Chapter 24 He Must Be Trying to Take Away My Granddaughter-in-law

Chapter 24 He Must Be Trying to Take Away My Granddaughter-in-law

Amelia's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly forced a smile. "Of course I'm happy! Benjamin is my son, after all!"

Sophia noticed Amelia's forced smile and shook her head in frustration.

Even outsiders could see Amelia's true feelings. Just how much did she hate Benjamin?

"I've managed to slow the spread of the toxin to his vital organs. For now, his life isn't in danger," Sophia said, giving Amelia a pointed look. "Sorry to disappoint you, but as long as I'm here, my husband will live a long life!"

"Finn, bring the medicine I asked for. Starting today, he needs medicinal baths, and we'll need to adjust his prescription."

Finn nodded and quickly left the room. It wasn't long before he returned with the medicine and the previous prescription from Elijah.

Sophia frowned as she examined the medicine. She picked up a pen and crossed out some of the herbs, replacing them with others that had similar properties. She also added a few new ones.

Elijah glanced at the revised prescription, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "Excellent! Excellent!" he exclaimed, unable to hide his joy.

Everyone else in the room exchanged puzzled looks, not understanding what was so special about the prescription.

Preston asked curiously, "What's the big deal? Is there something wrong with the prescription?"

Elijah, known for his bad temper, rarely showed such happiness, which piqued Preston's curiosity.

Elijah pointed at the prescription and laughed, "Sophia made some changes to my prescription, and it's brilliant. Why didn't I think of this before?"

The herbs Sophia replaced were too strong for Benjamin's weakened body. While they were effective in detoxification, they would have caused irreversible damage.

Sophia chose herbs with similar properties but milder effects. However, these herbs were rare and difficult to gather quickly, which was why Elijah hadn't considered them before.

Elijah patted his chest confidently. "Sophia's medical skills surpass mine! No wonder she's Robert's apprentice. She's truly gifted!"

Hearing this, Preston felt a surge of pride. "That's right! She's my granddaughter-in-law, after all!"

Elijah couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. Why didn't he have such a talented granddaughter-in-law?

His own grandchildren were always wasting money and playing around, never helping him out.

Elijah huffed inwardly, hoping for the day Sophia and Benjamin might divorce. If that happened, he'd have his grandson marry Sophia!

Unaware of Elijah's thoughts, Benjamin lay unconscious, feeling a sudden chill down his spine.

Sophia managed a smile, though she still looked pale. "Robert never talks about his past with me. I didn't know he knew you."

Treating Benjamin had drained her, and now Elijah's barrage of questions made her feel dizzy.

But Elijah, caught up in the excitement of their medical discussion, didn't notice Sophia's condition.

Alaric, standing nearby, saw Sophia's pale face and quickly stepped in. "Dr. Martinez, Sophia just finished a treatment and must be exhausted. Let her rest for a bit."

"Benjamin and Sophia will be staying here for a while. You're welcome to visit anytime."

Elijah paused, noticing Sophia's weak state, and said hurriedly, "I got too excited. Sophia, you should rest. I'll see you tomorrow."

With that, Elijah grabbed his medical bag and left in a hurry.

As a renowned medical expert, Elijah had countless patients waiting for him daily.

When he heard about Benjamin's condition, he dropped everything to come over.

Now that Benjamin was stable and Sophia was there, Elijah felt relieved.

He gently bid Sophia goodbye and left.

After Elijah left, Preston whispered to Alaric, "I think Elijah has ulterior motives. He might be trying to steal my granddaughter-in-law. Don't let him come over too often."

Alaric sighed, "Grandpa, weren't you the one who called Dr. Martinez here?"

Preston stammered, "I was just worried Sophia might not handle it alone!"

He averted his gaze, clearly feeling guilty.

Alaric chuckled internally and said with a hint of exasperation, "Now that you've seen how capable Sophia is, are you still worried?"

"No more worries! Sophia is amazing! We're lucky to have her in the White family!"

Preston's face beamed with pride. He had always known Sophia was Robert's apprentice, but there had been a lingering worry.

Now, after witnessing her skills, all his doubts vanished.

Clearing his throat, Preston said warmly to Sophia, "Sophia, you must be exhausted. Thank you for all your hard work today."

Sophia waved it off, flashing a bright smile. "It's nothing, Grandpa. It's what I should do."

Benjamin was her husband, and she wasn't about to lose him right after getting married!

Preston's eyes shone with satisfaction as he looked at Sophia. He nodded and left the room with Alaric.

Once the door closed, Sophia let out a sigh of relief.

She flopped back onto the soft bed, her eyes drifting to Benjamin's handsome face.

Even in his weakened state, with his pale lips and fragile appearance, he looked incredibly good-looking, just the way she liked.

In the quiet room, the only sounds were their breathing. Sophia couldn't take her eyes off Benjamin, her gaze intense and unblinking.

As sleep began to take over, Sophia yawned and slowly closed her eyes.

Just before falling asleep, she felt a sudden chill that made her curl up.

In her drowsiness, she sensed a source of warmth and instinctively moved towards it, bumping into a firm wall of flesh.

Resting her forehead against the "wall," she whimpered softly, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
