Chapter 62 62
After dropping Liam off at school and returning to the hospital. She and her surgical team had a briefing with doctor Patel. About Robert Leo's condition and the treatment he would require.
Brooke was still worried as to how she was going to face the Leos, after so many years. It would definitely feel awkward for her. She also wondered if they would be okay with her being Robert's doctor. Only one way to find out.
"Doctor Bee. We are about to meet your new patient. Do you have any questions before that?" Doctor Patel asked.
"No, not really. It is all clear." Brooke said, nervously.
"I know I can count on you, Doctor Bee. But I will also tell you that Mr Leo is a high profile client. If things go well with his procedure. There is every possibility that he would refer us to more high profile clients too." Doctor Patel said with excitement. "He might even go to the extent of investigating in the hospital." He added.
Brooke got up and nodded in understanding with a smile. "Yes, probably. You have nothing to worry about, Doctor Patel." Brooke assured him. "I sort of knew them back in Silverbrook. Although, not that well."
"Ahh.. perfect. That would make it easy to build trust in our facility. The fact that you are acquainted with them." Doctor Patel remarked. "Shall we?"
Soon, they arrived at Robert's room. Doctor Patel was leading as Brooke and her surgical team followed behind. Brooke immediately noticed Nathan. She felt his gaze burning on her skin. Mr and Mrs Leo were both shocked to see her. They couldn't hide their surprised expression.
Both of them turned to Nathan, probably to see his reaction as well.
"Good morning Mr Leo. I am doctor Patel, the acting head of all surgeries in the hospital." Doctor Patel introduced himself. He then pointed to Brooke.
"This is Doctor Bee. She is the chief surgeon in the surgery department. She is also rising into fame as we speak now. She is starting to be popular as one of the best thoracic surgeons in the country." Doctor Patel smiled before he continued. "That is the reason why I assigned her to lead your operation."
He then pointed to the other two people that came with him. "And these are Doctor Brooke's assistant surgeon and scrub nurse." Doctor Patel said. He however did not fail to notice how both Mr and Mrs Leo's attention was still on Brooke.
"Mr Leo, I assure you with Doctor Bee, you are in good hands." He assured them again. He felt there was something not right at that moment. Because the way they are both looking at her. It was hard to define.
"Bee, have you ever thought about us? After all the years we have known each other, do we mean nothing to you?" Samantha cried out of nowhere after a few seconds passed.
The people in the room looked between the two. They are obviously confused about what was going on. Doctor Patel too. Bee might have already told him she is acquainted with them. But she didn't make it seem like they know each other that well.
"Bee, I have taken care of you since you were a child. I held you in my arms. I watched you grow. Does any of that mean anything to you?" Samantha asked with a shaky voice.
Brooke remained speechless. She bowed her head down, looking at her shoes. The whole room fell silent as Doctor hale and the other two were still lost in what was going on.
"Bee, my child." Robert's weak voice came through. He forced himself to sit up on the bed.
Brooke was quick to walk to him because he pulled his nasal cannula down to speak to her.
"Bee, my child. Have you forgotten us? I am still the uncle Robert you knew. I took care of you when you were little. I consider you to be like a daughter to me. A daughter I never had. Please let's all let it go. Let bygones be bygones. There is no need to dwell on what had happened in the past." Robert pleaded. "Why are you still mad at us?"
"Uncle, I am not mad at you. I never was." Brooke said as she tried to sniff her tears away but kept failing. At that moment, she didn't care who was there. She didn't care about the fact that her senior and junior colleagues were in the room watching. She went ahead and gave Robert a side hug.
Nathan earlier told his parents about Brooke. He told them he has seen her and she is going to be Robert's surgeon. Both Mr and Mrs Leo were very pleased to hear that.
So many years have gone by but the Leos still missed Turners. More than anything, they wanted to reconnect with their dear friends again. Especially Brooke, who spends some nights in their home when her parents are busy with work.
Earlier when Nathan. Told his parents that Brooke was in charge of his surgery, they were glad. Robert wanted to use that opportunity to make things right with Brooke. And if possible her parents too. Seeing as he is sick and might not know what would come next.
"Uncle, please relax. You don't have to get up and you are not in a position to get too emotional." Brooke advised.
Robert asked for a hug and Brooke obliged.
"Come give me a hug too, my dear Bee. How I have missed you." Samantha stretched her hands to her. Brooke hugged her as well. Samantha rained kisses on Brooke's face, the same way she used to before.
Seeing the situation has turned into a family thing. The two colleagues excused themselves and left the room.
"Doctor Bee, I think I will take my leave now. It seems you need a moment. Also, explained all the necessary things to Mr Leo about his procedure." Doctor Patel instructed.
"I will, Doctor. Thank you." Brooke answered with a shaky voice.
Doctor Patel also excused himself and left the room.
Meanwhile, Brooke was being embraced and kissed all over by Robert and Samantha. Nathan, on the other hand, was sitting on a sofa in the room and watching them. He wondered if he is also welcomed to give her a hug and also cry on her shoulders. He felt he needed to do that more than his parents. But instead, he stayed put in the same position.
"So... Bee my dear, talk to me. Tell me what has been going on with you all these years. Where have you been and how did you do it so that we couldn't find you?" Robert asked in a weak voice.
Nathan gave his full attention, listening. Those are questions he also has for Brooke. It is a good thing his father asked. Knowing she would give his father the answer but might not give it to him.
