Chapter 296 Please Restrain Your Grief

Chapter 296 Please Restrain Your Grief

On the other side, Hampton Villa.

The moment Daniel heard John's voice, his heart suddenly clenched into a tight knot.

Daniel's voice sounded like it came from the depths of hell.

"John!"

However, what answered him was a loud bang, then the call completely cut off. The surroundings felt like sinking into the deep sea, leaving only the sound of his frantic heartbeat.

"Daniel! Where are you going?"

Daniel pulled open the car door. Waverly tried to grab him.

With a forceful shake from Daniel, Waverly fell hard onto the rainy ground. The umbrella in her hand rolled away and was blown off by the wind.

Before she could get up, she was splashed in the face with cold water from the car wheels.

Opening her eyes, the taillights of that car flashed once and disappeared into the curtain of rain. The three bodyguards Daniel had left here to watch Alice exchanged glances.

The leader ordered one to stay behind, then got in the car with another person and sped off in pursuit.

"Ms. White, please get up."

A White family servant came forward with an umbrella, bending down to help Waverly up.

Waverly shook off the servant's hand and pushed herself up from the ground. The servant tried to say a few caring words, but seeing Waverly's profile, her voice stopped abruptly.

She expected Waverly to look sad and helpless after being left behind, but Waverly's expression was ice cold.

The red lights from the ambulance flashed across the corner of Waverly's eyes, giving her a somewhat sinister look.

Daniel received the call that Scarlett had been rescued and sent to the hospital while driving down the mountain.

The car cut through the rain like lightning, racing homeward.

Half an hour later, Daniel arrived at the hospital, but it was already too late. Scarlett had been in the operating room for nearly ten minutes.

Outside the operating room door, the Howard family was still there.

Theron tried to persuade Maeve and Steven to go home first, but Maeve refused to leave, so Steven could only stay with Maeve and wait.

Daniel rushed to the operating room door, soaking wet. Tom had already brought people to guard this floor.

"Boss, Mrs. Wilson went in eight minutes ago. The situation isn't good. Mrs. Wilson was hemorrhaging badly when she went in. Mr. Howard signed the surgery consent form.

Also, Gia and Rocky have been sent to the operating room too."

Tom stepped forward to quickly report the situation, then took a towel from a nearby bodyguard to hand to Daniel.

Daniel raised his hand to block it and turned to look at the waiting area.

There, Steven and Maeve sat in chairs, while Theron crouched on the ground handing a cup of hot water to Maeve.

But Daniel's gaze fell on them.

Blood. They were all stained with blood.

Daniel knew it was Scarlett's blood.

So glaring, so red.

Her body was so thin and small—how could she lose so much blood.

Daniel's handsome face looked pale and bloodless, like it had just been pulled from beneath ice.

He turned around almost mechanically and walked toward the Howard family.

Theron stood up, his eyes sharp and cold, blocking Daniel's path. He said in a low voice.

"Mr. Wilson seems very busy. The Wilson Mansion and the Star Group aren't far from here, yet Mr. Wilson arrived rather late."

Daniel was even later than his secretary and bodyguards, which Theron hadn't expected.

Though not a harsh statement, it made Daniel stop in his tracks.

Daniel didn't say much, he just silently bowed deeply to the Howard family with solemn respect.

He straightened up, his voice hoarse.

"I'm deeply grateful for saving her life. Once Scarlett and the baby are safe, I will properly express my thanks."

Theron raised an eyebrow slightly and said coldly, "It wasn't for Mr. Wilson's sake, so there's no need."

Steven let go of Maeve's hand and stood up, patting Theron's shoulder.

Though Steven also felt it wasn't fair to Scarlett, this was Daniel's family matter after all. They weren't related to Scarlett, and Steven could see Daniel was in bad shape too.

Daniel was soaking wet, his face looked terrible, and there was an obvious bruise on his forehead, like he'd been in some accident.

He must be suffering inside too.

Theron said nothing more. Steven asked Daniel, "Who was the person who kidnapped Scarlett?"

"John, Scarlett's father in name only, but we just discovered recently that she's not actually the Lewis family's child either."

When Daniel mentioned John, the bloodshot in his eyes deepened another layer.

Steven knew about Scarlett and the Brown family situation, but hearing that the Lewis family wasn't Scarlett's real blood relatives either, he was slightly stunned.

Daniel also looked at Steven and asked, "How did Mr. Steven Howard and Mr. Theron Howard happen to pass by?"

Steven turned to look at Maeve and said, "We didn't just pass by. We were going to see Scarlett."

Half an hour before the incident, Maeve, who had already fallen asleep, suddenly woke up screaming that Sophia was in trouble and she needed to find Sophia.

Steven thought she was having a nightmare about Sophia and tried to calm Maeve down.

Usually when Steven comforted her, things would settle down, but today Maeve was especially insistent and became more agitated.

Steven had no choice but to video call Scarlett.

These past few days, when Maeve wanted to see Scarlett, she'd made many video calls. Scarlett was very good to Maeve and never got impatient, always answering right away.

But today the video call wouldn't connect. Steven became uneasy too, especially with Maeve rushing out the door insisting on leaving.

So Steven asked Theron to drive them to Radiant Grove.

Who would have thought they'd run right into John attacking Scarlett, and by this coincidence, saved her.

"Scarlett really must be destined to be with the Howard family." Steven sighed, not expecting such a coincidence.

Daniel thanked them again, then turned back to the operating room door.

Without Daniel needing to say anything, Tom went to arrange a VIP room to use as a rest area.

Steven and Maeve couldn't hold up physically. Half an hour later, they were helped away.

The operating room light didn't go out until an hour and a half later.

When the doctor came out, Daniel's stiff spine trembled slightly beyond his control.

He stepped forward, his fists hanging at his sides making sounds of unbearable tension.

"Mr. Daniel Wilson, Mrs. Scarlett Wilson's hemorrhaging has been stopped. She's not in immediate danger."

The doctor's voice wavered slightly under Daniel's bloodshot gaze.

Daniel closed his eyes briefly, his anxious heart suddenly dropping, but before it could settle, he heard the doctor continue.

"But unfortunately, the baby was premature and it was a difficult birth. By the time we got to the operating room, the baby was already in severe oxygen deprivation and blood loss, with the umbilical cord tangled."

Daniel stared at the doctor's mouth opening and closing. He'd never felt so close to losing his composure. He suddenly grabbed the doctor's collar and said hoarsely.

"What happened to the baby?"

"The baby couldn't be saved when born. Mr. Wilson, please accept my condolences."

The doctor's voice trembled. He didn't dare look at Daniel's face.

Tom stood behind Daniel. Hearing the doctor's words, Tom's mind felt like it had been struck, blank for a long time.

The baby was over seven months along.

Not an embryo, but a formed child. A small life that could have survived.

How could this be.

Daniel's grip on the doctor's collar suddenly released. His steps were unsteady, staggering back two steps.

Tom instinctively raised his hand to support him, but was pushed away by Daniel.

Daniel steadied himself shakily, head lowered, his figure casting a long, frozen shadow under the cold white overhead lights.

The next second, that shadow shook violently.

Daniel's tall body suddenly dropped to one knee, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
