Chapter 744
Chapter 744
"Luna, I need a favor."
Luna had been keeping up with Margaret's story in the news recently. The reports kept changing, and she wasn't sure what was true. She wanted to reach out to Margaret but hesitated since she knew Margaret was swamped.
"Maggie, what are you talking about? It's never a bother for me. If you need my help, I'm more than happy to assist."
"What's going on? How can I help?"
Luna was confused. The news had been filled with gossip about Margaret's personal life, and she didn't see how she could be of any help.
"Can you take care of Liberty today? If you have time, take her out for a walk. I have some urgent matters to attend to and can't get away."
Luna sighed in relief.
"Is that all? Of course, I can do that. I'm not busy at all these days. It'll be fun to hang out with Liberty."
Margaret smiled softly.
"Thank you, Luna."
Not long after, Luna arrived at the villa to pick up Liberty. Margaret then headed straight to the Seymour Mansion.
When she arrived, Elodie was unaware of what was happening. She was still applying a face mask and was shocked to see Margaret walk in.
Elodie greeted Margaret with a sarcastic tone.
"Well, look who's here! Why didn't you call ahead? I could have rolled out the red carpet for you. Shouldn't I light fireworks for such a distinguished guest?"
Margaret recognized the sarcasm but remained calm and approached Elodie directly.
"Elodie, I don't want to waste time with pleasantries. I'm here because I've uncovered the truth about what happened years ago. I need you to apologize at my parents' graves."
Elodie's face turned pale, and she stepped back, unable to believe her ears.
"What did you say?"
Margaret gave her a disdainful look.
"Elodie, you heard me. You can't believe it, can you? But Raymond investigated everything. It was Dorian who orchestrated it, hoping Raymond and Stella would end up together."
"In the end, Elodie, it's your fault. If you hadn't insisted on pairing Stella with Raymond, Dorian wouldn't have targeted Mr. Oscar Seymour."
Elodie was stunned, shaking her head as she processed Margaret's words.
"So, you're saying Oscar died because he didn't agree to the match between Stella and Raymond, and Dorian killed him for it?"
Margaret nodded knowingly.
"Exactly. So, Elodie, Oscar Seymour's death is on you. If you hadn't pushed for Stella and Raymond to be together, none of this would have happened."
Elodie sank to the floor, overwhelmed.
"How could that be? I was just trying to find Raymond a girlfriend. How could that lead to Oscar's death?"
Margaret scoffed. She couldn't believe it either, but the truth was clear. Elodie's stubbornness had led to tragedy.
If Elodie hadn't insisted on introducing Stella to Raymond, Oscar Seymour and Margaret's parents would still be alive.
"Elodie, that's the reality. Raymond's investigation is thorough. You can't deny it. And Elodie, I want you to know, for the torture you put me through, I'll repay every bit."
Elodie's face was ghostly pale.
"No, it can't be true. Oscar's death can't be my fault! Even if Dorian was behind it, he must have had another reason."
Elodie was in shock, unable to accept that her matchmaking had led to Oscar's death. She remembered Oscar's opposition to the match because he disliked the Brown family and Stella. Could that have angered Dorian enough to kill him?
Elodie shook her head repeatedly, as if trying to wake up from a nightmare.
"No, it can't be... it's impossible..."
Margaret scoffed again.
"Elodie, it's not impossible. You just don't want to admit it. You've hated my parents and me all your life, but in the end, we were all victims of your actions."
Margaret looked down at the scars on her body, reminders of the torture she endured in the dark room, inflicted by Elodie.
She wasn't one to forgive easily. The truth was out, but she wouldn't let it go. She wanted revenge for everything Elodie had done to her.
Margaret grabbed Elodie's hand.
"Elodie, I'm going to make you pay for everything I suffered because of the Seymour family."
Margaret dragged Elodie toward the dark room.
Before Elodie could react, she was locked inside. Margaret stood at the door, hand poised to activate the switch.
But suddenly, Margaret felt a heavy weight on her hand, hesitating. She remembered the agony she endured in the dark room, vowing to make Elodie suffer the same.
She had sworn to herself that when the truth came out, she wouldn't spare Elodie. But now, she was conflicted. Why was she hesitating? Why not press the switch and let Elodie experience her pain?
Inside the dark room, Elodie was terrified, shouting for help.
"Help! Help!"
Getting no response, she frantically pulled out her phone and called Raymond.
"Raymond, come quickly! Margaret's gone mad and locked me in the dark room."
Raymond, busy with work, frowned at the call.
"Margaret went to see you?"
Elodie quickly replied, "Yes, that crazy woman is here. Raymond, she said everything was Dorian's doing. She said if I hadn't introduced Stella to you, your father wouldn't have died."
Raymond sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "Alright, Elodie, calm down. I'll be there as soon as I can."
He hung up and stared at his desk, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He knew Margaret's pain and anger was justified, but he also knew he had to stop this before it went too far.
Meanwhile, Margaret stood outside the dark room, her finger still hovering over the switch. She could hear Elodie's frantic cries, but they sounded distant, almost muted by her own thoughts.
"Do it," she whispered to herself. "She deserves this."
But something held her back. The thought of becoming the very monster she despised made her stomach turn. She had always prided herself on being different from Elodie, on rising above the cruelty she had endured.
Margaret took a deep breath and stepped back, letting her hand fall to her side. She turned and walked away, leaving Elodie in the dark room but without activating the switch.
As she exited the mansion, she felt a strange mix of relief and disappointment. She hadn't gotten her revenge, but she hadn't lost herself either.
Minutes later, Raymond arrived, rushing to the dark room and freeing Elodie. She stumbled out, her face pale and eyes wide with fear.
"Raymond, she... she didn't..."
"I know," he said softly, helping her to a chair. "I know."
He looked around, knowing Margaret had left. He hoped she had found some peace in walking away, but he also knew this wasn't the end. The truth was out, and it would change everything.
