Chapter 36 Being a Mafia Lord's Wife
Madison's POV
Soft music blasted through the speakers, lighting the air.
Tuning down the intensity.
For some reason, ever since he set his eyes on Russo Vladimir, a name I couldn't get out of my head, his demeanor had changed.
He wouldn't talk to me or even spare me more than 3 glances.
Sell me off.
The thought suddenly crossed my mind, again. I had tried not to think too much about it but curiosity was eating me up from inside.
The fact he was frowning into empty space for quite sometime during the night, made me so uncomfortable.
It kept me on edge.
Thinking too.
Could he be thinking of selling me off too.
When we got back to the East Coast and into the Compound, he jumped out of the car so fast like if he stayed any more second, it'll kill him
Like my presence irritated him.
"You're back!" Dina smiled, walking up to me. "You look ... Different. There's a glow!"
She raised her eyebrow at me. She had this look I couldn't understand. Like she expected me to spill something.
"What?" I copied her facial expression. My attention got stolen when I caught Alessandro rushing downstairs again. Our eyes meet for split second.
He was the first to turn away.
"I think Alessandro is going to sell me off." I said, sadly. Then I turned to look at Dina.
She chuckled, waving her hand in the air. "What nonsense!"
"I'm serious." I held her hand, stopping her from dragging us to the counter.
"Madison, have you heard the way that man claims you?" She scoffed. "It's impossible for him to sell you off to just anyone. Where did you even get that information from?"
I covered her mouth. "Shhhh. People will hear."
"Sorry, sorry." She nodded slowly, looking around.
I sighed, pulling her to the counter. I looked around before calling the name like it was some sacred shit. "Russo Vladimir."
Dina froze for a while, her face color had drained.
"Ru...Russo told you? Wait, Russo saw you?"
"He said he wanted Don Alessandro to sell me to him." I said, my body shrieked.
The thought alone was disgusting.
He was okay in the handsomeness department but compared to Don Alessandro, he'd need to take more classes on both looks and physique.
Don Alessandro was way hotter.
Like a Greek god.
Urgh! I was thinking about him again.
"That isn't good. I wonder how Alessandro would be feeling right now." Dina paced back and forth.
"W..why?"
"You see, Russo and Ales are and have been Archenemy. All Russo knows how to do is fight Ales. It's like a power tussle thingy. Mafia men." She rolled her eyes. "It was always brutal on both ends."
His darkened eyes and protective stance when he saw him all made sense
"Russo used to be his best buddy while growing up until he craved everything Ales had and started rivaling." Dina explained further.
"Oh." I nodded slowly, comprehending the information.
"Do you both mind me cutting in?" A sweet feminine tone interrupted. Only to turn to Claudia attempting to smile sweetly at me.
Where the hell did she learn that tone from? It didn't suit her.
"Good day, ma'am." Dina quickly greeted, standing straight.
I repeated after Dina but in a bored tone. She was probably here to scold me or something.
"Take a stroll with me?" Claudia looked at me.
Unsure, I turned back to Dina and then to Claudia. "Me?" I placed my hand on my chest.
"Except you don't want to?" Claudia raised her eyebrow at me.
"Uh... S-sure. Lead the way." I forced a smile onto my lips, following her out slowly.
"How was your trip with Alessandro? Did you enjoy it?" She asked, leading me out of the Manor but not out of the compound.
The Manor was not only huge but spacious inside. You could build another house in those spaces and it wouldn't even drag space with the Manor itself.
"Florida was beautiful." I kept my reply short and simple because I didn't know what she was aiming at and I had to be careful.
"How about my nephew? Did you enjoy having him away from Kat and all to yourself too?" Her eyes flamed up in anger for a split second and then she slapped a smile on her face.
Like I wouldn't notice.
Left to me, I'd have preferred staying locked up in my room, drowning in my thoughts.
Much better than forcing yourself to have a conversation you don't want to.
"Your nephew was there to work and that was what he did." I watched her as she sat down on the chair.
