Chapter 38

A CAGED BIRD.

"LEILA’s POV".

“One more thing,” I said, my finger on the trigger.

I saw the shock and horror on Alexander’s face.

“Did you think that I will let you go so easily? After all that I have done for you? I have put in so much into this relationship and this is the thanks I get?” I sneered at him.

“Keep that gun, Leila you do not know what you are doing.” Alexander

“Yes, yes I do.” I said and suddenly turned my gun, aiming at Tammy.

I pulled the trigger but cause of my shaky hands, the bullet hit the wall, creating a small hole in it.

“Oh no.” I mumbled and dropped the gun.

I tried to run away, but Ben caught me.

“Where do you think you are going! How dare you act smart with us?” Ben growled, and slapped my left cheek.

I closed my eyes in pain, hoping Alexander would save me.

“I will teach you a lesson!” Ben said and dragged me outside.

“Save me Alexander, save me.” I cried out in pain.

“Shut up! If I hear that name from your mouth one more time , I will cut your tongue off.” Ben said, his face twisted in annoyance.

I shut my mouth up and sat in his car. My body shaking with fear.

“What would happen to me? Is this my end? Will he kill me like he did the first time.”

Soon, we reached Ben’s house. Seeing this house brought back many painful memories.

Ben dragged me into the house, his grip on my hair caused me excruciating pain.

“You are nothing but a pathetic excuse. You are nothing but a W H O R E.” Ben spat on my face and slammed the door shut behind us.

His hands went around my neck, and he tightened his grip.

I could feel my life being sucked away from me. I struggled to breath but my throat felt tight.

“Please...Be-Ben.”

Ben released me from his grip and I gasped for air, coughing violently.

“You really thought that he loved you? You are so stupid to think any man would ever love you.” Ben spat, his voice dripping with malice. “You are nothing but a fool, an object that I can use to get what I want. And I will use you against Alexander. I will throw you away like the piece of trash that you are!”

My eyes flashed with rage.

“How dare you! How dare you Ben. You have some nerve to run your mouth. After all I did for you, I went against my parents for you and this is how you repay me?” I yelled at him.

Ben laughed a cold and evil laugh, his voice filled with glee.

“Repay you?” Ben scoffed. “You deserve worse than this. All you will ever deserve is pain and misery. I will make your life so unbearable that you will crawl to me begging me to kill you. But I will not kill you, for you must do everything I say.”

I narrowed my eyes, my whole body shaking from anger.

“What do you want? You know what, I do not care. I will never be a part of your evil games. You B A S T A R D.” I spat at him.

Ben just smiled, his eyes gleaming with murderous intent.

“You see,” Ben said, circling me. “ Your dear Alexander made a big mistake by agreeing to marry you. And now I will make him pay for taking what was mine in the first place.”

“Stop spewing rubbish.” I said, my voice trembling against my wish.

“I am not spewing rubbish Leila. You are going to help me ruin Alexander. You will tell me everything you know about him and tell me how to ruin him.” Ben ordered.

“Over my dead body.” I said, refusing him.

“I think you mean over your parents’ dead body.” Ben corrected.

I gulped, my blood running cold.

“What do you mean , my parents’ dead body.” I asked him, my voice wavering.

“Well, you see Leila. If you refuse to do as I say, I will kill your parents and make sure that’s your dinner.”

I froze in fear, tears running down my cheeks.

“Please Ben, please spare my parents. I will do anything that you ask of me..please Ben.” I pleaded with him.

“Good girl. Do not worry, I will save your parents life if you tell me everything I need to know about Alexander.” Ben said, caressing my face.

“What... what do you want to know?” I stuttered.

“I want to know why he married you, do not even think of lying to me.” Ben warned.

“I was supposed to get married to his cousin, but he somehow pulled some strings and I got married to him instead.” I lied through gritted teeth.

“Really? But you seemed so happy at the wedding altar.” Ben mocked.

“I had to, you do not know how dangerous Alexander is.” I lied, hoping he does not press on.

“And you fell in love with him? So hard that you were ready to do anything for him?” Ben sneered.

“It is all an act, I am doing all of this because I need Alexander’s name and fame.” I kept lying, to cover up my previous lies.

“Interesting,” Ben said. “Now I am sure he also had a motive for replacing his cousin , so tell me... have you ever noticed anything weird about him?”

I faked being lost in thoughts and then finally replied.

“No, I have not noticed anything weird about Alexander.” I answered.

“Really?” Ben asked, his tone filled with skepticism. “You are trying to tell me that ever since you two got married, he has never told you about his mother and her past? Has he ever mentioned anything about his father?”

I was quiet for some time, I hated to admit it but Ben’s words made me suspicious.

“There is more princess...” Ben said.
