Chapter 151
Alexander was pondering what kind of feelings Lila had for this "Matt" when he heard her nervously interrupt the old lady, "Grandma, let's not bring up the past."
After saying that, Lila changed the subject, "What delicious food is Grandma planning to make for me today?"
The old lady played coy, "Guess?"
Lila played along, "Meat sauce pasta?"
Meat sauce pasta was the first dish Lila had made for Alexander, and also her favorite food. The secret to this dish was her grandmother's own meat sauce recipe, with perfectly balanced seasoning and consistency. The meat sauce could fully coat the pasta, and while the sauce was simmering, other dishes could be prepared. When the whole room filled with the aroma of meat sauce, everyone would know they could soon enjoy the delicious meal.
The old lady gave her a thumbs up, "My granddaughter is so smart. I just bought fresh meat and bay leaves yesterday, so I'll make it for you today."
"Grandma is the best. I haven't had it in so long, I really miss your cooking."
"I'll go get the meat sauce started now. You and..."
The old lady looked at Alexander, seeming to think about how to address him.
Alexander was about to remind her to just call him Alex when the old lady had already spoken, "Alex, you and Alex can chat for a bit."
Lila didn't really want to be alone with Alexander.
As soon as the old lady finished speaking, she stood up and looked at her, "Grandma, why don't I help you?"
"What help do you need for cooking something? Just sit here."
"Alright then."
The old lady got up and went into the kitchen.
In the yard, only Lila and Alexander remained.
There was a brief silence in the air.
For some reason, the image of him kissing her hand earlier flashed through Lila's mind.
At that moment, his eyes held a kind of wickedness, along with a provocative defiance, deliberately going against her wishes.
Did he act this way when he was with Celeste too?
Probably not. How could Celeste stand him if he did?
The reason he treated her this way was because he didn't like her. Since he didn't like her, he didn't care about her feelings. He could hurt and bully her however he wanted—it didn't matter anyway, since he didn't need to worry about her leaving him or anything.
As her thoughts wandered, Alexander's voice rang out, "Who's Matt?"
Lila snapped back to attention and looked at him, casually saying, "A neighbor. Didn't Grandma just say so?"
He looked at her with interest, his light snort carrying a barely noticeable sarcasm, "You actually call other people by nicknames?"
"That was when I was little."
"So you two were really close back then."
Lila didn't know how to respond.
Couldn't he just shut up if he had nothing to say?
She glared at him and said nothing.
But then Alexander spoke again, "Call me brother Alex and let me hear it?"
She couldn't help but curse at him, "Are you out of your mind?"
"What did you say?"
"If you want to hear it, go find someone else to call you that. I'm sure plenty of women in Oceancrest City would be happy to play along. Forget calling you brother—they'd be happy to call you daddy."
Alexander leaned back in his chair, his whole body radiating some kind of powerful aura that came from nowhere, almost making Lila think this was his home.
It was clearly her and her grandmother's home.
Alexander carried his own domineering presence wherever he went. It was annoying as hell.
After Lila finished speaking, he said with unclear meaning, "You seem to know a lot about the other women in Oceancrest City."
"That's because of Mr. Sinclair's reputation in Oceancrest City. I've heard a few things before."
"What exactly have you heard?"
She replied perfunctorily, "Whatever people said, that's what I heard."
Alexander pressed on, "Be specific?"
