Chapter 61
One of the police officers looked over and asked, "Mr. Forbes, have you reached an agreement? Is it a settlement?"
Alexander cut him off: "No settlement. We demand full prosecution."
The police officer stepped forward and pulled out a pair of shiny handcuffs right in front of them: "Sir, then I'm afraid you'll have to come with us."
Charlotte finally panicked.
Because she knew in her heart.
Old man Oliver Smith refused to sell the medicine to Sabrina to stand up for her.
But Oliver had already helped her so much before—she couldn't let him suffer for her sake anymore.
So she stepped forward and stood in front of Oliver: "You have no evidence. You can't arrest him."
Then she turned to look at Alexander: "Alexander, you believe whatever Sabrina says. You really do favor her."
Sabrina immediately swayed, looking completely fragile: "Alexander, maybe we should just forget it? I don't want Charlotte to misunderstand."
But Alexander didn't waver at all. Instead, he looked at Charlotte with even more contempt: "I never thought you'd be so scheming, even using an old doctor. An apology, compensation, Calvin's letter of forgiveness, and the medicine—in exchange for his freedom. Otherwise, you can watch him spend the rest of his life in prison."
Charlotte gritted her teeth: "Alexander, you're insane. Go see a doctor and stop making a scene."
Alexander looked down at the coldness and impatience on Charlotte's face, his anger rising: "Even now, you still won't admit it?"
Charlotte sneered: "Admit what? I suggest you tie Sabrina to your side with a rope from now on, so she can't go around hurting people behind your back. Oh wait, I almost forgot—in your eyes, Sabrina is always the kindest, most innocent person in the world. Even if there's a problem, it's always someone else's fault."
After this speech, Oliver applauded: "Charlotte, well said! No need to save face for people like him."
Alexander was left speechless by her words.
Finally, with a dark expression, he waved his hand: "Officer, proceed."
The police immediately put handcuffs on Oliver and started pushing him toward the exit.
Watching Oliver struggle and look back, Charlotte's heart felt like it was being roasted over flames...
To force her to back down and submit, for Sabrina's sake, Alexander would stop at nothing.
But she was the one who walked through the storms with him all along...
Charlotte's fingers clenched tighter and tighter until her nails pierced the tender flesh of her palms, finally snapping her back to reality.
She raised her head, her gaze slowly sweeping over everyone, finally landing firmly on that cold-faced man.
"Alexander, if I agree to your conditions, can today's matter be written off?"
Alexander waved for the police to stop, then glanced at her coolly: "Charlotte, admitting fault requires the right attitude."
His tone was full of warning.
Clearly, he wanted Charlotte to admit her mistake first before they could continue talking.
"Fine."
A flash of stubbornness crossed Charlotte's eyes as she straightened her back even more.
"Charlotte!"
"Landon? Why are you here too?" Alexander looked surprised.
But Landon ignored him, as if he hadn't heard at all.
Then Oliver also called out: "Landon, you're finally here. If you'd come any later, you'd have to visit me in prison."
Charlotte, who had just been helped up, was shocked.
They knew each other? Could someone tell her what was going on?
Landon just chuckled, his tone full of certainty: "With me here, the prison wouldn't dare take you."
Hearing this, Oliver burst out laughing: "I knew I was right about you."
Watching this scene, everyone including Charlotte was stunned.
After Landon led Charlotte near Oliver, he commanded the police authoritatively: "Let him go."
The police didn't dare release him.
Landon narrowed his eyes and held out his phone, which was on a call, in front of the officer: "Your chief is on the line."
The officer's expression became serious. After taking the phone, he kept nodding.
When the call ended, the officer respectfully returned the phone with both hands, but looked troubled.
Landon waved his hand: "Don't worry, I won't put you in a difficult position. However, I have evidence that can prove Dr. Smith did not assault Miss Spencer."
Everyone's eyes immediately focused on Sabrina...
Meeting their gazes, Sabrina seemed deeply affected and swayed: "Mr. Landon Forbes, I don't know what I did wrong to upset you, but that's no reason for you to target me repeatedly."
As she spoke, her eyes slowly reddened again.
Sabrina was certain that this time was different from the Forbes Family pond incident—there was absolutely no way a third person could have witnessed the truth.
Besides, this small clinic was so shabby and old, it clearly couldn't afford to install surveillance cameras.
And if there were cameras, Oliver would have already used them to prove his innocence.
So as long as she insisted she was assaulted, Oliver could never walk away unscathed.
Across from her, seeing Sabrina's fragile appearance, Alexander's eyes darkened: "Landon, I know you and Grandmother both favor Charlotte, but Sabrina is innocent."
Calvin also gathered courage to speak up for Sabrina: "Alexander is right. Sabrina is just an innocent girl who would never joke about her reputation."
At this point, Calvin deliberately glanced at Charlotte: "Don't be fooled by those women with ulterior motives."
"Innocent? Pure?" Landon murmured, repeating their words. "Why don't we look at this first."
Landon swiped on his phone a couple times, then held it up high...
It was surveillance footage from the small clinic!
In the video, Oliver sat on a stool organizing medicine boxes the whole time, never touching Sabrina.
The so-called assault was just a scene Sabrina had staged entirely by herself.
The truth was revealed.
The crowd immediately erupted in boos...
"We really did wrong Oliver."
"I said all along Oliver wasn't that kind of person, but you all believed her after she cried a little."
"Didn't hear you saying that earlier."
The first to react was Charlotte.
She rushed to Oliver, both surprised and delighted: "That's wonderful! You're okay."
Oliver urged the police to unlock his handcuffs while looking smug: "See? How could I lose to a young girl? You should learn more from me in the future."
Charlotte didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and could only agree repeatedly.
On the other side, Alexander's expression had already changed.
"Sabrina, what's going on here?"
Sabrina's face was pale, her body as fragile as autumn leaves in the wind: "Alexander, I..."
Calvin couldn't stand it anymore: "Alexander, Sabrina did this all for your mother."
Suddenly a slap interrupted Calvin's words:
"Sabrina, are you crazy? Why are you hitting yourself?"
Crystal-clear tears fell from Sabrina's eyes one by one onto the ground: "It's me, it's all my fault. I knew Mrs. Forbes urgently needed the medicine, but Oliver refused to sell it. I had no choice, and in my desperation I thought of this method... It's all my fault. I apologize. Alexander, scold me, hit me."
Alexander sighed quietly.
Although what she did was wrong, ultimately Sabrina did it for him, trying to help him get the medicine.
Finally, he reached out to support Sabrina, whose body was trembling with sobs: "Alright, stop crying. I don't blame you. Calvin, take Sabrina back to the car first. I'll stay and explain to them."
Calvin responded and immediately helped Sabrina toward the exit.
At that moment, Charlotte suddenly spoke up: "Wait."
