Chapter 24 Who you belong to
Madison's POV
"You asked for it." Stefan said in a sing song tone as he dropped me on the cold floor, a groan leaving my lips.
I cowered - in disappointment. I couldn't do anything right. I was given the opportunity to run and I just couldn't ace it.
I sneezed hard when a strong smell of dust, entered into my nostrils.
"Don't leave here until the Don comes or else he'd have your head in replacement of hers." Stefan warned the guard.
The mention of Don Alessandro brought cold chills to my body. I didn't want to face him at all. Heck, I didn't even know what he'd do to me.
This was very bad.
When the door slammed, I looked up. The room looked abandoned and there was this awful smell that lingered in the air. It made me gag. I scrunched my nose up in disgust.
The small light bulb flickered, giving weak power supply to the room. My skin itched me as I watched the spiders crawl up the walls.
The creak of the door had me raising my head up, regretting it immediately as my eyes landed on those dark ones but surprisingly, they seemed calm.
I expected storm in those eyes. I expected him to walk in and slap me or just hurt me but there he was, tucking his hand in his pocket as he stared at me - his eyes empty.
"Madison, Madison, Madison." He called, closing the door behind him. "It seems you love daring me."
I shook my head, looking down.
"What was that? No?" His foot tapped the floor carefully, slowly, as he approached me. "Look at me." He growled like a bear, making me flinch.
I shot my head up without being told twice. His eyes were cold and sinister. The calmness was gone.
"You dare run away from me?" He crouched down to my level, holding my chin up.
I swallowed hard, not knowing how to react. My mouth felt dry.
"How dare you fucking run away from me!" He yelled in my face, letting it out. Just like I had long expected.
He looked really monstrous right now, his raging steaming out his skin.
"I.. I didn't think you'd notice." That was a stupid thing to say but I figured I just had to say anything before he removed my teeth from being too quiet.
He scoffed, frowning. "Have you seen where a pet owner forgets he has a pet? It doesn't happen, Maddie." His voice was terrifyingly smooth, like he was discussing the weather.
"Why'd you come after me? You don't even care about me like that." The words flew out of my mouth before I could stop them.
Straight from the heart.
His grip on my chin tightened. "What did you fucking say?" He looked into my eyes, his dark as hell.
I was going to piss on myself but I had to say it anyway. "I said, you don't even care about me. So I put it to you now, Don, do you care about me?"
His shoulder tensed, his jaw ticking like a bomb. His grip suddenly loosened. Slowly, he brought down his hands, looking at me with an expression I couldn't decipher.
"You can't answer me right?" I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
He stood up, looking down at me. "You're right. I shouldn't care about you." He brought out his gun and a cuff from his pocket. "I don't care..." He paused for a while, only his chest heaved up and down. His eyes collided with mine and there I saw it - a glint of resentment before he completed his sentence. "... about You."
My lips parted as I panted. His words scorched right there - in my chest. A bitter, metallic taste flooded my mouh. I nodded slowly, laughing at myself in my heart.
I knew the answer. I was so stupid for asking.
"But you know what? I don't like to lose sight of my property, my asset." He crouched down to my level again, placing the tip of the gun under my chin.
I exhaled sharply, looking at him. My eyes had begun to water. I didn't want to die.
"I....I didn't want to run."
"Of course you didn't. You just wanted to see what Don Alessandro can do. If he can really harm the world to bring you back, just like he said he would." He played with a part of the gun that kept clicking and unclicking.
It wasn't the trigger. I think it was the safety. He played with it like it was some toy - like my life was something to be played with.
"No. No. I just felt that this wasn't my world and -"
"You think outside is your world? Have a fucking rethink! You have been outside there and see what they did to you. They hurt you badly. It's all on your fucking body - their marks." He yelled, his tone hard. The words sounded heavy for him to speak but he forced them out regardless.
I swallowed hard because I knew he was saying the truth.
"Or maybe I should just help you fucking end it. If you don't want to be here and I don't want you to be out there then -"
"No!" I cut him, shaking my head as the tears fell down. "I may have taken Kat's help, thinking it was good enough and I am to blame for letting her get into my head but I am sorry, Don. I really am."
"You stole from her and you fucking ran away. Don't fucking lie to me, Madison. She told me everything." He eyed me in disgust
My mouth fell open as I looked at him in shock. "I... I didn't. I didn't steal from Kat. She knew... She let me."
He froze for a while, looking at me. "You're not lying to me?"
"I swear."
"How do you expect me to fucking believe what you say now." He stood up abruptly, shutting his eyes for a while. "I have to teach you a lesson. I have given you too much privilege and it's ends now. I have to stop being soft."
He had never been soft on me. What was he saying?
"I have to teach you a lesson, Maddie. Teach you how we Mafia do things because whether you like it or not, you're part of us now." He opened his eyes, staring at me. His grip on the gun tightened and then his hand moved upwards slowly until they stopped in my face.
"No please. I promise I'll listen to you." I rubbed my palm together, begging him. My lips quivered as tears continued to stream down my cheeks. "Please!"
He doesn't say anything, his fingers rested on the trigger. I was scared to stand up because I didn't know if he'd shoot me too.
"Noooo!" I yelled loudly when his fingers finally pulled the trigger, the loud sound of gunshot echoing in the room. My breath seized, my eyes shut close instinctively.
He killed me.
Alessandro shot me.
Soft pants left my lips as I waited for the pain.
"Open your eyes." Alessandro whispered, his hot breath fanning my face.
Quickly, I shot my eyes open. "I'm... I'm alive?" I touched my body, looking at my palm.
No sign of blood.
"I'd rather fuck you to death." He rolled his eyes at me. A click sound was heard from the ground, making me look down. "You're my prisoner now."
What?
"What do you m-mean?" I shook my hand, trying to break free but the irons were strong. It was a handcuff for a reason.
He stood up again, walking towards the door. Where was he going?
"You will be starved of good food. You'd sleep on cold floor. You'd not bathe or talk to anyone or breathe good air." As he listed these things out, a fat rat ran across the room, making me scream.
My heart rummaged in my chest. "Jesus!"
I couldn't stay here. I hated rats.
"And yeah. Those would be your new roommates." He smirked at me. "This punishment seems easy, don't you think?"
I shook my head. "I'd take any other punishment but this please."
He wasn't listening, he was done talking.
"Maybe after this you'd learn who you belong to and who you'd take orders from."
Then a loud bang rang in the building, following a loud shatter of glass and just like that...
Everywhere blacked out.
