Chapter 59 59
Brooke got to work immediately, when she got the verbal permission from Mr Ralph's wife. He had an internal bleeding in his chest. It took a while for Brooke to figure out which part of the chest was bleeding. With the help of the assistant and also the use of a tube camera that went inside his chest and she found it.
"Doctor Bee, I noticed a hot guy in the waiting area. He is so handsome. Who is he and how do you get them so easily?" One of the female assistant surgeons asked. “And why do hot guys always surround you?” She added.
She is closing up the wound when she answers one of her assistants' comments. "He is someone I used to know sometime ago."
The assistant had her mouth in 'oh'. "Sorry Doc. I thought.... " She trailed off.
In the next hour, Brooke was done with the major work. She succeeded in stopping the internal bleeding and now, it was time to close it up. She left that part for the assistant surgeon. "I have to go now. I am late for my report."
One of the nurses chuckled.
"Say hi to Liam for me." The assistant surgeon said. Brooke smiled. "Will do." She answered as she reached for the exit of the operating room.
As soon as she stepped out of the emergency room, Brooke froze in her stance for a moment.
'What the..... Why is he still here? Has he been waiting for me? What is he even doing here?' Brooke thought as she walked.
Nathan began to approach her. Her eyes were roaming on him with all the questions running in her head when she noticed something. Nathan tried to stop her by raising his hand up and she noticed he had a wedding ring on.
Her heart sank. 'So he is married. He finally married Keren. His mind must be at ease now. He has finally achieved what he wanted to achieve.' Brooke thought. She decided to turn in the direction of her office instead of allowing Nathan to get to her.
'I bet they have a child or even more than one. Uhgg. Why do I even care? I shouldn't care. I don't care.' Brooke kept rambling in her thoughts.
Nathan was quick to stop her from walking any further. "Bee, please stop." He stood in her way.
"What do you want? What can I do for you, Mr Leo?" Brooke asked in a plain voice.
She could clearly see how Nathan looked a bit surprised and probably disappointed. She thought it has to do with the way she addressed him. But why not? They are basically strangers now to each other.
"Bee, it's still me, your all time friend. We have known each other since we were kids." Nathan pointed out. "How have you been, Bee?" He asked further.
"Mr Leo, it's been too long for familiarity. It's been too long for us to address each other by our first names. So please address me as Doctor Bee." Brooke said, still maintaining her straight face.
Nathan raised his hands in surrender. "Okay. Okay, I am sorry, Doctor Bee. So you are now finally a doctor." He added.
"I think it's pretty obvious." Brooke stated. Her attention went to the wall clock near them. Time was going and she had to call Liam to say goodnight to him. She knows he has been waiting for her call.
She began to walk again. "Mr Leo, I am sorry I have to go now. I need to attend something now." She rushed away without letting Nathan say another word.
Brooke got into the elevator and went to her office floor. She rushed to her office and dug into her bag from her mobile.
"Oh Liam. I am so sorry." Brooke said while tapping on her phone. She already had two missed calls from the nanny's phone, who is taking care of Liam. She immediately called back.
"Gladis. Yes I know. I have been busy since I arrived. Has he slept?" Brooke spoke into the phone. "Ok, give the phone to him. Thank you, Gladis."
After a few seconds, Liam's sleepy voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Hello, mommy, I was waiting for your call to say goodnight."
"I know, baby. I am so sorry. I was busy. There was an emergency at the hospital." Brooke spoke.
Nathan on the other hand tried following Brooke. He didn't know the floor she went to. But he kept asking until he finally found the office.
He could hear Brooke's voice speaking because her office door was open. However, she had her back to the door and didn't know he was at the door.
"Ok, Liam. I will call you in the morning. Goodnight for now. I love you, sweetie." Brooke said on the phone before ending the call.
Nathan, on the other hand, heard that part of her conversation. 'Liam? Who is he? A boyfriend, fiance or husband?' he thought disappointed. His heart hurt at that moment.
Brooke turned and was shocked to see Nathan at the entrance of her office. "Mr Leo, you are here. Why did you follow me all the way?" She asked.
Nathan heard her question. But at the moment, he was more interested in what he heard earlier. "Bee, can we please talk? I mean Doctor Bee. I would like to speak with you. Can we please talk, for the sake of old times?" He asked.
Brooke was quiet for a moment. She looked at Nathan questionably. Wondering what more they could talk about now.
"Please." Nathan added.
Brooke sighed. "Fine. Just for a few minutes. I have to get to work." She said, pointing to a chair in her office for Nathan to sit on.
"Thank you." Nathan said and he sat down. At that moment, he just wanted to jump to the question of who Liam is. But then he thought. That she might be pissed off for eavesdropping and mingling in her private matters. So he decided to start a lighter conversation.
