Chapter 74 74
Brooke asked Ryan the question she did. It was because she recalled Zion made mention of that while punching Ryan in the face. She is even surprised that he took the punch so well that his face wasn't bloody. Because Nathan was doing it with rage.
"What Nathan said, is it true? Did he look for me? Did he ask for your help to look for me?" She asked again when Ryan was quiet for some time.
"He did." Ryan finally answered, after letting out a long sigh. “But I promised your father that under no circumstances will I disclose your location to Nathan. He made me promise. And I kept my word to it." He said even though that was not his only reason. He had more reasons for it. But it is a good excuse to keep his selfish interest out of it.
"I know about that. But then why did you make me feel like Nathan would instantly reject Liam? That was really wrong of you to do that." Brooke said.
"I didn't say he would." Ryan defended.
"But you made me think of it another way. I was making the assumptions. About how Nathan was going to reject my son. Since he is married to Karen and probably has a family now. He wouldn't want anything to do with him and you lead me on. Even making me think of worse scenarios. After all, you knew at that time that he was looking for me." She sighed.
"After all you did, you are not entirely to blame. I was the one who asked you not to tell me anything about him. So it was my fault as well. But right now, I wish you had forced some information on me." She added. She then began to sob.
Ryan was confused at that moment. He wondered if it is because of that fact that Nathan has been looking for her and she didn't know. But she began to speak again and Ryan understood why she was sobbing.
"You know, earlier Liam was asking me if his daddy didn't love him. And that was why he never took him to school like the other kids." She sniffed. "God! I did this to my son. I deprived him of his father's attention. This is all my fault."
Ryan got up and walked closer to her. He put a hand on her shoulder to comfort her. "I am sorry, Bee."
"I wish I would have prevented what is happening now from happening. But from now on, I am going to respect Nathan and Liam's wishes to see each other. Liam really wants to meet his father as much as Nathan wants to meet his son." Brooke concluded.
Ryan nodded in understanding. "I get it. You are right." He gave his support.
When they were through with their conversation, Ryan left.
Brooke had her dinner with Liam. After that, they went to bed together. She slept in Liam's room that night and kept checking on him whenever she woke up, through the night.
The next morning, she felt his small hands on her cheeks. Her eyes soon flutter open, falling on the cute boy that is her son and heat in human form.
Liam gave her a full grin. "Mommy, I don't feel sick anymore. Can I see daddy today?" He asked.
Brooke smiled and nodded her head in response.
"Bee dear, what did you and Nathan talk about yesterday? Since he returned yesterday, he didn't say anything. He just sat in a corner and kept smiling to himself. He will smile and then turn to his gloomy self. Then smile again. I wondered what was running through his mind like that." Marise spoke to Brooke.
While Brooke was examining Robert. Although he was still sedated and remained in the ICU for more observation. The hospital has a protocol. After an open heart surgery, a patient will remain under a lung machine for twenty four hours. They will monitor the heart and then move the patient when everything is going well.
"Umm..... He hasn't told you about Liam?" Brooke asked. She was surprised that Nathan hasn't said anything to his mother about her grandson.
Marise shook her head with a frown. "You mean your boyfriend? He hasn't said anything." Realization done on her. She gasped and asked, "Oh my goodness! Did he start a fight with Liam? Is that what happened to his knuckles? Why did he do such a thing?" She became worried.
"No Aunty, he didn't start a fight with Liam. He could never do that." Brooke said after a chuckle. "However, we haven't finished talking just yet. An emergency came through and we had to cut it short but we are going to find time to continue. Maybe later in the day."
"But he has told me about Keren." Brooke added.
"Oh thank God. I am glad he has cleared that with you." Marise walked closer to Brooke and held her hand. "Then maybe one day, you will find it in your heart to forgive him as well. I am not trying to persuade you into doing it. But I really hope someday you will forgive him. He really regretted what he did."
Brooke did not respond to that as she went back to doing her job. At the same time, she wondered why Nathan hadn't said anything to his mother about Liam. But then she thought maybe he wanted to confirm it first.
Until he takes a paternity test and confirms it before he will inform his parents about Liam. She wouldn't blame him if that is his intention. Especially with what Ryan pulled yesterday at the school.
She did not respond to Mrs Leo's statement. Instead, she updated her on the condition of Mr Leo.
"Aunty, uncle is doing well so I will have him off his ventilator. I will have the nurses stop his sedatives now. Then he can be moved to a room. But I need you to be there when he wakes up." She instructed.
"Of course, I will be there." Marise assured her.
Hours went by and Robert was out of the ventilator and now awaited to wake up soon. Brooke continued to observe him. She made sure everything was going as it was supposed to. When she made sure everything was fine, she realized it was finally time.
The time has come for Nathan and Liam to meet.
