A NOTE FROM A FOE.
ALEXANDER’s point of view.
“Are you serious? You want to end your marriage with Leila? Do you have any idea what you are saying?” Liam snapped at me.
I sighed and looked at him. “Yes,” I said. “I know what I am saying. It is the only way out. If I remain in this marriage and I keep Leila by my side, it will only make things worse for her. She will keep falling in love with me and I do not want that.”
“You have got to be kidding me Alex. Since when did you become a coward? “ Liam scoffed.
My eyes widened in shock. “Coward!” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes, you Alexander, you are a coward.” Liam said, poking my chest with each word.
I slapped his hand off of my chest. “Stop doing that and stop calling me a coward.”
“Why? You are acting like one, it is only fair if I call you a coward.” Liam answered and continued with his poking.
“You have to stop this. I am being serious right now. I am considering putting an end to this.” I said with a determined voice.
“And let me ask you one question, one important question. Why?” Liam asked, looking at me, his hands on his waist.
I looked at Liam and sighed. I knew he would not understand what I was saying.
“Because..” I said and suddenly all the words disappeared from my mouth.
“Because what?” Liam asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Because, Leila can not keep up with this. I am afraid she will lose her interest in this whole revenge thing she has with the Maloney’s.” I said, running my hand in my hair.
“I think you need to talk to Leila and you two need to sort things out. A good talk can go a long way I saving your relationship with her. Maybe you two can even reach an agreement or you might fall in love with her.” Liam whispered the last part.
“Stop saying rubbish Liam. I can not fall in love, at least not with Leila.” I mumbled.
Liam looked at him, his brows knitted together. “What do you mean by at least not with Leila? Does she not deserve love or she is not worthy of your love?”
I took a deep breath trying to gather myself. I knew that no matter what I say, what language or dialect I spoke, Liam would never listen to me.
“Just forget about it.” I said and waved his question to the side.
The look on Liam’s face showed that he did not accepting my answer. “You do know that I am not the type who would easily give up,” He said. “I will make sure you blurt out the truth.”
“I am not keeping any secrets. Please do not start any drama Liam I am begging you.” I said and joined my hands together.
Liam held my hand in his hand. “I am your best friend Alex,” He said, in a soft and caring voice. “I am here for you and I have been with you long enough to know what is on your mind. Take my advice, go home and talk to Leila you two should work something out.”
I took a deep breath. Perhaps he was right, I should talk to Leila about this and hopefully something productive might come out from our discussion. And we will find another way of reaching our goals without having to end our marriage.
I pocketed my car keys. “Alright , I will go home and talk to Leila. Thank you for listening Liam. I will talk to you later.”
“Keep me pasted, and if you need smooching tips, I am also here.” Liam said, giggling.
I rolled my eyes and left his living room. As I sat in my car, I kept thinking of how to approach Leila and tell her what I really felt for her.
“ you should try calling her, it might be easy to initiate a conversation over the phone.” A voice in my head said.
I quickly reached for my phone, and saw I had ten missed calls from Leila. I felt a chill run down my spine, and my heart jumped to my throat.
“Ten missed calls?” I mumbled under my breath and dialed her number.
“User busy?” I said and hung up the call.
“Why did Leila call? Did she find any clue on who wanted to poison her this morning?” I muttered as I drove back home.
“Is she in some sort of danger? Try calling her again.”
I dialed her number, it rang but she did not pick up the phone.
My fears were confirmed. Leila was in danger.
I dialed the number of my private bodyguard, “pick up ,pick up!” I was growing restless by the minute.
“Hello boss,” a deep voice said from the other end of the line. “All good boss?”
“Yes, all good Alfred. Where is Leila?” I asked, panicking.
“Leila should be in her room. I have not seen her since the morning incident. Any problem boss? Something wrong somewhere?” Alfred asked.
“No Alfred, all is good.” I said and hung up the call.
One part of me was relieved knowing Leila is safe, but the other part of me was worried. I had this feeling, something was about to go horribly wrong.
I picked up my phone and dialed Alfred’s number again. “Hello, Alfred. I want you to go to my room and confirm if Leila is really in the house.”
“Yes boss.” Alfred said and I could hear the sound of his footsteps, as he walked to my room.
“Knock , Knock.” I heard Alfred say from the other end of the phone.
“Open the door and go in!” I snapped at him, my patience running thin.
“Yes boss. Boss, Miss Leila is not in her room.” Alfred said.
“I knew it! Check around the room and find anything.” I yelled .
“Yes boss. Boss, I found something.” Alfred said.
“What is that?” I asked.
