The incessant ringing of my alarm jerked me up from sleep the next morning.
A quick glance at the wall clock revealed it was exactly 7am.
“Thank goodness,” I murmured, relieved that I hadn’t slept through my alarm.
On arriving at the apartment yesterday, I simply took a shower and went straight to bed, didn't even unpack, explore or anything, just went straight to sleep.. was tired to my bones.
I made sure to set my alarm tho, so I don't oversleep and miss my welcome interview fixed for 9am this morning.
I got out of bed, stretched my arms way above my head and yawned with my mouth wide open.
The morning sunlight was beginning to peek through the white curtains as I made my way to the bathroom and rushed through my morning routine, getting ready for the day.
After my bath, I came out, eager to get dressed for my interview.
Opening my still packed box, I brought out the outfit I had carefully planned for this day.. a sleek, navy-blue pencil skirt paired with a professional-looking white blouse.
The blouse's collar was crisp and well-fitted, complimenting my features, while the skirt hugged my curves perfectly.
I pulled my blonde hair into a neat, professional-looking ponytail, secured with a black hair tie.
Looking in the mirror, I was satisfied with my appearance. I looked confident and ready to take on the day.
Another quick glance at the wall clock showed that it was already 8:00 AM. Time to head to the office.
Grabbing my purse, I headed out the door.
The streets of London bustled with activity, but my nerves were calm and focused.
I called a cab and in a few minutes, as usual, it arrived..
“I hope the company gives me an official car soon till I'm able to get mine.” I thought.
We got on the ride and in less than twenty minutes, we arrived.. As expected, the company was close to my apartment.
I alighted, paid the driver and made my way towards the huge navy blue building with massive wall glasses beautifully arranged on it, giving it an aesthetically pleasing sight.
I took a quick glance at my wristwatch as I caught sight of a cafe very close to the building, about a few walks away, my stomach churned and I remembered I hadn't eaten since I got to London yesterday.
It was just around 8:40am, I thought of branching, at least to get a cup of coffee before heading in so this hunger doesn't end up getting the best of me as I was sure how long the interview would last.
Just as I was about to enter the cafè, a man in a suit, holding a cup of coffee, bumped into my steps at the door causing his coffee to spill over my blouse.
I felt a wave of anger wash over me immediately.. Wtf??
"Excuse me!" I snapped, frustration boiling over. "What the fuck is wrong with you?? Why didn't you wait for me to get through the door first? Look what you've done now! Do you even know the meaning of patience?" I spat as I pointed angrily at the coffee stain on my blouse.
The man, slightly taken aback, stammers an apology. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you.”
"Save your apologies!," I snapped, "just watch where you're going next time, OK? Some of us have places to be!" With that, I brush past him, irritated beyond belief.
If I had stayed longer, I could end up spitting mean words even I wouldn't like to him, as I was so pissed!
How do I do this now? I thought within myself as I turned back from the cafe, my appetite disappeared already so I disposed the thoughts of getting a coffee.
I shouldn't have branched here in the first place!
What a way to start the day.
I couldn't help but wonder what would have been my fate now if I hadn't worn a blazers jacket over my blouse?
My eyes widened as I realized it was already past 9am taking a quick glance at my wristwatch.
My annoyance turned to panic.
I fastened my pace, cursing under my breath at the guy who had delayed me with his irresponsibility.
At last I arrived at the building, hurried inside and up to the reception counter.
I hurriedly introduced myself and followed instructions to the office of my interview.
My pulse thumping in my chest, I knocked on the door and heard an inviting voice calling me inside.
I took a deep breath and walked in slowly, shutting the door behind me.
Turning to face the direction of the voice from earlier, my heart stopped.
The exact guy who had just wrecked my morning was standing behind a big, elaborate desk.
Felt like my blood stopped pumping as our eyes locked.
"Samantha..." he began, his voice low. “Well, this is unexpected.”
His words stopped as he examined me, and I became acutely conscious of the coffee stain on my shirt.
I tried to straighten myself by clearing my throat.
“It.. it seems we've already met." I let out, calmly trying to hide my anxiety.
