Chapter 5 005
~LYKA~
I tried to appear strong as I waited for the man’s words, but deep down, I knew I was losing it. I was too scared to even think straight.
Was he going to reject me?
I didn’t understand why I had been so bold as to ask him that question in the first place.
My chest hammered violently against my rib cage as I waited for his reply, and I couldn’t explain why I had this crushing feeling that he was going to refuse.
“He is not going to reject us,” Alexia whispered in my head, and I scoffed inwardly, knowing that wasn’t true..
I knew it was the wish of every wolf to meet their mate and spend the rest of their lives with them, but mine was different. I was not mated to someone I could plan a future with.
He was my nightmare.
He was the man who had locked us up for a long time and maltreated us as though we were nothing more than trash. I couldn’t figure him out, no matter how hard I tried.
“Who are you to question me?” he asked coldly, and I scoffed, wondering if he even understood what being mates meant..
It meant we were equals.
It meant I was his other half.
“I do not think…” I began, but before I could finish my sentence, a man barged into the room. When I looked at him closely, I could tell from his aura and composed stance that he was the Beta of the pack.
“Alpha, there is something you should know,” the man said, casting a puzzled glance at me, clearly wondering why a tattered girl stood in the Alpha’s office.
I saw Derrick’s expression turn grave as his eyes flickered toward me.
“Await my response,” he said curtly, dismissing me.
I noticed the reluctant look in his eyes as he watched me walk toward the door, but I brushed it off immediately, convincing myself I was imagining things. Why would he look at me like that?
I left his office in a daze, countless thoughts racing through my mind, but I was sure of one thing… things were going south.
My plan had been to escape from this hellhole, not get trapped in it. So why wasn’t it working? Why did everything feel like it was slipping straight down the drain?
No matter the situation, I knew one thing for certain: I had to get my pack out of here before we were turned into slaves.
But Alexia’s voice broke into my thoughts.
“Or you could become the Luna and bring about change in the…” she started, but I cut her off angrily.
“Don’t you dare even think of that,” I roared internally, and I heard her purr in anger. I sighed heavily, unable to believe that our reunion had started with an argument.
I didn’t know what was happening to me. I was confused, and being slapped with this sudden reality was more painful than I had expected.
What is going to happen to me now that he has found me?
The thought refused to leave my mind, even though the answer stared me right in the face.
I watched as a woman dressed in something scandalously close to nothing strutted toward us, her hips swaying exaggeratedly. I wondered if that was how the rest of the pack dressed—half-naked and shameless.
“Ma’am Kira,” the guard said respectfully, bowing his head.
I merely shrugged, not even sparing the woman a second glance.
“What are you doing here, you bloody rogue?” she screeched. “And what the hell are you doing without a silver chain wrapped around your arms?”
I rolled my eyes, wondering why she was so unnecessarily dramatic.
Why did I keep running into stupid people like this? Did arrogance run in this pack?
“I don’t think I’m in any position to answer that,” I said calmly, “but if I were you, I’d start by finding something decent to wear.”
She gasped audibly, her mouth falling open, but I didn’t care. She deserved it.
“How dare you speak to me like that?” she snapped, her voice darkening as she raised her hand to slap me.
“What are you doing?”
The voice came from behind her. I looked up to see a handsome man whose face I didn’t recognize. His presence alone made the guards stiffen, and the woman instantly shrank back in fear.
Who is he? I wondered, noticing how everyone seemed intimidated by him.
“Walk her back,” he ordered coldly, gesturing toward me.
The guard dragged me away without hesitation, likely to deal with the woman afterward.
“How dare you be smug to her?” the guard hissed through gritted teeth.
I smirked, already guessing what was going on.
“What?” I shrugged. “Do you like her? She doesn’t look like someone interested in fing an omega. What are you going to do?”
His jaw clenched in fury.
“I should rip your mouth apart,” he growled.
I smiled.
It was nice to know I could still get under people’s skin.
As we walked back toward the cell, my eyes carefully surveyed the pack house. I tried to assess how guarded the place was, but since we were never allowed outside, I couldn’t get a full view.
I bit my lip in frustration. The security was tight… escaping wouldn’t be easy.
“This will be hard,” I muttered.
The guard glanced at me strangely, and I lowered my head quickly. But then I noticed a group of people decorating the fields nearby, and my eyes glinted with interest.
“What’s happening over there?” I asked casually.
He glared at me, but I smiled apologetically, careful not to draw suspicion.
“A duet is about to commence,” he replied lazily. “The whole pack is preparing for it.”
I nodded, pretending that was all I needed to know… because it was.
A duet that involved the entire pack meant only one thing: everyone would be distracted.
This is our chance.
We could escape without being noticed.
I nearly leapt with excitement but forced myself to stay calm. I was still outside, after all.
Once I was back in the cell, my group rushed toward me, bombarding me with questions.
“What happened?”
“Did the Alpha punish you?”
“Why were you summoned?”
I assured them they were fine and had nothing to worry about.
“I think we might be leaving here sooner than planned,” I said.
Amanda quickly pulled me aside before I could say anything else too revealing.
“This is the best time to escape from this hellhole,” I said seriously.
She stared at me in disbelief.
“What are you saying?” she whispered harshly. “Don’t you dare give these girls hope when you know it’s…”
“The Alpha is my mate,” I whispered.
She gasped sharply. “What did you just say?”
I nodded.
“You heard me right,” I said firmly. “And that’s exactly why this is the best time to escape.”
Her brows furrowed in confusion. “What? Escape?” she exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes.
