Chapter 105 One of Yours
Luciano soon adjourned the meeting, keeping his cool till he was out of the conference room and back in his office.
"One of yours!", he read yet again as he wondered if the message really meant what he actually thought it did.
If it did, it meant one of his men was indeed feeding information to rival groups.
He knew not to act rashly till he got something from his tech guys.
In the brief moment, he needed to have a conversation with Andreas, and he would be doing that in his office.
Afterall, soundproofing his space wasn't for fun.
He quickly sent a message to Andreas as he fiddled with the small paper in his hand.
"I think something's up!", Luciano heard Andreas say as he closed the door behind him.
"Why do you say so?!", Luciano asked, wondering what Andreas had picked up on.
"Why are we suddenly getting a burner phone from a random person?
I keep watching the footage hoping to get a lead, but I don't get anything!", Andreas explained.
"Not even tattoos on display to get a group or something?!", Luciano asked, quite riled from the turn of events.
"Absolutely nothing so far!", Andreas said.
"Talk with Aldo, see if they can trace his movements back to where he came from!", Luciano ordered, bringing up a valid point.
"Here...!", he drawled as he passed the paper he'd been fiddling with to Andreas.
"Why are you giving me a piece of paper?!", Andreas asked, confirming Luciano's thoughts.
Even he wasn't aware.
Andreas' expression rapidly moved from confusion to shock as soon as he unfolded the paper.
"One of yours!"
It was cryptic, but they already knew what it meant.
They didn't need to be told, someone was feeding information from the inside.
"Question is, who is the insider feeding information to?!", Luciano said as he had been thinking about it.
"A better question is the identity of this insider!
I thought we took care of them all in Venice?!", Andreas asked back, equally puzzled.
"Seems so!
What if they are more?
Or there's a connection?
Or there's a whole lot of them pining for my position?!", Luciano asked back again, already stressing from the unravelling.
"I think we need to do something!", Andreas said, suddenly getting a bright idea to understand what or who they were up against.
"This...", he drawled as he picked up the piece of paper.
"This was a clear warning! So I think we should act on it!
I'm going to run up background checks on the men in the mean time.
See what they've individually been up to the last few months.
Find connections if possible and see...!", Andreas was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Sharing a look with Luciano, he approached the door, his hand on his holster as he prepared.
The abrupt knock put him and Luciano on edge, thus the safety measure.
It literally could be anyone.
He opened the door, quite surprised to see Aldo with a status report.
"That was quick!", Andreas said, already guessing from the paper in Aldo's hand.
"There wasn't much to begin with!", Aldo said, walking into Luciano's office.
"Why?
What happened?!", Luciano asked, intrigued by Aldo's sentence.
"It's a burner phone!
Most information on it had already been wiped!
But I was able to get the assembly location!", Aldo said as he took a seat.
"Where?!"
"Where's that?!", Luciano and Andreas asked at the same time.
"Venice!", Aldo said.
Luciano and Andreas shared a look as they had literally been taking about the same location before Aldo knocked.
"Keep this between us in the meantime!", Luciano ordered.
"Yes Don!", Aldo said.
"Also! Let me have that!
Burn any other physical copy and delete any soft copies in the database!", Luciano said as Aldo passed the copy he had to him.
"Yes Don
I'll do that right away!", Aldo said as he left Luciano's office.
"Something's going on in Venice and we need to find out!", Luciano said as soon as Aldo was out of the office.
"We need discreet eyes in Venice!", Andreas said, offering a solution.
"Or a bait!", Luciano refuted.
"What does that mean?!", Andreas asked.
"Instead of going to them, why don't we draw them out, bait them and put an end to whatever charade this is!", Luciano answered.
"How are we going to do that?!", Andreas asked.
"The guy that dropped this off...!", Luciano drawled as he pointed toward the piece of paper that had him on edge.
"Go back to Aldo to find him! We need to get answers from him first!", Luciano said.
Andreas wasted no time in going back to Aldo to relay Luciano's order.
\~~~
The burner phone?
The MO of Mia's anonymous caller and Sebestian's last contractor.
Mia had everything to do with the mess Luciano had just been tipped about.
Luciano and Andreas having no idea that the answers they thought were in Venice were right under their noses the whole time.
Marco would have had no trouble placing her involvement in the mess if he knew the entirety of what was going on.She remained feeding information to her anonymous caller.
This anonymous caller being Sebestian's last contractor remained oblivious to Nico's plans of revenge.
He personally was going to make sure Luciano caught on to them.
He just had to know the actual Identity of this anonymous caller.
The lady in question continued to dwell in Luciano's mansion, acting like the helper she was hired to be.
She laughed with Madam Paula and continued to lead Andreas on falsely.
She fitted into the mansion too well and adopted lifestyle choices which wouldn't make her a suspect.
Alas, the plans she was involved in. Plans she had been patiently waiting to execute.
Her schemes would only last a certain period, as Marco, one of Luciano's men, was deathly onto her.
Her relationship to Venice would become apparent as Luciano would soon find he didn't completely finish the betrayers off.
