Chapter 517
“Mom, look how things turned out. You wouldn’t give me this house back then, and now it’s ended up with that ###. What are we supposed to do? Sleep on the street? This was your last property, right? You’re really selfish.”
Verity got it all out, then turned and left.
Cecilia couldn’t catch her breath and dropped onto the sofa. Watching her daughter’s back disappear, tears kept running down her face.
When she felt a cold stare, Cecilia looked at her son, her chest tight with pain.
She knew she’d always favored her daughter. But her son was still her own flesh and blood—she’d carried him for nine months and raised him carefully when he was little. Even if she spoiled her daughter more, she didn’t think she’d ever done anything truly wrong to him.
Seeing the hate in his eyes and hearing her daughter’s complaints, she couldn’t take it anymore. Her eyes rolled back and she passed out.
Elodie stood there, gave her a cold look, and said, “Cecilia brought this on herself. She can’t raise kids and always plays favorites. Anyway, she’s still the elder. Take her back to her room.”
Her last checkup showed she was fine. She just fainted from anger.
Elodie said it lightly, then pushed Simon back to their room.
The housekeeper stood there thinking for a moment, then had someone carry Cecilia to her room.
Elsewhere.
In the locked room, Elodie stared hard at Simon. “So you’ve been lying to me all these years, right? You said the house would go to our kids, but the will clearly leaves it to Adelaide.”
That was why Elodie had married in as a mistress in the first place—because of this house.
The mansion was worth a fortune. After coming here once and learning its real value, she’d decided she had to marry the owner.
She never expected to end up with a fake.
The angrier she got, the harder she slapped him.
A sharp smack.
Simon’s head jerked to the side. He glared at her with pure venom. If looks could kill, she’d be full of holes.
Elodie didn’t flinch. She glanced at her slightly swollen belly, then slapped him with both hands, one after another.
The sharp sounds kept coming.
She looked like she was letting out years of rage.
“What the hell are you? You’re already useless, and you still dare glare at me? You still want to curse me? I’m going to teach you a lesson today, you shameless bastard. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have abandoned my own daughter.”
“All these years I’ve been like a toy to you. I’m so much younger, yet I’ve been sucking up to you like a dog. And what did I get? Nothing.”
The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt.
She really had picked the wrong man.
Simon only bought her luxury stuff. The house and company shares? Nothing. And he’d lied to her about everything.
Axel’s mansion was clearly left to Adelaide, but he’d tricked her into thinking it would go to their kids.
Thinking about all the pregnancy supplements she’d taken over the years made her even angrier. She grabbed Simon by the throat.
“You deserve to die! You deserve to die! Why did you lie to me? All these years I followed you around—did you ever feel anything for me? You tricked me so badly…”
All the old pain kept flashing through her mind.
After marrying in, she hadn’t had one good day.
On the outside she looked like a rich wife living the high life, but only she knew how miserable it really was. She smiled in public and cried in private, more tears than anyone could count.
She kept squeezing, venting every bit of resentment, until Simon’s eyes rolled back and his face turned purple.
Worried she’d actually kill him, the housekeeper who’d been watching rushed in and shoved Elodie away.
“Ma’am, what are you doing? Even if you hate him for keeping mistresses, you can’t murder him. That’s illegal.”
The housekeeper’s tone was sharp.
If she hadn’t seen how carefully he looked after Simon, Elodie might have thought he was stirring trouble.
She looked at him coldly. “I’m pregnant. How dare you push me?”
“Ma’am, there are cameras all over this room. Don’t try to frame me. I only gave you a light push. You didn’t fall, and nothing happened to your belly. The baby has nothing to do with me.”
The housekeeper wanted to shut it down before she caused more trouble.
Elodie snorted. “Fine. I’ll remember this. You’re just a servant. If I hadn’t kept you, you wouldn’t even be here.”
Then she said coldly, “I’ll take care of my husband today. You can leave. Don’t worry, I won’t kill him. Murder has consequences.”
But “taking care” of him? That was no problem at all.
The housekeeper knew he had no power here and could only leave, glancing back every few steps.
Simon kept shaking as he watched the man’s back, silently begging him to stay. When the door finally closed, despair flashed in his eyes.
He was right. Elodie had just tried to strangle him. Now that they were alone, she was going to make him suffer.
He wasn’t wrong. She’d stayed to torture him.
Elodie threw him to the floor, grabbed one leg, and dragged him into the bathroom.
“We’ve been together all these years. I only stopped tormenting you because you got old. Do you remember how you treated me when we first got together?”
She picked up the showerhead, turned on the cold water, and let it pour straight over his head.
“Back then you had some sick habit of torturing people. Every night you’d make me wish I was dead. Afraid I’d scream, you’d cover my mouth and drag me into the bathroom.”
It wasn’t this room, but the pain was still burned into her.
She soaked him completely, then pulled off the showerhead and shoved the hose straight into his mouth.
Finally, she turned the water on full blast.
