Chapter 36 36
Brooke and Ryan were about to leave the school premises. When she noticed different groups of girls looking at them and talking amongst themselves. She could easily detect jealousy in the eyes of some of them.
She wouldn't blame them. With his height and body build, he is irresistible. Also, almost a perfect face. He also knows how to dress well.
"Ryan, I think you should really stop doing this. You are giving all the potential girlfriends that you could have, the wrong idea about us." Brooke spoke after settling into Ryan's car.
Ryan chuckled at her comment.
"First of all, they are not my type. Secondly, they are not at all wrong, you know." He said.
Brooke only shook her head at his words. She didn't want to encourage the topic further. Ryan is Nathan's friend, even though she also knew him for a long time. But there was not a chance that anything could happen between them. She doesn't feel like that part of her will ever open up to another man again.
Some minutes passed into the silent ride when Brooke began to feel really weird. She ignored the feeling. But soon, she began taking long breaths in and out. It didn't help much as the feeling she was having became stronger.
"Ryan, stop- stop. Park the car now." Brooke said in one breath as her hand went to cover her mouth.
Ryan did as he was asked, even though he was confused as to why.
Before the car could reach a complete stop, Brooke reached for the door and ran out of the car. She went to the side of the road and began to empty the content of her stomach.
Ryan turned off the engine and rushed to her. He soothed her back.
"Bee, are you alright?" He asked in a worried tone.
Brooke shook her head. She let him know it was the breakfast she had that morning. It has been a while since she had breakfast like that. That must be the reason it upset her stomach.
They went to a nearby coffee shop so that Brooke could clean up. After that, she told Ryan she wanted to leave as the smell of coffee was making her want to throw up again.
Ryan gave her a weird look. There were some changes he noticed in Brooke but he kept it all to himself. But with what happened now, he needed to bring it all to light.
They were walking back to the car when Ryan spoke up. "Bee, are you sure you..... Are not ...... Pregnant?" He asked with hesitation in his voice.
Brooke paused and turned to him with wide eyes. She did a mental calculation before speaking.
"Get me to a pharmacy, now. Please." She said and rushed to the car.
Ryan followed behind.
Five minutes later, they found a pharmacy and he stopped.
"I will be right back, I need to buy something." Brooke said and stepped out of the car. She rushed into the pharmacy building.
Thirty minutes later, the two were sitting in silence in the car with their faces ghost white.
"Damn it. Damn it." Ryan said repeatedly, heating the steer wheel of his car.
His action brought Brooke out of her zone and tears began to roll down her eyes.
Brooke took a pregnancy test and it came out positive. She had taken three just so to be clear and all the three gave the same result. She used different products just in case one of them is not of good quality and accuracy.
Ryan got out of the car and continued to cause and hit the car or his leg on the ground. He began to get strange looks from the people passing by. After another five minutes of the same thing, he walked back to the car and sat in it. He turned to Brooke, whose face is still wet from crying and her eyes are already red and buffed.
"I am sorry for reacting this way, Bee." Ryan began to speak. "It's- it's just that, this is not what I wanted for you or imagined for you. It is the last thing I would ever think of for you at this moment."
Brooke gave him a confused look. It was odd of Ryan to show too much concern with the situation she is in. Sure, they have known each other for long but they are not that close with one another.
They fell silent for another ten minutes before Brooke finally spoke. She was no longer crying but her voice came out shaky.
"Wh- what am I supposed to do now?" She asked.
Ryan sucked in a breath. "I will say you should do what is right for everyone, especially yourself. You have my support in whatever you need me to do."
"Speaking from experience, it is very troubling growing up and feeling like you are not loved. My mother left me and my father when I was very young. I always felt that was unfair to me." Ryan added.
"Do the right thing, Bee. It is not too late yet." He encouraged her.
Brooke understood what Ryan was trying to say. But at that moment, she can't think straight. She needed a moment to think through it all. But right now, there is one thing she was sure of.
"Ryan, please and please don't tell Nathan. Promise me you won't tell him." Brooke spoke. The water works were back again.
Ryan shook his head. "I promise, I won't." He assured her.
Brooke doesn't want to complicate things further with Nathan. She remembered after they were intimate the last time, he asked if she was on medication and she said she was.
It is clear Nathan wanted to make sure there were no mistakes and he doesn't want any attachments from her. So it is best if he doesn't know about the pregnancy.
The rest of their ride was in absolute silence. Each of them had a different thing going on in their minds. However, it is clearly about the pregnancy.