There was this place outside the Manor that had this small romantic couple outdoor setting. Wooden chairs and tables, under a simple wooden hut shaped structure with a minimal decoration.
It was like a sit out.
"Calculated response." She smirked at me, gesturing at the chair. "Sit."
I exhaled heavily, pulling out the seat and then dropping my ass. Against my inner will.
"You know, I noticed that you seem to have some sort of relationship with the Don. One that's not so common." She frowned slightly, unpleased.
"A servant and master relationship." I added.
"Something more. It's not mere servant and master relationship because then he wouldn't propose to keep you after his father adviced him not to. In fact, he even proposed to -" She paused, taking in a long breath and exhaling softly, gradually.
I would've loved to hear the remaining sentence. Ever since I came into this house, my curiosity had grown too high.
I wanted to know everything.
"That has nothing to do with me though." I muttered under my breath.
I said so because I wasn't the one who asked him to do whatever he was doing. He was acting on his own accord.
"Oh trust me, it has everything to do with your presence. You just... You just changed everything." She crumpled her hands into a fist.
I pressed my lips into a thin line after I had noticed her mood switch.
She was getting paranoid.
"You may think being the wife to a Mafia Lord is sweet." Claudia said calmly, a mocking smile plastered on her face.
I never said I wanted to be the wife of a Mafia Lord.
"Yes, you'd be respected among your peer group but never accepted if you're from a poor background." She eyed me.
What has this got to do with me?
"You'd be protected but can you stand the constant life threat? You'd be pointed gun at your face, you'd be tied up and beaten to a pulp by his enemies once caught slipping." She smirked evilly.
"You go through that too?" The question slipped out of my lips as I stared at her confused.
Her eyes went wide a bit, her tongues tied for a while.
"This is not about me." She threw me a glare. I nodded in understanding.
Then who was it about then because I never said I wanted to marry a Mafia Lord and didn't as well ask for all these unnecessary informations.
"Getting married to a Mafia Lord subjects you to his control. You must do whatever he tells you to do. You'd do things against your will."
Even as a servant, we face this. I wanted to tell her but decided against it.
She folded her arms, her evil glint on. "You'd even have to fuck different men to retrieve information for your husband, if you must."
Now that made my body shiver.
"Exactly. You'd be made to please as many men and women as possible. That is what being a Mafia Lord's wife entails and it's not for the weak heart."
She gave me a concerned look, her eyes dull. "And you don't deserve that life, Madison."
I don't.
That was such a cruel life to live in. You wouldn't have to do things out of your own volition but of others.
There were really no much difference between a slave and a Mafia Lord's wife. The only difference was that you gain respect and protection.
Privacy. Nil.
But I had one question.
"Why are you telling me all these? Why not Kat?" I asked in deep confusion, creasing my eyebrow.
"Kat is on another league. You cannot compare her life to yours because she's from a well respected family and her husband wouldn't be able to treat her lesser than how she's being treated in her father's kingdom." She shot at me, her tone sharp.
"That's perfect then."
"It is but we have a little problem." She smiled fakely at me.
"What?"
"It's you. You have to be out of the picture." She pointed at me, her teeth gritted as she spoke.
I swallowed ...hard.
"Out of the picture?"
What picture?
"Lord Bianchi Igor, Alessandro's father can grant whatever requests you make if you agree to leave Alessandro." Her face was serious.
Ah. This again.
But I wasn't holding Alessandro. From what was being said, he was the one holding me.
"I just have to agree and he'd grant anything I want?" I asked carefully, wanting be sure of what I heard.
"Anything at all." She smiled up at me.
I needed so many things. I needed to be far away from here and from my father. I needed money to start over. I needed freedom.
But it was too late.
I had already been put out there for different predators to sniff me out and devour my flesh.
Bracing myself up, I stared back at her face, eagerly waiting for my response.
"I need Alessandro's permission to leave." I leaned forward, watching her shocked expression. "Tell Don Igor, I said so."
So many things had changed. They all didn't know.
It was hard to leave now.
