "If that's really the case, then let’s go!"
