Chapter 49 49
Liam was happy to see his mother come home before he went to bed. It was hardly the case because most of the time, she gets home late. Liam would already be asleep then. This happens because most of the emergency cases she needs to attend come in the evening or at night. Which makes her come home quite late.
"Mommy. Mommy. You are home!" Liam called out with excitement as he ran to his mother. "Grandma, mommy is home."
Brooke chuckled and went down on her knees to match the height of her eight year old son. She stretched her hands out and the boy ran into her embrace.
"My darling boy. I miss you so much." She said as she picked him up and spun him around. "I love you. I love you. I love you so so much." She said, kissing him all over the face.
Liam giggles at the feeling. "I love you too, mommy." He managed to say.
"I have a surprise for you." She announced after putting him down on his feet.
"What is it -" Liam asked impatiently. He was cut off mid sentence when his mother stepped to the side so that Liam could have a full view of the door.
Ryan walked in with a gift bag in his hand. "Hey!" He said, raising his hands up.
He gasped. "Uncle Ryan!" He ran to the man.
"Hey Champ. It's good to see you." Ryan said, making a mess of Liam's hair. "How have you been?"
"Good. I am so happy to see you." Liam said. He couldn't hide his excitement.
"I have something for you." Ryan said, handing him the gift bag he came with.
Liam accepted it and eagerly opened it. It had a camera in it. A new modern that Liam wanted. They spoke about it with Ryan but he never thought he would own one so soon.
"A Polaroid camera!" Liam exclaimed. He got up and engulfed Ryan in another hug. "Thank you. Thank you, Uncle Ryan. You are the best uncle in the whole world."
"You are welcome, Champ. I am flattered even though I am your only uncle." Ryan teased.
The rest of the people present in the living laughed at the two.
Later on, Turner's family were preparing for dinner. Doctor Turner also returned home from a long day meeting.
"Bee, I heard you had a back-to-back today. Congratulations on both successful operations. I am so proud of you." Jack proudly said to his daughter. "Not just me, but the board was pleased with your performances. Today's perfect topped it all."
"Thank you, dad. What can I say, I learnt from the best." Brooke said with a smile.
Doctor Turner smiled back. He might have helped but it wasn't all his doing. Doctor Patel also helped his daughter to get to where she is now.
"I will recommend you to take my place when I am retiring next year." Doctor Turner suggested.
Brooke was posing for Liam as he took her picture. But she turned to her father at his suggestion. "I don't think I am ready to be a medical director just yet, dad. Besides, I just got promoted to chief surgeon. I think doctor Patel would be more suitable for that position now." She gave her own suggestion.
Jack thought for a while before responding. "Perhaps you are right. He is worth considering."
Ryan walked back into the house from answering a call. "Good evening, Doctor Turner." He greeted him.
"Ryan. Good evening. When did you get into town?" Jack asked.
"I flew in just a few hours ago." Ryan answered.
"You are welcome then. Hope you are staying for dinner." Jack asked.
"Of course. It's been a long time since I ate your wife's cooking. I miss her cooking so much. That is the reason why I flew here today to dine with your family." Ryan teased. "I think I am falling in love with Mrs Turner." He put a hand on his chest to make the scene more dramatic.
Jack shook his head. "Sadly for you, my wife has not been cooking since Liam was born because she has been busy with the care of the child. The cook has been the one cooking and that is the person you feel in love with. So go confess your love to Isabella."
Brooke wound up laughing at Ryan. It was clear that he wasn't expecting the tables to turn in that direction.
"Alright. You got me there." Ryan said, making funny faces. He wanted to see the reaction of Doctor Turner for showing interest in his wife but he ended up getting burned.
Meanwhile, the adults conversed amongst themselves. While Liam was busy assembling the photos he took. A picture of his mother was set next to the picture of his Grandma. He then set his own picture by the side and then a picture of his grandfather.
He studied the pictures carefully, doing some mental calculations for himself. He brought his mother's picture next to his Grandma's and studied them further.
After some time, Liam then turned to his mother and said, "Mommy, I have a question."
"What is it, sweetie?" Brooke questioned. She noticed how the boy had focused so much on what he was doing. She believed he was just admiring the work of his new camera. But she was wrong.
"You look so much like grandma. You have the same color of eyes and the same color of hair." He said analyzing the photos. With a pout, he asked further. "But, who do I look like?"
Brooke was taken aback by her son's question. She knew it would eventually come but she didn't expect the question to come this early. The boy is just seven years old. She wondered how he was able to do such a study within minutes and came up with the question.
One thing was for sure. She knows exactly who Lima looks like. The turquoise eyes and the black hair. The thin lips, pointed nose and the heart shaped face. Even the little bit darker shade of skin tone, unlike hers. Brooke has fair skin.
She knew without a doubt her son is a repli
ca of her past life partner. Liam looked exactly like his father, Nathan.
