Chapter 135

Seacliff Castle.

David woke up and it was already past ten in the morning.

Laser was standing guard outside his door. When David came out, Laser smiled and asked, "Boss, what are we doing today?"

David grabbed his phone, stretched, and said straight out, "Nothing to do. Just having fun."

Laser followed close behind and asked, "When are we going after Flame Demon?"

David walked over to the dining table and sat down, smiling. "After I'm done having fun. By the way, Flame Demon hasn't been causing any trouble lately, has he?"

Laser grinned and said, "He wouldn't dare. That guy's been a total coward lately. After you took out several of his Dark Envoys, I think he's been scared out of his mind ever since."

Hearing that, David calmly started eating while checking his phone. "If that's the case, what's the rush? Why do I have so many missed calls?"

David counted over a dozen missed calls on his phone and couldn't help but feel surprised. He started going through them carefully. Elizabeth had called four times, Ava three times, and Mason twice. On top of the Perez family, Mia had also called five times.

David didn't overthink it and called Elizabeth first.

The moment the call connected, before he could say a word, Elizabeth said coldly, "What? Weren't you ghosting me? What made you decide to call back now?"

David gave a bitter smile and said, "Ghosting you? Why would I do that? I was sleeping this morning. I just woke up."

Elizabeth snapped, "Where were you hanging around last night?"

David said casually, "Do you really have to talk to me like that first thing in the morning? Just tell me why you called. If it's nothing, go ahead and get back to whatever you're doing."

Elizabeth let out a cold snort. Even through the phone, David could feel her frustration. "What would I possibly need from you? Who do you think you are? You're so busy all the time. Even if someone killed me, I wouldn't want to disturb your rest, would I?"

David was completely speechless. He hadn't even done anything to upset her.

"Beautiful Ms. Perez, I'll say it one more time — just say what you need to say. You called me this morning. What is it?"

Elizabeth shot back, "Have you forgotten what you told the Cooper family yesterday?"

David thought about it for a moment. But then again, both Max and Violet had already agreed to come and apologize to Elizabeth yesterday. What kind of scheme could they possibly pull off?

"What? They didn't show up?" David asked.

Elizabeth said plainly, "They came."

David smiled and said, "Did they say something rude to you after they arrived, or cause a scene at your place?"

Elizabeth answered, "No."

David was completely lost for words. Without thinking, he said, "So they showed up and didn't cause any trouble. Why are you talking to me like this?"

Elizabeth said bluntly, "Weren't you even worried they might come over and make a scene?"

David laughed out loud. "Do you really think they had the nerve to do that? I can guarantee you, no matter how bold the Cooper father and daughter are, they wouldn't dare start any trouble at your place today."

Elizabeth snorted again. "But what if you were wrong? What if you misjudged them and they came to the Perez family home today to cause trouble? You didn't answer my calls. Were you just going to let them walk all over me?"

David was completely baffled.

"David, I thought you were being so shameless about getting a marriage certificate with me because you actually cared about me. But now it seems like I don't mean much to you at all."

David laughed out of frustration and said, "I'm not going to argue with you first thing in the morning. If you have something to say, say it now. If not, I'm sure you've got a busy afternoon ahead of you. And if you're ever in danger, just call me directly."

Elizabeth seemed determined to be completely unreasonable. The moment David finished talking, she said flatly, "I called you. Did you pick up?"

Without a second of hesitation, David hung up.

Laser noticed the look of irritation on David's face and carefully asked, "Boss, what's wrong? You don't look too happy."

David took a bite of his breakfast, drew a deep breath, and pushed down his frustration. "That woman. The more you put up with her, the worse she gets. If I reach out to her first after this, I'm an idiot."

With that, David ignored Laser and called Mia instead.

Just as David was calling Mia, back at the Perez family home —

Elizabeth thought back to how things used to be. She had never even needed to reach out to David first — whenever he had time, he would contact her on his own. And whenever she did call, no matter how busy he was, he would always pick up right away. But now, after they'd gotten the marriage certificate, David's whole attitude toward her had changed. Could Ava have been right — that David had gotten close to her with some hidden agenda?

But then she thought about it again, and that didn't make sense either. At first, they had all thought David had no job and no money. But as they'd spent more time around him lately, they realized the guy actually had money. And as for work, he was now the security department manager at Hill Enterprises. In Seabrook, David was actually a pretty impressive young man.

"Fine. He actually hung up on me. If I ever reach out to him first again, I'm an idiot." At that moment, Elizabeth made her own silent vow.

Compared to Elizabeth's cold attitude, Mia was almost over-the-top warm toward David.

"My dear Mr. Jones, did you just wake up? I hope my calls didn't disturb your rest?"

David immediately got goosebumps and quickly said, "Ms. Wilson, please stop right there. Talk normally. Don't do that sweet little voice thing — I can't handle it."

Mia laughed and went back to her usual tone. "Alright, alright, just messing with you. Are you free today?"

David asked, "For what?"

Mia smiled and said, "To eat, what else? I'm not going to invite you to get a hotel room with me — you'd never go for that."

David laughed without missing a beat. "Who said I wouldn't? If you're asking right now, I'm in."
