Why does my chest hurt

Why does my chest hurt

Saviour's POV

Laughter fills the table at Victor's expense. He acts as though Throne's awful romance jokes don't get to him, but it's pretty obvious they do.

I take a cup of water to wash down the sugary biscuits Nala made specially for me… her pa.
I love it when she calls me that.

Raven chuckles opposite me, clinging to Throne's hand.
Yes, sometimes I still feel like punching his head off but we're cool. Raven would never hurt me like that… and, it's just a touch, nothing there.

But then, why does my chest hurt?

I inhale taking more water to calm myself down. Shit, maybe I worked out too hard? Maybe I really should just punch Throne's head off and get this over with.

“Are you alright?” Victor asks and I shake my head.
“I'm good.” I smile but it immediately drops when Raven hisses in pain. “Raven?”

“Something's wrong?” She winces, jumping off her seat, her hand clutching her chest.
“Fuck, you feel it too?” I mutter, my mind racing with multiple thoughts.
“Nala?! Solan! Amari!... Where's Jace?... I want to see all the kids.”

I still don't understand why she's calling the kids, it's probably something in the food…
Another strong pull right under my heart hits me and I know in that instance that this is not just a diet issue.

Amari runs down and behind her comes Nala.
“What's going on?” Milly asks, holding Nala’s hand, her face half done with a terrible makeup. Certainly my angel's handwork.

“Where's Solan and Jace?” I ask, noting how Victor slowly begins to breathe harder.
“Hey, hey baby calm down.” Throne mutters, pulling him close.
“I'll go check his room.” Victor mutters but barely takes a step before Amari speaks up.

“T..they're not there.” she stutters, her worried eyes falling on me.
Raven tilts her head. “What do you mean they're not there?”
Amari doesn't look away from me. “They fought and Jace usually throws tantrums in the woods so…”

“Oh goddess…” Raven shivers and immediately turns for the door.
“Where exactly do you think they are?” I ask calmly, noticing the building tears in Amari's eyes.

“HELP!... SOMEBODY HELP!”

Everyone immediately heads out at Jace’s voice.

Victor runs up to his son, pulling him into his arms.
My brows furrow as I look around, but there's no sign of Solan.
“Where is he?!” I growl, unable to hide the anger in my tone.
Some guards quickly rush to the scene.
“Where is my son?!” Raven's voice cracks into the night, causing Jace’s swollen eyes to fall on us.

Jace heaves, his lips moving but no words escape. He looks like he's about to pass out.
“What happened?” Victor grabs him by the shoulders, gently shaking him. “Tell me, where’s Solan?”

“I… I tried… I didn’t…” Jace chokes and I have to look away from him so I don't force the words out of him myself. “They took him! They took Solan!” he screams, breaking down in tears as he falls to his knees.

They took Solan…

Dread seizes me. “Who?” I grab the boy myself, my fists curling into his shirt. “WHO TOOK MY SON?”

“I don’t know!” Jace sobs. “I tried… but there were too many… they put him down…”

“No…no, not my baby… gods not my boy…” Raven cries.

Amari’s tears follow soon after as she rushes to Raven's side. “Mom,”
“Inside, Amari! Now!” Raven snaps, her eyes filled with rage.

The girl freezes. “I'm sor…”
“NOW!” Raven’s voice breaks. “Go!” Amari runs, choking on sobs as she flees back into the house.

“Where, did they take him?” I ask Jace, finding it hard to breathe.
“I don’t know!” Jace wails, his whole body covered in cold sweat. “He c..couldn't beat them all b..but he told m..me to r…run…”

“Then fucking tell me where exactly they took him from!” I yell, my eyes burning hot.

“Fucking let him breathe, Sav! He's having a panic attack.” Victor trembles and I know… fuck I know it's not his fault but this is my son!
I roughly push Jace back into his father's arms, my hands trembling.

“East,” Nala stammers. “T..they went east.”

I don't wait for more before dashing into the woods.

Suddenly feeling like throwing up, I stumble through the woods, my nerves heighted. The moment my nose catches his scent, I feel tears well up in my eyes because it's fucking mixed with the smell of blood.

“Saviour,” Raven breaks down and I know she can smell it too.
When I see the blood trail on the floor, my heart stutters, tears welling up in my eyes.
Raven drops to her knees, her shivering hand covering her mouth. “No… no, not my baby. Why? WHY?!”

“Raven,” I kneel fast, gripping her arms tight. Her scared gaze tears me apart. “Listen to me, Solan’s alive. Do you hear me? He’s alive.”

Tears spill down her face. “They have him, Saviour, he must have called for help but we were busy having fun.”

“Raven, we'll find him, I promise. I won't stop searching until I find him.” I growl. “Do you trust me?”

Raven nods through her sobs and I pull her up, needing her to stay strong.

“From the footprints, I'd say at least four intruders were here. They were careful not to leave any trail.” One of the guards with us mutters.

My jaw clenches as I move further into the woods. His scent is faint but it's more than enough.

“SOLAN!” Milly, who'd insisted on following us yells.
I don't blame Victor for staying back. I wouldn't leave my pup in that state either but I'm just so furious, at everything.

“Found something,” Throne grunts ahead, cursing under his breath.
I hurry to his side and sniff on the patch of cloth he found in the dirt.

The stench is unmistakable.

“Knightgale,” I grit out, and although rage still boils hot in my veins, I don't panic as much because if there's anything I'm sure of, it's that Knightgale Pack needs him alive.

“Knightgale,” Raven gasps, pulling at my hand. “It has to be them. They’ve been hovering, waiting for a chance…”

I frown at the piece of cloth. Something doesn't seem right. Why leave a trail so obvious.
“Gafar!” Throne calls and the guard who'd spoken previously rushes over. “Gather the men.” He says, looking at me for approval. The moment I nod, he continues. “We head to Knightgale Pack tonight.”

“Yes Sir!”

If indeed they have my son, I'll make sure to tear down their fucking pack this night.

“And have all remaining, stand guard.” I grit out.
