Chapter 3: Desperate Little Lamb

“LOOK who we have here. I remember telling your mother not to let you near me, but here you are, running towards me right now. Sylvia should have tied you if she could. She should have known that it would never be the wolf’s fault if he eats the lamb who came on to him,” Blaze muttered as he watched Sylvia’s innocent little princess ran towards his direction.

Now that Blaze had found Sylvia, he made sure not to lose her this time. He had eyes and ears surrounding her entire family through his servants. With each step her family take, he made sure that he would be three steps ahead although he had no plans of seeing Mikaela tonight. He had just gone to a Council meeting and was on his way home when he had a glimpse of her. It seemed like this time; fate was drawing them together.

When Blaze walked to meet Mikaela halfway, he glanced the lights from the electric posts and the nearby buildings. They broke one by one which scared the humans. They screamed and ran away. And because of his ominous aura, the birds in the area become weak and fell on the ground.

Blaze had made the surrounding foggy for Mikaela to tease her a little as she ran away from another human who was chasing her like a dog until she tripped over the bodies of the birds on the ground and fell. He stopped walking when he was only a step away from her.

What should I do to you, my pretty little lamb? Shall I devour you now? He muttered as she clung to his pants. He could kill her right here, right now. He could send her body to Sylvia as a gift afterwards. Why must he bother playing with her and her mother when he could end this game as soon as possible?

Blaze could get his revenge now. Mikaela’s body was so thin that he could take away her life so effortlessly. But his evil thoughts vanished the moment Mikaela lifted her head to meet his eyes.

All of a sudden, Blaze found himself out of breath while staring at her eyes which were now brimming with tears. She was looking at him as if he was her only hope. How odd when he came here to end her life. His brows furrowed. He did not know why but when their eyes locked, he could not look away. It was like there was an invisible force drawing his eyesight only to her. And he realized he did not want to see her bloody and lifeless body tonight.

I guess I will do it next time, Blaze told himself as he bent his knee to look at Mikaela closely.

“Please save me,” she said in a croaky voice.

“Oh. All right.”

This woman was his target. He was his alone. Of course, he would not let anyone else take her.

“Who the hell are you to interfere? Are you the reason why Mikaela turned me down? You bastard! I’m going to kill you!” her stalker dog barked once again. If Blaze remembered it right, this pesky dog had a name, and it was Landon. He overheard it when Mikaela had tried to talk some sense into Landon a while ago but since the latter proved to be the lowest type of dog, he had failed to understand a thing about human language.

Now bored, Blaze whirled his head toward the dog’s direction. Landon was still busy barking. He released his pants from Mikaela’s grip and stood up. He stepped closer to Landon. The guy suddenly looked intimidated and yet, he insisted on attempting to hit Blaze with his punch. He must commend this brat. No human had ever tried hitting him before.

Blaze easily caught Landon’s hand and twisted it which had him yelling in pain. He was already weak and slow as a human, but under the drug’s influence, he was weaker and slower.

“I have no time for you. Go away,” Blaze said as he flicked Landon’s forehead. The guy flew to the electric post and fainted. “How pathetic.”

He doesn’t usually fight just anybody, but since Landon was acting like a real spoiled brat, he had to make an exception. He shrugged before he went back to Mikaela. She was still trembling while hugging herself.

“Hey, he’s gone now,” Blaze said nonchalantly.

The woman looked up to meet his gaze. His brows furrowed once again when more tears filled her eyes. Why the heck was she crying again? It was his first time dealing with a human. He didn’t know that it was this easy to make them cry. Sylvia may be a scaredy cat in the past, which was a little awkward for a Vampire, but she did not cry this much before.

Blaze leaned closer to Mikaela and touched her tears. He had long forgotten about human emotions. All he could distinguish clearly now was this seething anger that had been bottled up in his chest for quite some time now. That’s why this felt new to him.

To Blaze’s surprise, Mikaela grabbed him by the nape and embraced him. His body tightened when he felt her soft and warm body against his skin. “I don’t know what you did, Sir, but thank you. Thank you for saving me.”

When their bodies touched, her heat seeped through him. It was quickly spreading through his veins. And he had this sudden desire to drown himself in her softness, in her unfamiliar warmth.

When she released him, a sweet smile curved her lips. It was a sight that made his chest felt full and tight. He held his chest. What was this feeling? This human was making him feel things… strange things.

Mikaela looked like she was about to say more but did not get the chance to do it when she passed out. Blaze just looked at her, still astounded. After a while, he shook his head. He realized he liked her warmth. Maybe he could prolong this game a little more.

You got it wrong, little lamb. I only said I will save you from him. But I did not say I would save you from myself. Blaze glanced at Landon and smirked. This was not how he planned on meeting Mikaela again. Nevertheless, this worked in his favor.

Thanks, dog. You made things easier for me. If you didn’t go mad and chased Mikaela like a goddamn fool, I would probably still be planning on how I could make a nice entrance in her life. Thanks to you, I’ve just become her Knight in shining armor.
