Chapter 466: Searching for Magnus's Whereabouts
"Dad, I have a friend who's sick, and I was wondering if Sophia could help take a look. What do you think?"
Lachlan's expression was calm and gentle, his eyes earnest. Just looking at his appearance, you couldn't tell at all that he was an ungrateful person.
Although his looks weren't particularly outstanding, his face was very deceptive.
If he hadn't already known Lachlan's true identity and the things he'd done, Alaric felt he probably would have been fooled too.
But now...
Alaric only felt angry!
He didn't know what Lachlan was plotting, but it definitely wasn't anything good.
Otherwise, why would Lachlan go through all this trouble? What was he trying to gain?
Even now, Alaric couldn't figure out why Lachlan would deliberately target the White family.
If he weren't afraid of exposing the fact that they already knew the truth, he really wanted to go up and beat Lachlan up.
Preston smiled slightly and asked curiously, "About treating your friend, you can ask Sophia. Also, where is your friend now?"
Lachlan: "In Celestria. I originally wanted to bring him back home, but he's too badly injured to be moved."
His expression was earnest and serious, showing no signs of lying.
Even Preston had to admire him.
Preston sighed inwardly and pretended to be troubled: "Sophia hasn't been feeling well lately either, so she's not really up for traveling."
He paused, then added, "I can't make this decision. You should ask Benjamin and Sophia."
Lachlan's expression darkened, then he forced an awkward smile.
"I was afraid Benjamin wouldn't want Sophia to go to Celestria, which is why I came to ask you specifically."
Alaric immediately felt alarmed, wondering what he was really up to.
He said, "Lachlan, what's wrong with your friend? Maybe I can treat him, too. My medical skills aren't as good as Sophia's, but they're not bad."
"It's leukemia. This disease is very difficult to treat. I wanted to ask if Sophia has any solutions."
Alaric thought for a moment. "Leukemia... is it early stage or late stage?"
Lachlan: "Mid to late stage. The situation is very serious. We've consulted many doctors, and they all said there's no hope."
Alaric raised his eyebrows and said helplessly, "Lachlan, mid to late-stage leukemia is very hard to cure. This disease must be treated early."
Early-stage leukemia has a chance of being cured, but once it reaches mid to late stage, it becomes very difficult.
Severe cases can lead to multiple organ failure. In short, even if Sophia treated him, the chances would be slim.
Lachlan looked troubled. "I know, but we can't miss any opportunity, right?"
"Lachlan, it's not that we don't want to help you. Multiple organ failure and deterioration are irreversible. But if you don't mind, I can go with you."
Alaric wasn't sure what he was really trying to do, so he could only stall him for now.
Lachlan always had his own agenda when doing things.
He would never ask Sophia to go to Celestria for no reason.
Moreover, most of GeneCipher Society's forces were in Celestria.
Once she went there, Sophia would be walking into a trap.
And she was pregnant now—she absolutely couldn't take that risk.
Even if Sophia agreed, they wouldn't allow it.
Fortunately, Lachlan didn't keep pushing. Seeing their firm attitude, he had no choice but to leave.
Alaric made an appointment with him to go to Celestria together.
Although he didn't know what Lachlan was plotting, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Let's give it a try.
After Lachlan left, Preston's face immediately darkened. "What is he trying to do?"
"I don't know, but he definitely has bad intentions." Alaric's expression was also grim.
He never thought there would come a day when he couldn't see through someone close to him.
Lachlan... was he too cunning, or was he too young to figure it out?
"I'm going to tell Sophia and Benjamin about this right now so they can be on guard."
Alaric snapped back to reality and immediately called Benjamin.
At that moment, Benjamin had already returned to Maple Grove Villas.
When he got home, there was no one in the villa. Before he left this morning, Sophia said she was too tired and wanted to catch up on sleep.
She probably wasn't awake yet.
Benjamin went upstairs and slowly walked to the bed and sat down, kissing Sophia's forehead.
Sophia slowly opened her eyes, her moist eyes full of confusion.
The drowsiness gradually faded from her eyes, and Sophia smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Honey, you're back!"
"Why did you sleep so long? Are you sure you're okay? Should we go to the hospital?"
Benjamin had no experience and didn't know if other people had these symptoms during pregnancy.
But Sophia had been sleeping noticeably longer these past few days.
Her appetite seemed to have gotten worse, too.
She would occasionally gag and couldn't stand foods with strong fishy smells.
Benjamin felt terrible and even regretted getting Sophia pregnant.
It seemed they'd need to be more careful about contraception in the future. She was only two months pregnant now, and as the pregnancy progressed, Sophia would definitely feel even worse.
He only wished he could suffer in her place.
Sophia buried her face deeply in Benjamin's shoulder and nuzzled gently. "I'm fine. These are all normal symptoms in early pregnancy."
"Will it always be like this?" Benjamin gently stroked her soft hair and kissed it tenderly.
Sophia smiled reassuringly. "No, this is just early pregnancy."
Benjamin murmured in response, but his furrowed brow didn't relax.
After a moment of silence, he said slowly, "I've already told Grandpa about Lachlan. His emotions are fairly stable."
"What did Grandpa say? Is Lachlan... really Grandpa's illegitimate son?" Sophia asked curiously.
"No, he's a son Grandpa adopted." Benjamin briefly summarized Preston's adoption of Lachlan.
Hearing this, Sophia's eyes widened in surprise. "I didn't expect such a complicated story behind this. But... Grandpa clearly helped Lachlan, so why would he want to harm the White family?"
Benjamin shook his head. "We don't know yet. Grandpa said that maybe Magnus—my father—might know."
"So what are you planning to do now? Look for Magnus?"
"I don't know." Benjamin slowly lowered his eyes, his gaze dark and inscrutable.
Actually, his feelings toward Magnus were very complicated. A large part of all the tragedies after his birth were indirectly caused by Magnus.
Later, Magnus just up and left.
He really didn't have deep feelings for Magnus. After all, from the time he could remember, he'd never been close to Magnus.
Now, solving the GeneCipher Society matter was urgent. Should he really bring him back?
He was afraid he wouldn't know how to face this stranger of a father.
"Honey, whatever you do, the baby and I will support you."
Sophia saw the conflict in his eyes and squeezed his hand tightly.
Meeting Sophia's worried eyes, Benjamin felt warmth in his heart. "I know."
