Chapter 11: Chapter : 11 The Night Hunt

Lyra's POV

The full moon was bright, lighting up the castle grounds. I stood on my balcony, staring out at my kingdom. The land looked peaceful, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Shadows seemed to move in the forests, and the silence felt heavy.

I turned away from the view, my heart beating faster with determination. Tonight, I couldn’t rest. I had to protect my kingdom. I left my chambers and walked to the open sky behind the castle. The cool air touched my skin, but the fire inside me kept me warm.

Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and called on my dragon. The change came quickly. My skin hardened into glowing scales, my hands turned into claws, and my wings stretched wide. When the transformation was done, I roared, a sound that shook the trees and echoed across the kingdom.

With a powerful leap, I took to the skies. The wind rushed against me as I flew over the castle, my wings slicing through the air. I scanned the land below, my sharp eyes searching for anything unusual. Villages were quiet, their lights dimmed. Fields and rivers stretched far, but something in the forests caught my attention.

A faint scent of blood reached me. My heart tightened. Someone was there someone who shouldn’t be. I flew lower, following the scent until I spotted movement in a clearing. My eyes narrowed. Vampires and wolves were gathered, whispering among themselves.

My chest burned with anger. These weren’t just random intruders. They were planning something. They were here for my kingdom. I didn’t hesitate.

With a mighty roar, I dove toward them, fire bursting from my mouth. Flames lit up the clearing, forcing the group to scatter. I landed with a loud thud, my claws digging into the ground.

“Leave now, or face me,” I growled.

The vampires hissed, their red eyes glowing in the firelight. The wolves snarled, baring their teeth. But they underestimated me. I was no ordinary queen. I was a dragon.

One of the wolves charged at me, but I swung my tail, knocking it to the ground. A vampire leaped toward me, but I snapped my jaws, forcing it to back away. The battle began.

They fought hard, but I fought harder. My fire lit up the night, burning their paths and cutting off their retreat. My claws tore through their defenses. They were no match for my strength and speed.

One by one, they fell or ran away, disappearing into the dark forest. I stood there, breathing heavily, my scales glowing faintly in the aftermath of the fight. The clearing was silent again, except for the crackling of burnt trees.

Something shiny on the ground caught my eye. I bent down and picked it up. It was a small emblem with a mark I didn’t recognize. My stomach twisted. This wasn’t over. This attack was planned.

I flew back to the castle, my mind racing. Who had sent them? Why now? When I landed, I shifted back into my human form and headed straight to the great hall. My father was waiting for me, worry written on his face.

“What did you find?” he asked.

“Vampires and werewolf,” I said, holding up the emblem. “They were working together. Someone sent them.”

His expression hardened. “We must act fast. They won’t stop here.”

“We need more patrols,” I said. “And I’ll train harder. I won’t let them harm our kingdom.”

He nodded but placed a hand on my shoulder. “You’ve done well, Lyra, but you must be ready for more. They will come for you because you’re young, because you’re a woman. But show them your strength. Show them you are not just a queen, but a fire dragon.”

His words stayed with me as I returned to my chambers. I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling. My body was tired, but my mind wouldn’t stop.

One thought kept coming back: Kaelen. His voice, his presence it felt so familiar. But why? Could he be part of this? Or was he fighting his own battles?

The questions swirled in my mind, but there were no answers. All I knew was that the fight was far from over, and I had to be ready for whatever came next.

As the smoke cleared from the battlefield, and Lyra stood tall amidst the ashes of her enemies, a shadow moved silently in the trees. Hidden in the darkness, he watched her every move, his piercing eyes tracking her with an intensity that sent chills through the air. He leaned casually against a thick tree trunk, yet his presence radiated power and danger.

She was magnificent fire and fury wrapped in beauty. Her glowing scales shimmered like molten gold under the moonlight, her strength unmatched by anything he’d seen before. She didn’t hesitate, didn’t flinch. Every move she made was calculated, precise, and lethal.

He tilted his head, a smirk curling his lips. “A queen who fights like a warrior,” he murmured, his voice barely audible over the crackle of dying flames. “Interesting.”

His gaze lingered on her, studying her every detail. The curve of her lips as she snarled, the way her fiery eyes burned with determination, and the grace with which she moved even in battle. She wasn’t just any dragon. No, she was special.

The way she fought stirred something primal in him, something he hadn’t felt in centuries. His hand gripped the hilt of his sword, though he had no intention of using it. Not yet. This was not a moment to intervene it was a moment to observe.

As Lyra shifted back into her human form, her regal stance didn’t waver. She stood tall, commanding, even as her chest heaved with exhaustion. He couldn’t tear his eyes away. Her power wasn’t just in her strength or her fire it was in her presence. She radiated authority, and yet there was a softness beneath the surface that intrigued him.

He stepped closer, careful not to make a sound. Her voice carried over the clearing as she spoke to her father, the strength in her words only adding to his fascination. She was a queen who took no mercy, yet she carried the weight of her kingdom on her shoulders with grace.

He stayed in the shadows, his thoughts swirling. She was everything he desired but never thought he’d find. A queen, a warrior, a woman who could match his own strength. He ran a hand through his dark hair, his smirk deepening.

“She doesn’t even know what she’s capable of,” he whispered to himself. “But she will. And when she does, she’ll need someone who can stand beside her. Someone who can challenge her fire with his own.”

His hand moved to his pendant, a dark stone that glimmered faintly in the moonlight. It pulsed against his skin, reacting to the power radiating from Lyra. He felt the pull, a magnetic force that made his chest tighten.

“Lyra,” he said her name softly, as though testing how it felt on his tongue. It sounded perfect.

As she walked back toward the castle, her steps determined and unyielding, he stayed rooted in place, his eyes following her until she disappeared into the distance. A chuckle escaped his lips, low and dangerous.

“You’ll be mine,” he said, his voice laced with promise. “Not just as a queen of your kingdom, but as my queen. My woman.”

The shadows around him seemed to deepen as he turned away, vanishing into the forest as silently as he had appeared. Yet his mind was already made up. He would claim her, not through force, but through something much more powerful his cunning, his charm, and the secrets he carried.

The night was far from over, an

d Lyra had no idea that the true danger was watching her from the shadows.
