Chapter 138: Labour

Sparkle

By morning we were at the Rouge Moon pack house. The gates were quickly opened to let Lucy and me through. I’m not sure if Lucy had informed anyone about our arrival, but there were lots and lots of maids in the courtyard and in the driveway waiting for us.

My pup began kicking and kicking. I placed my hand on my abdomen trying to restore calm there. But then I started feeling the contractions. What? Am I due already? I felt it the first time and then I felt it again.

The door flung open, and a manservant helped me get out of the car. As he assisted me to the pack house, I turned around and saw Lucy seated in the car with her arms folded.

“Are you not coming?” I asked under extreme exhaustion. She only shook her head and walked back to the front door, “I don’t want to see Dalton ever again,” she answered and got in the car. She waved and drove out of the compound. Dalton met me in the parlor of the pack house, he took my hand and helped me sit on one of the couches. Then he sat beside me.

“I want to hug you so badly but you are in pain already.”

“How did you know that?” I exclaimed.

“I can feel that you’re going through something, our pup is ready for the world.” He replied.

I hit him on the chest with tears in my eyes, “After everything I’ve been through, why weren’t you out there to welcome me?” I burst into tears, recounting how I had suffered just trying to get back home.

He hugged the upper part of my body and gently patted my back. “As part of my duties as the alpha burying my family member, I need to be in the front seat. But I can’t bear to sit in front and watch Ronald get buried so I stood on my porch to observe the ceremony.”

I pushed him back, “Did you have the funeral here?”

“Yes we did, we had to.” He replied.

“But why? That guy was so evil to you!” I yelled as I felt another contraction.

“First of all, I organized it because I wanted to be sure that he was truly dead and buried. I also needed to fulfil my duties to the pack,”

“So is that why you abandoned me and focused on this?” I yelled again. I was getting angrier with each passing minute but I knew it was because of the contractions.

“I never abandoned you, Spark, I have been looking for you since you went missing but along the line, Ronald came in and kept attacking me. I had to fight him so I could create a safe environment for you and the family we’re going to be raising together,”

His explanation made sense yet it infuriated me, but before I could lash out at him again he scooped me up in his arms and rushed me upstairs laying me down on the bed. I noticed that this room had been set up already with all the things I would need for delivery. And before I could ask any questions, he had already started explaining.

“The snowstorms are getting very crazy out there, and I wanted to keep you safe, so I got this room equipped with all you will need for delivery,”

I forced a smile despite the increasing pain I was experiencing, I wanted to roll on the floor but that was literally not possible. He rolled a Swiss ball and tried to help me get on it.

“The doctors are on their way. In the meantime, let’s do some exercises, to ease the pain.” He gently said.

I glared at him trying to push him away, I was in pain, and exercise was the last thing I wanted to hear about but he gently held on to me. He clasped my face between his palms and gently spoke to me to try and calm me down but I wasn’t calm at all, I needed some relief for my pain. I hugged him and tried to hold back my tears,

“I want my mother,” I wept.

“Hmmm” I heard him sigh, I understood that reaction, my parents literally abandoned me after I decided to be with Dalton and they still hadn’t come to terms with it the last time I heard from them so I was asking for the impossible. But I needed my mom, she’s done this before, she had me and my sisters. She may not be my best friend but she’s my mother.

“I wish my mom was alive.” Dalton suddenly said, and rested his head on my shoulder, that was him being vulnerable, I’ve never seen this side of him before. Now I was feeling bad for him, so I stroked his head gently and allowed him to catch a break.

“I will try and call your parents, I hope they answer this time and I hope they will be kind to us.” He got up and reached for his phone, and dialed. We both sat down quietly, listening to the ringback tone. After what seemed like an eternity she finally answered.

“Mrs. Engler?”

“Hello, may I please know who I’m speaking to?” Her shaky voice replied. Dalton and I exchanged worried glances.

“It’s me, Dalton Roux.” He replied, "I could hear my mother sigh on the other end of the phone, “Sparkle wants to talk to you.”

I exploded into tears, “Mom! I just want you here” There was a brief moment of silence,

“Sparkle? What’s going on? Where are you guys? You know it’s a snowstorm outside, I hope you’re not stuck somewhere unsafe?” She started to rant.

“I’m home with Dalton, I’m about to have a baby. Please be here for me.” I pleaded with her.

“So you were pregnant all along? I knew! How could you do this to us Sparkle? You know how messed that family is, they have succeeded in annihilating themselves.”

“It’s already too late for this warning, will you come and see me or not?” I impatiently demanded as I wiped my tears with the back of my hands. There was a long pause and as I sat there waiting for an answer, my tears freely flowed down my face. Some of them were from pain I was feeling from my contractions and half of them were probably from my hormones because I expected my mom to say no, so would that make me cry? Dalton knelt before me and rested my head on his shoulder, stroking my hair while I sobbed.

“Sparkle,” my mom said, “will you stop crying? I’m ready to come, send me your location. I will let your dad check if it’s safe to leave the house yet.” She said as my eyes lit up. Dalton quickly brought the phone to his mouth,

“Don’t worry about that Mrs. Engler. If you’re ready to come, let me send my driver to you as soon as possible,”

“Sure, come for us then,” she replied as my heart leapt for unstoppable joy.
